Sera, who had given me twenty minutes and struck me as the sort of woman who could probably determine exactly how long I had spent washing every individual strand of hair.

I stared at the wall.

This would be an incredibly stupid reason to be late.Full novel: Glitched Awakening: The Awakening — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

With considerable reluctance, I pulled my hand away.

“Later.”

I froze.

Had I seriously just said that aloud?

I rubbed both hands over my face.

“Damn it.”

Apparently, I had already scheduled a future appointment with my own temporary vagina.

I grabbed the shampoo before I could make the situation any more ridiculous.

Evelyn’s hair proved to be an excellent distraction.

Once completely soaked, it became surprisingly heavy, clinging to my shoulders, back, and breasts while I tried to work shampoo through the sheer amount of it. Every time I thought I had gathered all of it behind me, several wet platinum strands somehow found their way back across my chest.

Washing my old hair had required roughly the same amount of thought as washing my hands, while this felt more like maintaining specialized equipment.

By the time I finally rinsed the shampoo away and worked conditioner through the length of it, I had developed considerably more sympathy for Evelyn’s preference for having Sera around.

A knock sounded from beyond the bathroom.

“My lady?”

I stiffened.

“Yes?”

“You have approximately seven minutes remaining.”

I stared at the door.

“You’re actually timing me?”

Of course she was.

“I’ll be out soon.”

“Very good.”

Her footsteps disappeared.

I looked down at myself.

Seven minutes.

My nipples were still hard, my skin was flushed from the hot water, and there remained a faint warmth between my legs that had absolutely nothing to do with the temperature of the shower.

Apparently, my first proper shower as a woman had answered several questions I hadn’t necessarily needed answered before breakfast.

I turned the water slightly cooler.

“Seven minutes,” I muttered.

This time, I actually finished showering.

I turned off the water and stood there for a few seconds as the last streams ran down my body.

The sudden absence of warmth made the bathroom air feel considerably cooler than it had before. Tiny droplets clung to my skin, and my nipples, which had only just begun settling down after my earlier experimentation, immediately became firm again.

I looked down at them.

“Give me a break.”

Apparently, Evelyn’s body had no intention of doing so.

I stepped out and reached for one of the towels stacked beside the shower. Drying myself should have been simple, but I had already learned not to make assumptions like that.

My hair alone seemed to contain enough water to fill a small bucket, so I gathered the heavy platinum strands over one shoulder and squeezed them gently with the towel, watching water drip onto the floor before working my way down their length.

The rest of me was easier, though not entirely without distractions. Running the towel across my chest produced enough sensation that I quickly learned to pat rather than rub, particularly around my nipples, while drying between my thighs brought back a faint trace of the warmth I had spent the last few minutes trying to ignore.

I stopped.

No.

I finished as efficiently as possible.

Sera had left a robe hanging beside the door, and I slipped into it before leaving the bathroom. The soft fabric wrapped comfortably around me, although gathering my still-damp hair out from beneath the collar took another few seconds.

When I opened the door, Sera looked up from the bench, her eyes moving toward the clock before returning to me.

“Nineteen minutes.”

I smiled.

“One minute to spare.”

“You sound remarkably proud of yourself.”

“I accomplished everything I was supposed to accomplish.”

That was technically true, and Sera didn’t need to know how close I had come to failing because I had become distracted by my own breasts.

Her gaze moved briefly over my damp hair.

“Come here.”

I approached the bench and stopped.

The clothes from earlier had been arranged even more neatly than before, but several new items had joined them while I was showering.

I stared.

“You forgot to mention those.”

Beside the tights lay fresh underwear and a bra.

“I assumed underwear did not require a separate explanation.”

“Yesterday has taught me not to assume anything about women’s clothing.”

A faint smile touched her lips.

“Fair enough.”

The underwear was considerably simpler than the elaborate midnight-blue thong I had spent the night wearing, although the lower half still appeared to contain an offensively small amount of fabric.

I picked it up.

“This is another thong.”

“Yes.”

“Does Evelyn actually own normal underwear?”

“That is normal underwear for you.”

I looked at her.

Sera looked back at me.

There were arguments that simply weren’t worth having.

I removed the robe and immediately became aware of how absurd this situation would have seemed to me two days ago: standing naked in front of a woman I had met only yesterday while she calmly supervised what underwear I was supposed to put on.

Sera, for her part, showed about as much interest in my nudity as a doctor preparing someone for an examination, and considering she had apparently helped care for Evelyn since she was young, I supposed there was very little here she hadn’t seen before.

That realization somehow made it both less and more embarrassing.

I stepped into the underwear and pulled it upward.

Unlike taking off the previous pair, putting this one on required considerably less experimentation. I had already learned how the narrow fabric was supposed to sit, although the sensation of it settling between my cheeks remained something I doubted I would ever consider particularly intuitive.

The bra was another matter.

I picked it up and examined the straps, then the cups, and finally the clasp at the back.

“I know what this is supposed to do.”

“That is encouraging.”

“I’m less certain how I’m supposed to put it on.”

“You could fasten it in front of yourself and rotate it around your body.”

“That sounds manageable.”

“It would be, although that is not how you usually put it on.”

I sighed.

“Of course it isn’t.”

Sera stepped closer and held out her hand.

“Arms.”

I gave her the bra.

She held it open while I slipped my arms through the straps, then guided them onto my shoulders. The cups settled beneath my breasts, and I instinctively adjusted them with my hands.

The difference was immediate.
