Thanks to my guildmates we pulled off the Fior first clear!
I’ll upload a guide video soon ^^
Momul: You ran it on an alt lololol as expected, you’re busted even as a healer.
Appuni: Isn’t that guy 『rainfall』?
└Sahong: Looks just like him, no mistaking it;
└Palteon: That neon pink skin lololol
└Rain: Why would 『rainfall』 be running a dungeon with K.
└Stok: They’ve been running together lately.
└Bibibim: fr? Did Nagi turn into a traitor?
└Stok: nah, K repented.
└PepsiCider: K and “repented”... has there ever been a worse word combo.
└Choez: And yet it has come to pass.
└TwoOhOne: Say it with me, GodNagi.
While we were grinding Hall of All Gods, the video of 『rainfall』, Straight, and me running the dungeon quietly started to blow up.
And the thing people latched onto most wasn’t the Fior clear itself… it was the fact that I was hunting together with 『rainfall』.
Some people had already seen me roaming around with 『rainfall』 before, but once a full dungeon-run video of us went up on the community, the rumor spread everywhere.
There was one upside.
My already-eye-catching character customization got even more famous, so people started recognizing me without even reading my name… and finally, 『rainfall』 escaped that eye-assaulting neon-pink skin.
『rainfall』’s new customization was the very picture of “standard.” Basic black hair and an adventurer outfit. He only ever went for either extremely flashy or absurdly plain, and between the two, the latter was way better to walk around next to.
So he changed his look, and we were levelling smoothly, just running dungeons…
…or we were supposed to be.
“Why isn’t he here?”
Even though it was exactly the time we’d agreed on yesterday, 『rainfall』 still hadn’t logged in. For all his issues, he was at least punctual.
[Hey, you not coming]
[You asleep?]
[You asleep...?]
Not only was he not logging in, he wasn’t even replying….
[If you don’t answer I’m calling]
[Hey]
This bastard really went AFK without a word.
I waited about an hour before my patience finally snapped. I called 『rainfall』 right away.
— Hello.
The deep voice on the other end of the line was definitely not 『rainfall』’s, no matter how I listened.
Startled, I checked my smartphone screen. I had definitely called 『rainfall』’s number. Did someone else pick up?
“Uh, this is Han Yesung’s phone, right?”
— Yeah.
“Uh… I, uh, had plans with Han Yesung.”
— With Yesung?
“Yeah. We were supposed to meet…”
— You were supposed to meet Yesung?
He sounded like he couldn’t believe it. Just what kind of life has this guy been living normally… Well, he spends every day buried in the game. I could kinda see why he’d doubt it.
— Yesung’s sick right now, he’s been hospitalized.
After a short silence, the man finally replied.
He’d been fine just yesterday, and now he’s suddenly sick? I was thrown and blurted out,
“Is it serious?”
— About the same as usual.
“Ah… okay.”
How was I supposed to know what he’s usually like. Thankfully, the man added an explanation.
— It’s nothing severe. A day or two of rest and he’ll be fine.
A day or two…
…And the first thing I did was think about how many levels you could gain in a day or two. I hated myself for that. Someone’s sick, for fuck’s sake.
From the way he obsessively played every day I thought he was perfectly fine… does he have some kind of chronic condition?
— If you’ve got something to tell him, I can pass it along.
“No… it’s fine— ah, just tell him to get well soon.”
— Sure.
When I passed on the polite get-well message, the man gave a low chuckle. And then the call ended.
“…Should I just level up ahead of him.”
The quest wouldn’t open until level 100 anyway, so even when 『rainfall』 came back we’d have to grind more together… but for a no-life gamer, a bit more grind wasn’t exactly a problem.
“Huh?”
Right then, 『rainfall』 logged in. Wondering what was up, I immediately sent him a party invite. Unlike usual, 『rainfall』 didn’t accept the party request. I ended up whispering him.
[Whisper]kk1234: I heard you’re sick?
[Whisper]kk1234: If you’re sick, take a break.
[Whisper]『rainfall』: This is a proxy player.
[Whisper]kk1234: Ah
He had a proxy, too? Well, he’s loaded. Of course he can afford to have someone pilot his account.
[Whisper]『rainfall』: Nagi’s sick so I logged in to run for him.
[Whisper]kk1234: What’s wrong with him?
[Whisper]『rainfall』: He’s always had a weak body, so when he gets stressed he gets sick ^^;
…A weak body? That 『rainfall』?
I couldn’t accept it, and then I could. Whatever his obsessive, vicious personality was like, that soft voice of his sounded closer to sickly than healthy.
[Whisper]『rainfall』: Anyway, take care ^^
『rainfall』’s proxy cleanly ended the conversation. If someone else was levelling his character for him, I could just go do my own hunting.
I turned my eyes toward the guild.
[Guild]kk1234: Who wants to come hunt with me.
[Guild]Rete: lol did 『rainfall』 dump you?
[Guild]kk1234: Don’t phrase it like that, it sounds gross;;
[Guild]Rete: lololololololol
[Guild]Rete: brb
After a bit, Rete sent a party invite.
The party, including Rete, was four people: BlueSky, ScamMage, and HealiveryService.
