## Chapter 12: Fragility Of A Promise.

In that moment, Lin Sheng pulled Habiba into his arms.

His embrace was warm, so incredibly tight, and Habiba didn’t even realize she was crying until he pulled back just a little to wipe the tears from her cheeks.

She stared at him, bewildered, wondering why she was crying, why weeping.

Then, the realization hit her:

When Habiba cared, she cared with every fiber of her soul.

She felt so much pain—because she wanted to help him.

He had done so much for her.

He cared for her and loved her in a way she had never experienced from any man in her life.

She was furious with herself for her helplessness.

She cared for him so deeply, not in a romantic sense, but as a friend who had been there for her like no one else.

The frustration of not being able to ease his burden was tearing her apart.

As he touched her face, his skin felt feverish, almost burning against hers.

She looked at him, and Saw his face flushed deep red; he was completely overtaken by his emotions.

Then, without a warning, he lost all control.

He pulled her into a kiss—so deep, so passionate, and so intense, it felt as though the world were ending.

She tried to push him away, to create some distance, but he was far too strong.

Suddenly, Zhou Han’s voice shattered the air.

“Sheng, not this again! What are you doing?” Gē!

As in brother.

Zhou Han rashed over and pulled him off, her, Habiba.

Stumbled backwards, breathless, her heart hammering against her ribs.

She gasped, struggling to fill her lungs.

Completely in shock, she managed to pull herself together and collapse onto the sofa.

She could hear Lin Sheng rambling—distraught, broken phrases.

“No… I don’t… please, Biba… Please…” He couldn’t even finish his sentence; the words just cut off.

The Zhou Han shouted at her in Chinese, “Kuail Biba, Come here, quick! Sheng isn’t breathing! He is having trouble!”

Panic set in.

She looked over saw Lin Sheng on the floor.

His face contracted in agony, struggling violently for air.

He gasped “l…Can’t bre…atre…”

It was unbearable to watch.

She was trembling, terrified, and in her desperation.

“Otteoke?” She cried out in Korean.

“Zenme ban?” She pleaded in Chinese.

Han looked Zhou Han looked at her, his eyes wide with fear.

“Biba! give him mouth to mouth, now!”

Habiba didn’t hesitate.

She leaned down, pressing her lips to his, forcing breath into his lungs to help him find his proper rhythm again.

As he finally caught his breath, he seemed to forget himself once more.

He began kissing her again, just as passionately as before.

Because she had just watched him teeter on the edge of loosing his life, she didn’t have the heart to push him away. Get faster updates on g.com.

Habiba was so incredible worried scared—they had just witnessed him nearly leaving them in the blink of an eye.

That’s why Habiba didn’t push him, she let him hold her, let him kiss and caress her, and when Zhou Han moved as if to pull him off, she simply waved her hand as a sign: Leave him be.

She let him do what he was doing; let him hold onto her, until he finally came back to his senses and stopped himself on his own.

When he finally stopped, he looked at her, breathless and shamed.

“Oh, Biba… I’m sorry. I don’t know what to say. I don’t know what explanation I can give you.”

Habiba reached out and pressed her finger firmly against his lips to silence him.

She realized then that she couldn’t fix the mystery of that girl he was struggling with, but being there for him in that moment was enough.

She had done what she could, and for now, he was safe.

She looked at him, her heart still racing from the terror of seeing him struggle.

“Sheng, do you have any condition? You need to tell us. I’m really scared for you!”

“No,” he said, shaking his head.

“I don’t have any medical conditions. I am perfectly fine and healthy. I don’t know why it happened, but I think it will never happen again. Biba, stop worrying, okay? I’m fine.”

“How can I stop worrying about you?” Habiba asked, her voice cracking.

Zhou Han, still shaking, stepped in.

“Man, what just happened? We were about to lose you! This is serious, buddy. How can you tell Biba not to worry? I myself am really terrified!”

Lin Sheng looked at them, his expression softening.

“Okay, okay, guys. I know you care. I promise—I will be okay. I will never let you worry like this, again. Can we continue this tomorrow, please? I will be okay.”

He looked at them, his firm and sincere voice.

“Dui bu qi (I’m sorry) for worrying you guys.”
