Early that morning, Ryan Carter woke from his sleep, slipped into a pair of slippers, and headed to the bathroom.
After relieving himself and washing up, he changed into fresh clothes, put on his running shoes, and went downstairs.
At the steamed bun shop near the entrance of his apartment complex, he bought three baskets of soup dumplings.
Then he stopped by the breakfast shop next door and picked up three fried dough sticks, three bowls of tofu pudding, three savory scallion pancakes, and three egg-stuffed pancakes.
With everything packed into plastic bags, Ryan returned home carrying enough food for three people.
He walked to his bedroom door and closed it.
Taking a deep breath, he opened the door once more.
The scenery beyond it had completely changed.
Instead of the familiar sight of his bedroom, a traditional Japanese-style living room greeted him.
The floor was covered with tatami mats, and in the center stood a low wooden table littered with seven or eight empty sake bottles.
Beside the table lay a woman sleeping soundly.
The air was thick with the pungent smell of alcohol.
Ryan had long since grown accustomed to the sight.
He stepped through the doorway into the living room, placed the breakfast on the table, and lightly nudged the sleeping woman with his foot.
“Wake up.
Come on, wake up.” A moment later, the woman slowly opened her eyes and looked at him groggily.
“Oh, it’s you…
Is it morning already?” She yawned lazily, sat up beside the table, sniffed the air, and smiled.
“So, what did you bring today?” “Soup dumplings, fried dough sticks, tofu pudding, savory pancakes, and egg-stuffed pancakes.
Three servings of everything.” Ryan swept the empty bottles aside, unpacked the food, and arranged it neatly on the table before casually asking, “Where’s Shizune?” The woman picked up a soup dumpling with her chopsticks, popped it into her mouth, and answered while chewing, “She went out with some friends last night.
She never came back, so she probably drank a little too much.” Ryan clicked his tongue.
“Looks like I bought too much breakfast.” “What’s there to worry about?
I’m still here.
Don’t underestimate Tsunade’s appetite.” As she spoke, she had already finished most of one basket of dumplings and immediately reached for one of the egg-stuffed pancakes.
The sloppily dressed, alcohol-soaked woman sitting across from Ryan was none other than Tsunade, the Fifth Hokage of the Naruto world.
As for why Ryan had ended up in this world—and why he was buying breakfast for Tsunade—that story began a month earlier.
One month ago…
Like every other morning, Ryan got out of bed and headed straight for the bathroom.
But when he opened the bathroom door, he didn’t find the small tiled room he expected.
Instead, he found himself staring into a traditional Japanese bedroom.
Standing inside was a blonde, well-endowed woman changing her clothes.
The instant their eyes met, Ryan hadn’t even processed what was happening before the woman appeared in front of him as if she had teleported.
Her slender right hand seized his head with overwhelming strength as she asked coldly, “Who are you?” She spoke Japanese.
Strangely enough, Ryan understood every word.
His mind went blank.
He had already recognized who the woman was.
That face was simply too familiar—especially the diamond-shaped mark on her forehead.
Even though she had gone from a two-dimensional anime character to a living, breathing person, he recognized her immediately.
Tsunade.
The Fifth Hokage.
Granddaughter of the God of Shinobi, Hashirama Senju.
The world’s greatest medical ninja.
Ryan had no idea why an anime character was standing right in front of him, but his survival instincts kicked in immediately.
“I’m not a bad guy!
Please don’t kill me!” He knew exactly how terrifying Tsunade’s monstrous strength was.
If she truly wanted him dead, all she had to do was apply the slightest bit of force, and she could twist his head clean off.
His life was hanging by a thread.
His legs had gone weak, and he swore it was the closest he had ever come to death.
Fortunately, Tsunade didn’t kill him.
She spared his life.
Later, she explained why.
There were several reasons.
First, she suffered from hemophobia and couldn’t stand the sight of blood.
Second, Ryan had no chakra whatsoever.
He was just an ordinary civilian, so she didn’t consider him an assassin or an enemy.
Third, although Ryan hadn’t spoken the language of her world, she had somehow understood him perfectly.
Fourth—and most importantly—the door to her bedroom should have opened onto a hallway.
Instead, it had connected to a completely unfamiliar living room.
Her curiosity outweighed her suspicion.
That curiosity saved Ryan’s life.
Much later, Tsunade admitted it had been the wisest decision she had ever made.
After clearing up the misunderstanding, the two gradually became acquainted.
During their conversations, Ryan discovered that he possessed an incredibly unusual ability.
He could use any door to connect two different worlds.
That was why he had encountered Tsunade in the first place.
In his rush to use the bathroom that morning, he had accidentally awakened this mysterious power and connected his world to the Naruto universe.
