Silence filled the hall after the decree ended.
Even through the curtain, I could feel the humiliation hidden beneath those elegant words.
Kicked out on the very first day after transmigration…
impressive.
But honestly-
This was good for me.
Excellent, even.
If I was placed in the farthest corner of the palace grounds, then I would finally have freedom.
No need to worry about that so-called Empress.
No palace drama.
A double win.
This idiot Kairo was crying for nothing.
“Kairo, don’t cry.
Get up.” I placed a hand on his shoulder to help him stand.
“Master!
You will be separated from Her Majesty!” he sobbed miserably.
Why does he care so much?
“It’s alright.
I’m fine.
I’m willing to accept this decree,” I assured him calmly.
“How can you accept this?
You love Her Majesty!
You almost lost your life for her, and now this?!” Kairo cried even harder.
“Do you know why I jumped into the river?” I asked carefully.
I needed to know too.
Why would that simp try to kill himself for a woman?
Ah man…
“Master, you may forget, but I cannot!”
Kairo wiped his tears roughly.
“You stood outside Her Majesty’s court, her chambers, and even her study just to meet her.
But as usual, she refused to see you, even knowing you waited there for two whole days without food or water!”
Kairo burst into tears again.
Okay…
this is too much.
Why would he- I mean, why would I have to beg just to meet my own wife?
“Kairo, it’s okay.
My mistake.
I should not have begged like that.
Stop crying now.
I’m really fine with it,” I tried reassuring him.
Frankly-
I truly didn’t care.
“No, it’s not fine!” Kairo protested.
“You jumped into the river out of depression!
I was terrified.
You don’t even know how distraught your father was.”
I stayed quiet and let him vent.
“You know…
while you were unconscious, your father tried to visit you,” Kairo said softly.
“But he wasn’t even allowed to meet you.”
I silently absorbed his words.
“Can I meet him now?” I asked slowly.
I wondered why they had forbidden him from seeing me.
“I don’t know.
I am only a servant,” Kairo replied, his crying finally slowing down.
“You would need Her Majesty’s permission.”
“Kairo,” I said softly, “stop crying now.
We need to move to Moonveil Palace and honor the decree.”
“Master…?” Kairo blinked at me in surprise.
He had completely stopped crying now.
“You…
aren’t hurt?”
“I don’t know what I feel yet,” I admitted honestly.
“I just woke up from my unconscious state.
Maybe something hit my head because I am not able to remember what happened.
But tell me something…
are you willing to accompany me wherever I go?”
I watched him carefully, testing his loyalty.
“Of course!” Kairo puffed out his chest proudly.
“I will follow you until my last breath!”
Hmm.
“Why did the Empress refuse to meet me?” I asked quietly, pretending to speak to myself.
But in reality-
I wanted Kairo’s answer.
I couldn’t ask too directly without sounding suspicious.
Kairo heard me and lowered his eyes sadly.
For a moment, he muttered under his breath while I pretended to remain lost in thought.
“Because…” his voice turned bitter.
“You are Her Majesty’s most hated consort.”
The most hated consort…
If she hated Elyas so much-
Then why did she marry him?
And why had Elyas begged so desperately for her attention?
Now…
I was inside his body.
What exactly was I supposed to do about this mess?
I sighed internally.
Well…
When life gives you lemons- make lemonade.
A slow smirk appeared on my face.
