Three days later, May 20th, 1991
As the young boy fluttered his eyes open, memories of the incident gradually came back to mind.
His eyes as he looked at the ring immediately changed, filled with horror, as he immediately pulled it off his finger, too scared to keep wearing it.
Getting up from the hard stone floor, surprisingly feeling pretty good despite the weird position he had slept in, he replaced the ring on the desk as he looked at the piece of paper that was originally kept beneath the ring that had caused him all this insufferable pain.
Taking the ancient letter which seemed to be made of some kind of old parchment, his eyes trailed the words of old English as he did his best to decipher the message.
{Welcome inheritor.
If you see this letter, it means that you have passed two of my three inheritance conditions.
Congratulations.
However, the last and most important condition remains.
Should you succeed, you will inherit the name of StagHart and become the last heir of the Noble and Most Ancient house of StagHart.
The first condition was to be below the age of 17, the age of Hogwarts graduation for most.
The second condition was to breach my runic formation alone and without any external help.
The formation’s difficulty would vary with your age since your magical education would only get better from your eleventh birthday.
Finally, the third and last condition is to wear this ring for longer than six hours.
Wearing this ring will bring upon you an incredibly painful curse that will wear off after six hours.
Should you take off the ring before the six hours are up, you will be automatically kicked out of the cave and it will be locked for you forever from this point onwards.
On the other hand, should you pass the last test, you will be granted my entire life’s research that culminates in a single drop of potion that will enhance you at the end of the six hours.
This drop of potion doesn’t have a name.
Instead, I will tell you its function.
The first is to gain the StagHart bloodline, granting you heirship to the StagHart house.
The second function is to evolve you from a normal human wizard to a high human.
While you won’t see much change in the short term, your lifespan, physical condition and magical potential will greatly improve.
Finally, the third and most important function is to grant you the ability to turn one person every three years into a high human of lower quality than you and those same people can turn a maximum of three people in their lifetime.
There are a total of 10 ranks, with you being excluded at the very top – Rank 0.
It was my greatest achievement in my life, please make the most of it.
As the last heir to the StagHart bloodline, I have taken into consideration the lack of subordinates and allies.
As such, I have incorporated the idea of the vampire’s blood servants into the StagHart bloodline.
The way to transform the others is not overly complicated.
You will find the nameless potion recipe in the book titled: Circe’s potions.
The potion comes in two parts.
The first one, you must consume to condense a golden drop of blood in your body which you then mix in the second potion which your new subordinate will consume to be bound to you.
With this, good luck successor, may fortune smile upon you and may glory shine on the name of StagHart once more.}
Finishing the letter, the young boy turned his attention back to the ring.
He couldn’t tell if he was lucky or not.
He had managed to become the heir of the StagHart house, not that he knew what it was and it was all thanks to falling unconscious after the pain hit him.
Wearing the ring once more, he confirmed that the pain didn’t come back and he shook his shoulders, happy with the situation as he stored the letter in the desk and turned his attention to the bed.
Sitting on it, testing the mattress, a feeling he hadn’t felt in years, the corners of his lips turned upwards, the simple feeling of sleeping on something not extremely hard was something else.
Spending a little time on the mattress, remembering some of his past memories in the orphanage, before he awakened his magic, he finally turned his attention to the few books on the bookshelf.
There were, unfortunately, only seven of them.
Yet, each of them were large enough that he could busy himself for a couple of months easily simply learning and mastering the knowledge hidden in the books.
Walking to the bookshelf that seemed empty considering the room for a large number of books, he looked at the seven titles.
– The Mind Arts
– All of Futhark
– Egyptian Runes
– Celtic & Nordic Runes
– StagHart’s rituals
– Hidden in Herbology
– Circe’s potions
“Hum, let’s pause the Futhark for the moment and look into the mind arts, it seems interesting.” He muttered under his breath, his eyes almost shining at the sight of the very obvious large books.
Opening the huge grimoire, he looked at the familiar handwriting and after comparing it to the letter, Lux understood that each of these seven books had been personally written by the cave’s previous owner and the previous lady of the StagHart family.
~Welcome inheritor to the mind arts of the magical world.
Inside, you will find one of if not the most important piece of mind magic in this world.
The magic of Occlumency and Legilimency.
In this world, people can access other people’s minds with the Legilimency spell making it especially important to be able to defend your mind to protect not only your secrets but also your open life.
After all, who knows what someone who has access to your mind will do to you.
Perhaps you cannot comprehend the damage it could cause but as you learn the arts of mind magic, you will understand its true terror and the necessity to protect your own mind from both allies and enemies alike.~
Reading the introduction to the mind arts, Lux was shocked but excited.
After all, it seemed like an extremely important subject to learn and if he understood her words correctly, it would help him all of his life.
Turning the page, he was directly sent into the definition, the practical uses of occlumency along with the proper training regiment.
Reading the practice steps, the young boy wasted no time in beginning his practice.
He had already noticed that the occlumency skill had appeared on his runic lexicon.
– Occlumency: 1/2’786’312
‘Let’s begin.’ He decided as he looked at the first step which was to reach a state of calmness as if having nothing in his mind, no emotions and especially no thoughts.
It would allow the user to reach a state of perfect peace and calm.
Sitting in meditation on the bed, according to the book’s training process, he closed his eyes and immediately did his best to calm himself from all of his agitation, reaching a state of calmness as much as he could.
Sitting in the same position without moving, only concentrating on his task, Lux was already pretty good at this as he had a one-track mind, able to search and research a single subject for months if necessary.
Spending a couple of hours in relative peace of mind, doing his best to calm himself and get rid of any extra thoughts, he made great progress from having countless thoughts swirling in his head to gradually lowering the total amount.
As he opened his eyes a few hours later, he took a deep breath, needing to move slightly as his legs felt like they had ants crawling through them.
[Occlumency + 43 exp.]
“Alright, I’m improving a lot faster than when I was learning Futhorc!” He exclaimed, his face jubilant as he saw his chance at improving himself even faster than before.
“It does help to have a book to teach me.” He added with a smile as he looked at the books with even more care.
He would make sure to keep them preciously as they were true treasures.
Placing the book back on the bookshelf, he went back to the main cave where he took his food, preparing for the evening as the sun would soon disappear from the sky and with it all of his light for the day.
His day had been especially productive despite having awoken near noon and having only trained his occlumency for a few short hours.
With the light of the sun slowly disappearing and the night coming, he would soon head back in training this mind art with the goal of mastering it as soon as possible.
Reaching a thousand exp within the week was his ultimate goal.
After all, with a teaching book, he had no reason to take so much time learning this type of mind magic, especially since there was a lot more to study afterwards.
