For some reason, the others all left in a hurry when the gathering broke up.
Clementine even noticed Kitsune Saiguu secretly signaling the others, which left her feeling a bit bewildered.
Now, only she and Makoto were left in the courtyard.
The moonlight poured down all around, instantly making the entire view quiet and serene.
Makoto stood up, reached out a hand toward her, and said: “Let’s head back to rest as well.
You don’t know the way, so just follow me.” Clementine used the strength of Makoto’s pull to stand up.
Guided by Makoto, the two walked toward the dwellings, now walking side-by-side.
They weren’t walking very fast.
Strolling under the moonlight created a natural, harmonious atmosphere, making one feel that they shouldn’t make too much noise and disturb such pleasantness.
Makoto spoke in a low voice, adding a bit of clarification to the vague invitation Kitsune Saiguu had made earlier.
“The gathering Saiguu mentioned is just the yokai getting together to have fun; it’s nothing too formal.
The activities are just organizing some games, telling stories, and the like.
Would you be interested in that?” “If you don’t think it sounds interesting, you don’t have to agree.
Don’t listen to the nonsense Saiguu was spouting.” Clementine tilted her head, seemingly imagining it, and replied.
“I wouldn’t say I’m interested or uninterested.
I’ve never participated in those things you mentioned, so I don’t know what they’re like.
It doesn’t matter if I go take a look.” “As for Kitsune Saiguu…
what else did she say?
I forgot.” Makoto could only smile helplessly and said: “Are you sleepy?
This way, we’re almost there.” “Oh, okay.” Clementine seemed to be lagging a bit at this moment; she didn’t even stubbornly retort to what Makoto said, but just nodded half a beat late.
After walking a few more steps, the two turned into another courtyard.
This courtyard was significantly smaller than the place where they had gathered earlier, looking more like a private residence.
Clementine seemed to have finally gotten her brain working properly, picking up on the previous conversation.
“Oh, I remember now.
She wasn’t wrong, right?
If I were to go wander around with you, I would be willing.
So don’t always assume that I’ll find it troublesome.
Being very caring is a genuine virtue, but there’s no need to overthink it.” “You really are something.
Alright, I understand.” “I wasn’t always thinking you’d find it troublesome.
For example, I just forgot to tell you that there don’t seem to be any extra prepared rooms here.
Even if it is troublesome, there’s nothing to be done about it; you’ll just have to bear with staying with me tonight.” She said this with a straight face, but when Clementine looked back, she always felt she saw a hint of having succeeded in her eyes.
But it didn’t really matter; she was a dragon who was easy to take care of.
Clementine agreed quite readily, but Makoto vaguely felt that as she stepped over the threshold into the room, the hem of his clothes was lightly flicked by something.
Looking down, she saw a dragon tail that had already quickly moved to the other side, pretending nothing had happened.
It was a bit funny.
Was she sulking and wanting her to guess?
Makoto couldn’t help but think this.
Holding the attitude of joking around and wanting to tease her, she simply spoke this thought aloud.
“If you’re unhappy, just tell me.
Why hit me with your tail?” Clementine was suspiciously silent for a moment, then responded: “The tail hit you, so why are you coming to me?
Ask it if it has any objections.” Makoto couldn’t help but laugh out loud this time: “You just said you weren’t a cat, and now your tail isn’t part of you either?
If I ask it, will it answer?” While speaking, Makoto had already sat down on the edge of the bed, incidentally patting the side to signal for Clementine to come over as well.
Clementine followed his lead and moved over to take a seat.
“If you ask it, it probably won’t be able to answer you; I haven’t evolved that function yet for the time being.
But petting it is no problem.
I’ve agreed on its behalf; do you want to try?” Seeing that Makoto seemed surprised by this suggestion, Clementine added another sentence.
“Because you seemed to be looking at my tail all day today?
I thought you were interested; if not, then never mind.” Makoto quickly replied: “I’m not uninterested.
Can I really touch it?” Following this question, the dragon tail had already consciously moved itself over, placing itself in a position closer to Makoto, its tip curling into a small circle and shortening its length.
It was clearly answering on Clementine’s behalf very actively.
Clementine propped up her chin with one hand and let out an “Mm.” “Of course you can.
You’re special, after all.” “You said that when we first met, right?
We weren’t even familiar with each other back then.” When Makoto said this, she was probably still thinking about how easily this dragon could be deceived, but Clementine didn’t feel there was any problem at all.
“Because you are you, that’s why you are special.
Whether we are close or not, you are still you, and so you will always be the special one.” As she said this, the tip of her tail swayed twice.
She was likely in a genuinely good mood, having quickly talked herself out of her sulking.
“Mm, I understand.” Makoto turned this logic over in his mind twice, only feeling that she was very skilled at casually saying things that made people misunderstand.
But it didn’t matter; he could completely treat things that might or might not be misunderstandings as facts.
It might not seem tempting right now but who knows what the future holds?
“And If you’re enjoying it, drop a Power Stone for me!”
