Lin Ye placed both hands on the treasure chest.
Since this chest had been appraised and evaluated by an official institution and confirmed to be a dud, it was almost impossible for it to yield anything related to the supernatural.
Most likely, it would contain nothing but supplies.
That was why even ordinary people could open this type of chest. There was no need to possess the strength of a professional.
Yu Xiuying stopped what she was doing, a smile spreading across her face. Yet the way her breathing gradually quickened still betrayed her nervousness.
Lin Xianlong was no better.
Lin Ye could see his Adam’s apple bobbing repeatedly. He even unconsciously wiped the sweat from his palms.
They had claimed that they would be fine even if they got nothing but trash, and that they didn’t care.
But the fact that even the worst treasure chest could produce a high-level item meant that everyone in this world approached the act of opening a chest with the highest possible expectations.
What if?
What if I’m that lucky person?
Even Lin Ye himself was starting to feel nervous.
Just then, Lin Ye suddenly noticed what seemed to be a band of light around his wrist.
It was dazzlingly multicolored, and a number slowly emerged upon it:
100%.
What did that mean?
Seeing that his parents were still waiting for him to open the chest, Lin Ye didn’t have time to think about it. He gripped the handle on top of the chest and pulled hard.
The next moment, the chest lid swung fully open.
Inside lay a slightly yellowed talisman covered in patterns he couldn’t understand, a bottle of blue potion, and a grayish ball of light.
Just as Lin Ye thought the result of this chest opening was exactly what he had expected, the band of light around his wrist rapidly dimmed.
The number 100% instantly plummeted to 0%.
But Lin Ye was astonished to discover that the gray ball of light in the chest had transformed in the blink of an eye into a dazzling sphere of resplendent, multicolored light!
The sphere floated into the air and swiftly merged into his body.
At the same time, the chaotic patterns on the yellow talisman instantly became ancient and profound, radiating a terrifying aura.
The blue potion showed no particularly obvious change, though faint points of light seemed to flicker within the liquid.
Then several notifications exploded inside Lin Ye’s mind!
[Congratulations! You have opened a treasure chest and obtained the Mythic item: Random Elemental Talisman (Fire) x1 and Novice Mana Potion x1!]
[You have obtained the Mythic talent: Void Incarnation!]
[A Mythic global announcement is about to be triggered. Please choose whether to publish it!]
[If you choose not to publish it, you will not unlock the relevant achievements, appear on the global rankings, or unlock the corresponding ranking rewards!]
[You may also choose to publish it under an anonymous ID. The items will then appear on the global rankings, while the related achievements and ranking rewards will be officially unlocked once you reveal your real name.]
Lin Ye was stunned, but his mind began racing.
He had really obtained a Mythic item!
But what the hell were a Mythic Fire Elemental Talisman and a Mythic Novice Mana Potion supposed to be??
According to his memories, the Fire Elemental Talisman was basically no more than a large windproof lighter. How could something like that be Mythic?
The blue potion made even less sense. It was a mana potion—and a novice mana potion at that. How could it possibly be worthy of Mythic status?
But Lin Ye knew that this was not the time to wonder about such things. He had a choice to make!
In the end, Lin Ye chose to publish the announcement anonymously and casually picked an ID.
Even though everyone in this world was a gambler at heart, Lin Ye had never personally witnessed how terrifying the strongest people at the top were. He had only heard the stories.
Moving mountains and filling seas, flying through the heavens and burrowing into the earth—none of it was beyond them.
He was currently just an ordinary person who hadn’t even reached Level 1. Exposing himself now would be no different from committing suicide.
He understood better than anyone the principle that a man should not be blamed for possessing a treasure, but might still be killed because of it.
The reason he hadn’t chosen to reject the announcement was that he also coveted the ranking rewards and those rare achievements.
Once he became powerful enough in the future, he could simply reveal his real name and claim the rewards!
“It’s all right, Xiaoye. This is pretty good too, haha!”
“I heard some people even open completely empty chests. We’re already lucky enough!” Lin Xianlong saw that his son had fallen silent, assumed he was upset, and hurried over to comfort him.
Yu Xiuying’s eyes reddened as well, though she hid it skillfully. She merely wiped her hands on her apron before turning away.
“Mom will make you something to eat. I bought your favorite chicken wings today, so don’t let this bother you.”
Lin Ye was even more surprised.
They couldn’t hear it?
At that moment, every professional and prospective professional in Sea-Watch City, Jiangnan Province, the entire Great Xia territory, and even across the whole planet heard a notification that left them utterly shaken!
