In his memories, Fred and George Weasley had always stolen the scene.Full novel: Harry Potter: Legacy of House Gaunt — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

They were Hogwarts’ kings of mischief, and every film had given them some absurd moment that made people laugh.

Unfortunately, Fred died in the end.

One twin remained, and the pair was never whole again.

Edmund had always found that regretful.

It did not, however, stop him from preparing to mess with them now.

After all, they had ruined his night study plan.

Watching the twins hurry past, completely unaware of the danger behind them, Edmund smiled wickedly.

With a flick of his wand, a helmet from a suit of armor on the side of the corridor suddenly dropped to the floor.

Clang!

The sound rang through the empty corridor, echoing off the stone.

The twins, who had just run past, jumped and spun around at once.

All they saw was a helmet lying on the floor.

No one else was there.

Farther away, Mrs.

Norris yowled, and Filch’s footsteps grew louder.

The twins panicked and bolted up a nearby staircase.

Edmund swallowed a laugh and followed behind them, keeping his footsteps silent.

“Ha!

Students out of bed!

I am telling Filch!” A voice rang out near the third-floor landing.

Peeves had found them.

The poltergeist was drifting through the castle as usual, hunting for pranks and chances to create chaos.

When he reached the third floor and heard frantic footsteps, he floated toward the sound.

The Weasley twins appeared right in front of him.

Peeves looked delighted.

He and the twins shared a taste for mischief, but that did not mean he would not torment them.

There could be only one true king of Hogwarts pranks, and in Peeves’s opinion, that was Peeves.

“Hee hee!

Little Weasleys caught by the great Peeves, are you?” Peeves stretched his mouth wide in a grotesque grin.

“Say that the great Peeves is the finest prankster in Hogwarts, and I might think about letting you go.

How does that sound?” The twins exchanged a glance.

Fred smiled brightly at the poltergeist.

“The great Peeves…” “…is the finest prankster in Hogwarts,” George continued.

Then the twins looked at each other again and burst out laughing in perfect unison.

“After us!” They sprinted to the right, leaving Peeves hopping furiously in midair.

Edmund could not hold it in.

He laughed.

The twins were ridiculous.

Even cornered, they still found a way to prank Peeves.

“Who’s there?” Peeves heard the laugh and spun around in alarm.

Then he realized another student was hiding nearby and began searching the corridor.

Edmund still wanted to see what else the twins would do, and he had no desire to be tangled up with Peeves.

He noticed a few pieces of chalk scattered on the floor, likely ammunition Peeves had prepared for some other victim.

Edmund pointed his wand and whispered, “Waddiwasi.” The broken chalk shot up like tiny bullets and pelted Peeves one after another.

Peeves shrieked.

The pieces did not pass through him.

They struck hard enough to hurt, sending him howling down the corridor to the left.

Edmund had deliberately driven him in the opposite direction from the twins.

Then he paused.

The third-floor corridor.

The right-hand side.

Why did that sound so familiar?

His expression shifted.

Dumbledore had warned students at the Start-of-Term Feast not to go there.

That was where the first-year trial was hidden.

If the twins accidentally entered the abandoned classroom, they would find Fluffy, the three-headed dog guarding the trapdoor.

Without knowing Fluffy’s weakness, the situation would be dangerous.

Even a certain Potions professor had been bitten on the leg.

Realizing this, Edmund stopped lingering.

He cast a light-footed charm on himself and hurried down the right-hand corridor.

Sure enough, after a short distance, he saw the twins examining the door to the abandoned classroom.

Fred cast an Unlocking Charm, and the door opened with a click.

The two of them rushed inside excitedly.

Edmund followed at once.

Inside, he saw an enormous three-headed dog lying over a trapdoor.

All three heads drooped as if it were asleep.

A wave of foul odor hit him, and Edmund immediately held his breath.

Good grief.

Did this thing come with its own chemical attack?

The twins were not as quick.

One of them, whether George or Fred, blurted, “Merlin, that stinks!” In the silent room, the words were painfully clear.

The three heads opened their eyes at the same time.

Two heads fixed on the twins in front of them.

The third turned toward the spot where Edmund stood.

Clearly, a Disillusionment Charm did not hide scent.

It only blended the caster into the surrounding environment.

The middle head suddenly roared and lunged at the twins.

Their reaction was not slow.

Both drew their wands at once and fired Impediment Jinxes.

Unfortunately, they were still only third years.

Their magic was not strong enough.

Fluffy merely staggered, then continued attacking as if nothing had happened.

Edmund could not stay hidden any longer.

He appeared and raised his wand.

“Stupefy!” He cast the spell with everything he had.

A burst of red light shot from the tip of his wand and slammed into Fluffy.

Boom!

It was like watching the dog get hit by a lorry.

The massive body flew backward and crashed hard into the classroom wall.

The twins were visibly startled.

They had not expected a third person to be in the room.

Edmund had no time to explain.

Fluffy had absurd resistance to both magic and physical force.

One Stunning Spell would not put it down for long.

‘We need music.

Put it to sleep before the noise brings a professor, or worse, Dumbledore himself.’ Edmund’s mind raced.

“Sing!” he shouted at the twins.

“Sing the song from the Sorting Feast!” They looked confused, but they also understood that Edmund had a reason.

Without hesitation, Fred and George began singing the Hogwarts school song in the funeral-march style they had used at the feast.