He had no idea where the ability came from.
It had simply appeared one day.
Ryan didn’t hide this ability from Tsunade.
For one thing, she had witnessed everything firsthand, so keeping it secret was impossible.
More importantly, he believed telling her the truth would benefit him far more than lying.
Once they had become friends, Ryan enthusiastically invited Tsunade into his world and showed her the Naruto manga.
She spent an entire day reading the series from beginning to end.
When she finished…
She was completely stunned.
“So…
Master Hiruzen was actually killed by Orochimaru?” “I really became the Fifth Hokage after Naruto helped me overcome my fear of blood?” “Sasuke actually defected from the village?” “The Fourth Hokage was killed by his own student, Obito Uchiha?
And Obito even joined forces with Itachi to wipe out the Uchiha Clan?” “My granduncle was right…
The Uchiha really are a cursed clan.
They’re all insane.” But those revelations were only the beginning.
When she reached Jiraiya’s death…
Pain’s destruction of Konoha…
The Fourth Great Ninja War…
Madara Uchiha’s resurrection…
She could barely speak.
Then came Black Zetsu’s betrayal.
Kaguya Otsutsuki’s appearance.
The Sage of Six Paths.
Naruto and Sasuke sealing Kaguya away.
At that point, Tsunade was completely overwhelmed.
She had always been confident in her own strength.
After all, she was one of the Legendary Sannin and one of the greatest figures in the ninja world.
She had every reason to be proud.
But what on earth was all this god-like warfare near the end?
Was this really the same ninja world she knew?
As the Fifth Hokage, she felt like she had become little more than an insignificant bystander.
Didn’t she deserve at least a little dignity?
Fine.
She could accept being weaker than her grandfather Hashirama Senju, Madara Uchiha, Kaguya, the Sage of Six Paths, or even Ten-Tails Jinchūriki Obito Uchiha.
Naruto was the Child of Prophecy.
Sasuke was Indra’s reincarnation.
Losing to them was understandable.
But then there was Might Guy.
A taijutsu specialist who couldn’t even perform ninjutsu had actually pushed Madara to the brink with the Eight Gates.
Even if it had only been temporary…
Night Guy was absurdly powerful.
There was a reason even Madara acknowledged him as the strongest taijutsu user.
By then, Tsunade had completely lost her composure.
Even now, Ryan couldn’t forget the constantly changing expressions on her face.
They had been priceless.
Just when Tsunade thought the future of her world, while chaotic, would at least end on a hopeful note…
Ryan placed Boruto in front of her.
This time…
She was utterly speechless.
Jigen.
Koji Kashin.
Isshiki Otsutsuki.
Momoshiki Otsutsuki.
Karma.
Kara.
Shinjutsu.
And beyond all of them…
The transcendent Otsutsuki God.
Shibai Otsutsuki.
Only then did Tsunade realize she had never truly understood the ninja world.
Everything she knew had been nothing more than the tip of the iceberg.
Now she understood.
And the realization left her numb.
Is the ninja world really this plagued by disasters?
What was she supposed to do?
Ignore it all?
She wasn’t that cold-hearted.
But if she chose to fight…
Did she even possess the strength to make a difference?
Compared to the monsters of the later era, what separated the Fifth Hokage from a mere nobody?
Seeing her lost in thought, Ryan introduced her to even more manga.
One Piece.
Bleach.
Doraemon.
And finally…
Dragon Ball.
That series shocked her more than anything else.
A power level of only 200 was enough to destroy the Moon.
A power level of 10,000 could obliterate the Earth.
Frieza, with a base power level of 530,000, ruled the universe as its emperor.
Compared to beings like that…
What did the Otsutsuki Clan even amount to?
Frieza’s final form possessed a staggering power level of 120 million, yet Super Saiyan Goku still defeated him.
Then there were Super Saiyan 2, 3, and even divine transformations.
Beyond them existed Angels…
Gods of Destruction…
And above every universe stood Zeno, capable of erasing entire universes with a mere gesture.
Compared to those beings…
Even the so-called Otsutsuki God seemed insignificant.
The Dragon Ball universe also contained magic and miraculous artifacts like the Dragon Balls themselves.
Even if an entire planet exploded, it could simply be restored.
After Tsunade finished reading Dragon Ball, Ryan pointed at himself with a grin.
“You already know what my ability can do.” “If I can connect to the Naruto world…” “Then I can connect to countless other worlds as well.” “So…” “How about joining me?” “Let’s travel across different worlds and find a way to save the ninja world—and finally bring it lasting peace.” What choice did Tsunade have?
She agreed.
After all…
Ryan truly possessed the power to travel between worlds.