[The anonymous professional “Pangu” from the Great Xia region has opened a treasure chest and obtained one Mythic talisman, one Mythic potion, and one Mythic talent!]
[Let us congratulate him/her/it/them!]
At the same time, on three rankings that could be viewed by professionals around the world, the three things Lin Ye had obtained surged forward like dark horses and rapidly claimed prominent positions!
[Global Talisman Ranking:]
[No. 1, Earth-Splitting Talisman (Mythic), Creator: Li Shouyang, Region: Great Xia]
[No. 2, Heavenly Wheel Talisman (Mythic), Owner: Vikram Sharma, Region: India]
[No. 3, Fire Elemental Talisman (Mythic), Owner: “Pangu,” Region: Great Xia]
[No. 4, Nine Heavens Tribulation Lightning Talisman (Epic), Creator: Lian Moyuan, Region: Great Xia]
Everyone who saw the ranking was thrown into confusion.
Other people had talismans that could split the heavens or summon heavenly wheels and tribulation lightning. So how had such a plain and unremarkable name as Fire Elemental Talisman ended up in the middle of them???
As for the other ranking—the Global Potion Ranking—the Novice Mana Potion Lin Ye had obtained had placed ninth.
It was just as out of place there.
Some people even felt as if their entire worldview had shattered when they saw the word “Novice” in the potion’s name.
And on the most important ranking of all, the Global Talent Ranking, a talent called Void Incarnation had shot directly to ninth place.
Lin Ye, of course, had no idea that opening this chest had ensured that countless people would lose sleep that night.
Nor did he know how many pairs of eyes had turned toward Great Xia, or how many people had begun investigating the anonymous user’s true identity.
He only knew that because his parents were ordinary people, they couldn’t receive the ranking announcements.
That allowed him to breathe a sigh of relief.
Lin Ye drew a deep breath and suppressed the shock in his heart.
He then responded to his father’s words of comfort, saying that he was fine.
This kind of result was what normally happened when opening a chest. They shouldn’t buy any more chests in the future; it was all just a waste of money.
Lin Xianlong looked at Lin Ye, his heart filled with relief.
His child had grown up and finally knew how to consider his parents’ feelings.
…
As night completely descended, the dining table was filled with all kinds of delicious dishes Lin Ye loved.
But most of his attention was focused on the items he had obtained from the chest—
and on the strange changes that had occurred when he opened it.
If he hadn’t been mistaken, the talisman had initially been completely ordinary. The ball of light representing the talent had also been gray at first, only transforming into dazzling multicolored light at the instant he saw it.
What was this supposed to be…
A cheat ability that came with him as a transmigrator?
Hmm... It was just a single loot opening. Maybe I just got lucky and hit that one-in-a-million fluke, and the next time I open a loot box, things will probably go back to normal.
After finishing his meal, Lin Ye made up an excuse and headed straight back to his room.
He pulled out that yellow talisman and started examining it carefully.
[Fire Element Talisman]
[Rank: Mythic]
[Type: Consumable (Talisman)]
[Usage: Unleash the fire element contained within the talisman to conjure flames.]
The description ended there, just that one short line.
It was so brief that Lin Ye even wondered if he had read it wrong.
Because the description perfectly matched what a fire element talisman was supposed to be—this thing was just a giant, disposable lighter.
Yet its rank was somehow marked as Mythic.
Lin Ye then took out the blue potion bottle.
[Novice Mana Potion]
[Rank: Mythic]
[Type: Consumable (Potion)]
[Effect 1: Upon consumption, restores 100% of your maximum mana. Additionally, for 100 seconds after use, the mana cost of all skills you cast is reduced by 99%, and the cooldown time of all skills below Tier 6 is reduced by 99%.]
[Effect 2: Upon consumption, grants you the unique buff: Blessing of Infinity.]
[Blessing of Infinity: The mana cost of all skills you use is permanently reduced by 20%.]
Lin Ye was stunned in his heart.
The description for this potion was completely different from that of the fire element talisman.
From his perspective as someone who had played tons of games in his past life, the effects of this potion were absolutely overpowered!
Especially for classes that relied heavily on mana consumption, chugging this bottle would not only fill their mana bar to the brim, but also turn them into a veritable infinite firepower launcher for 100 whole seconds.
On top of that, this potion even came with a permanent buff that directly cut the mana cost of all his talents by 20%.
If even a novice mana potion could be this absurd, Lin Ye couldn't help but wonder just how broken that Mythic-rank talent would turn out to be.