Aside from ScamMage, it was the usual four of us — in other words, the people with too much free time on their hands.
[Party]kk1234: Oh, I’m tank then.
[Party]ScamMage: Holy Knights are tanks by default...
[Party]BlueSky: true lol
[Party]Rete: Tank’s low-level.
Rete and I were exactly one level apart.
[Party]BlueSky: But why’re you running with us?
[Party]BlueSky: Weren’t you gonna run with 『rainfall』?
[Party]kk1234: He’s sick so his proxy is running him right now.
[Party]HealiveryService: Wow, you actually cut someone slack because they’re sick.
[Party]ScamMage: When I was sick you told me to tough it out with grit…
[Party]BlueSky: If he doesn’t cut you slack he just kills you lol
[Party]ScamMage: I’m gonna kill him next time too...
They die to 『rainfall』 a few times and suddenly I’m the pushover. I was so done that I swapped my tank build out for my PvP build.
[Party]kk1234: Hey, follow me.
[Party]kk1234: Arena gogo.
At the word “Arena,” ScamMage reacted instantly. Enchanter isn’t exactly a PvP powerhouse, but he gets weirdly fired up about it.
[Party]ScamMage: I gotta level up though...
[Party]ScamMage: But you can’t skip a fight.
[Party]HealiveryService: Leave me out of it.
HealiveryService has zero talent for PvP, so they played it safe.
[Party]Rete: Even if you ask we’re not letting you in, glhf.
[Party]HealiveryService: T_T
[Party]HealiveryService: I’m telling the guild master.
[Party]Rete: lol
[Party]Rete: Let’s go quick then back to grinding.
We headed straight for the arena without wasting time. We picked the 2v2 format. BlueSky and I were one team, Rete and ScamMage were the other.
[General]BlueSky: We’ll win one clean and take it, kk.
[General]Rete: You mean lose one clean lolol
Trash talk out of the way, the fight started immediately.
The 2v2 arena is small enough that you can see the enemy right away. Instead, you start with your skills on cooldown so you can’t just open with everything at once.
Enchanter first.
ScamMage’s Enchanter is a healer/buffer. It’s not a particularly strong class in the arena, but if you let it sit there it stacks buffs on itself and its partner, making things worse for us as time goes on. So it was better to kill it first.
Of course, it’s not like they didn’t know that too.
Rete, the Swordmaster, stepped up. Out of all of us, Rete’s basic attacks hit the hardest. Plus, his PvP set was covered in attack speed runes.
Right before Rete’s attack connected with BlueSky, BlueSky used [Backstep] and dodged. I immediately fired the fastest skill that had come off cooldown at Rete.
kk1234 [Charge!]
Rete [Draw Slash!]
Rete dodged my attack by a hair’s breadth and went straight for me with [Draw Slash]. Instead of dodging, I used a skill aimed behind him.
kk1234 [Holy Spear!]
The spear of light hit ScamMage, who’d been moving behind him. ScamMage tried to get out, but he was just barely still inside the hitbox, and in an instant he was skewered and stuck, unable to move.
Rete hit me, but even on a DPS build his hits weren’t exactly lethal against a heavy-armor Holy Knight… and in contrast, before ScamMage could break free he got shredded by BlueSky in that brief window.
ScamMage [Healing Potion]
A red potion bottle floated over ScamMage’s head and his HP filled back up to full. Him recovering HP wasn’t any loss on my end. It just put Healing Potion back on its cooldown.
Rete rushed in to keep us from chaining more attacks together… and after that, it was a complete shitshow.
<‘kk1234’ has defeated ‘Rete’!>
Naturally, the final winner was me.
ScamMage and BlueSky had long since died, and in the end it came down to a 1v1 between me and Rete, which I squeaked out and won.
[General]ScamMage: I thought you’d gone full trash since you keep dying to 『rainfall』, but guess you’re not dead yet...
[General]kk1234: Huh?
[General]Rete: I held back out of pity.
[General]kk1234: Loser.
I ignored the loser’s words and savored my victory.
[General]HealiveryService: So can we go dungeon now...
HealiveryService, who’d been quietly waiting, finally spoke up. But maybe because it had been so long since I’d done PvP, one match didn’t feel like enough.
[Party]kk1234: Got anywhere we can start shit?
[Party]HealiveryService: Weren’t you done with that life?
[Party]Rete: Like he’d ever be done.
[Party]Rete: Cutting his wrists would be faster.
[Party]HealiveryService: T_T
[Party]ScamMage: You need luck on your side for fighting, too...
[Party]ScamMage: Just give up and let’s go...
[Party]Rete: lol let’s go level.
Maybe because the level cap had been raised, nobody seemed in the mood to cause our usual chaos. It was a bit of a shame, but I more or less accepted it and obediently went along with the party decision.
*****
Playing straight through without even eating dinner, my stomach started screaming at me. I should’ve eaten first. It was late enough that a late-night snack felt excessive, but there was no way I was going to sleep like this, so I put a pot of water on and started cooking two packs of ramen.
I’d just gone to add the soup powder when my phone rang.
“What now?”
It was one in the morning. There wasn’t really anyone who would call me at this hour…
“Huh.”
It was a call from 『rainfall』.
