## Chapter 17.
The Lions Den
The office of Aura Global was not just a workplace; it was a cathedral of ambition.
It was a vast, open-plan floor where the ceiling seemed to touch the sky, and every surface was made of polished glass, cold steel, or imported marble.
The air was thin, filtered, and smelled faintly of expensive cologne and the sharp, metallic tang of high-stakes business.
Hundreds of employees worked in synchronized harmony, their keyboards clacking in a rhythmic, relentless beat.
It was a place where people lived in fear of their next deadline and worshipped at the altar of quarterly projections.
Chen Kai, acting as the magnetic and charismatic Shi Yan, moved through the aisles with a grace that made heads turn.
As the Manager of the department, he possessed a natural warmth that contrasted with the chilly efficiency of the office.
He clapped his hands, a sharp, crisp sound that cut through the mechanical hum.
“Everyone, eyes up!” Shi Yan announced, his voice booming with authority, yet laced with a friendly ease.
“We have a new addition to the team—this is Qiu Ying, our junior project coordinator.”
Habiba, as Qiu Ying, stepped toward, her posture impeccable.
She had chosen her outfit carefully—not to blend in, but to stand out with professional understatement and elegance.
She felt the eyes of the entire office on her.
A mixture of predatory curiosity and cold professional judgment.
She knew she was being assessed, measured, and weighed against their expectations of a “junior.”
Before Shi Yan could continue, a sudden stillness washed over the room.
The temperature seemed to drop ten degrees.
The rhythmic clicking of the keyboards slowed then stopped.
The door to the glass-walled office in the dead center of the floor—the private sanctuary of the CEO—swung open.
Jiling, played by Lin Sheng, stepped out.
He was a man made of sharp angles and cold stone.
His tailored suit was so crisp it looked like armor, and his movements were deliberate, predatory, and entirely unbothered by the staff that scrambled to look busy as he approached. This chapter was taken from novelping.com without permission.
He didn’t offer a polite welcome; he looked at the staff—as if they were variables in an equation that had to be solved.
His eyes scanned the room, cold as flint, until they locked onto Qiu Ying.
For a heartbeat, the silence was absolute.
She felt the weight of his gaze.
It wasn’t the gaze of a boss to an employee; it was the gaze of a man who remembered the parking lot, who remembered the coffee stain, and who currently cataloging every move.
She would make from now on.
He stared at her, not with a lingering intense focus.
That made the hair on Qiu Ying arms stand up.
He didn’t say a word.
He simply turned his gaze lingering on her for one second, too long, before walking back into his office and shutting the glass door with a soft, final thud.
Qiu Ying stood frozen, murmuring, “What was that? this is impossible, he is the boss?”
“Don’t mind him,” a sharp, voice cut through the air.
Xiaomei as Lian Xiao walked up, her heels clicking like blades against the floor.
She gave Qiu Ying a look that was equal.
Was equal…
“Cut! Cut! Director Call,” Xiao mei-the-look make it more, like a warning, a terrifying look okay?
Okey Cameras set rolling kāi Shi.
She gave Qiu Ying a look, that was equal, scrutiny and warning.
“The ceo isn’t here to make friends. He’s here to make billions. And frankly, he doesn’t have time for someone who looks like they’re still deciding whether they want to do with their life.”
Qiu Ying didn’t blink.
She turned to Lian Xiao, her expression perfectly composed.
“Oh really you think? I look like am still deciding? Haha, listen here, I’m here to work, Lian Xiao. I don’t care whether the CEO has time for me or not is irrelevant to the targets I intend to meet.”
Lian xiao’s eyes narrowed, surprised by the newcomer’s defiance.
“Hello everyone,” Qiu Ying said, shifting her focus to the room, her voice steady and echoing with professional confidence.
“I’m Qiu Ying. I look forward to working with you all.”
“laoban,” she whispered under her breath, glancing toward the glass office.
Looking at Jiling the CEO.
As she settled into her desk, she felt the eyes of Shi Yan on her.
He had been watching the exchange, and for the first time, he seemed truly impressed.
He pulled his chair closer, ignoring the dark, resentful look that Lian Xiao was throwing from across the room.
“Most people who get that look from him spend the rest of the week hiding in the breakroom. You just stood there and stared him down.”
“I don’t believe in fear as management style,” Qiu Ying replied, her fingers flying across the keys of her computer as she began to pull up the project database.
“I believe in data, Shi Yan. And right now, the data tells me that this company is running at 60% of its potential. That’s what we need to fix.”
Shi Yan laughed—a genuine, warm sound.
“I think you and I are going to get along just fine.”
Across the room, lian xiao felt her grip, tighten on her pen until her knuckles turned white.
She had been one to sit at Shi Yan’s right hand.
She had played the perfect colleague, the perfect marketing head, waiting for him to notice.
The woman beneath the suit
And now this “junior” had waltzed in, stained the CEO’s suit, and was already charming the only man she wanted.
She watched them, the poison of jealousy starting to simmer.
She was already calculating.
She would find a way to break them.
She would find a way to make this office feel very small for Qiu Ying.
“Cut! Perfect” Director Call.
Habiba, her hand over xiaomei, “wow!” My villain beauty.”
Xiaomei just laughed politely “Come on, but Habiba, your amazing. It is your first project yet, it’s seems to flow natural… like a first project yet, it seems to flow natural. Like you have already done so many other projects.”
Lin Sheng and Chen Kai, they were talking about their performance, laughing, telling each other how they did great.
Habiba approached them “laoban” teasing and smiling in a sexy way to Lin Sheng, holding his arm.
Chen Kai walked away.
Lin Sheng felt sparks.
When Habiba was playing around calling him laoban, “don’t call me that, we are not shooting,” lin Sheng stated, “I know that, but can I call you that?” Habiba asked.
“No, No please call me Sheng, as you used to.” Lin Sheng snaped.
“Okey Sheng, Whats wrong?” Habiba looked worried, lin Sheng answered”no it’s nothing, but call me Sheng, Okey Biba,” “Okey” Habiba agreed.
They went to their trailers, eating their food, snuks some resting waiting for another shooting.
