Wen Yue followed behind Gong Hengye, tilting her head to look up at him.

The man wore a simple white shirt and black trousers, appearing tall and slender, yet not at all frail.

On the contrary, he exuded a sharp, powerful aura.Full novel: He swore love till death, but I chose his uncle’s arms — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Even standing beside him felt particularly reassuring.

And he was so tall—even a bit taller than Gong Chen.

She secretly compared their heights, realizing she only reached just above his shoulders.

Wen Xi was even a little shorter than her. If Wen Xi were standing beside him, she’d probably only reach just below his shoulders.

Was this the so-called “most adorable height difference”?

Wen Yue secretly pouted.

How could his taste be so poor? Out of everyone, why did he have to fancy Wen Xi?

Even now, Wen Yue could hardly believe she was his white moonlight.

He was so fierce and stern—where was there any sign of him liking her?

And if he truly considered her his white moonlight, he should have known how much she despised Wen Xi. So why would he still like Wen Xi?

Was his white moonlight really that worthless?

The plot simply didn’t make sense!

Lost in these chaotic thoughts, Wen Yue followed him all the way to the hospital entrance.

The thunderstorm was still raging, with layers of dark clouds pressing down, almost suffocating.

Feng Yang opened an umbrella, hesitating slightly. “Ninth Brother, maybe we should wait for the rain to stop before leaving?”

Clearly, whether being struck by lightning had left any trauma for Gong Hengye was unknown, but it had definitely become a trauma for those around him.

The little tail behind Gong Hengye nodded vigorously, fully agreeing with Feng Yang.

“Uncle, let’s wait until the rain stops and the thunder passes before leaving.”

No one here feared being struck by lightning more than she did.

Yet Gong Hengye remained as calm as ever, even letting out a cold laugh. “What’s there to fear? It won’t kill you.”

Feng Yang thought these words were directed at him and muttered anxiously, “But it could make you stupid.”

Wen Yue also assumed Gong Hengye’s words were meant for her and whispered, “You’re the male lead, the child of fate, of course you won’t die. But I’m different—I’m the villainess, and I could easily die, you know.”

Gong Hengye paused at her mention of “male lead” and “villainess,” then scoffed coldly. “Let me remind you, you’re already dead.”

Wen Yue pouted and fell silent.

Feng Yang quickly knelt in apology. “Ninth Brother, I was wrong.”

Gong Hengye closed his eyes, feeling a headache coming on.

If this continued, Cheng Yong’an would probably drag him to the psychiatric department for real.

Too tired to say more, he took the umbrella from Feng Yang and stepped down the stairs.

The car was parked right at the bottom of the hospital entrance steps. Feng Yang hurried ahead with the other bodyguards, swiftly opening the car door for him.

But after taking two steps, Gong Hengye suddenly stopped in the middle of the stairs and turned back.

He looked at Wen Yue, who was still at the top of the stairs, and frowned, his voice low. “Not coming?”

“I…”

Wen Yue’s face was deathly pale as she tentatively took a small step forward.

Just like that day, it felt as if she had hit an invisible barrier. She was instantly thrown back, her face growing even paler, her figure seeming to flicker faintly.

She looked up at him, her shimmering eyes brimming with tears, appearing utterly pitiful. Her voice carried a nasal tone as she said, “Uncle, it seems I can’t leave. What should I do?”

At this moment, Wen Yue resembled a little kitten lost in a rainy night, beautiful yet disheveled, huddled under the eaves, mewing plaintively at the only one who could take her home.Gong Hengye suddenly thought, this was no female ghost come to claim a life, but rather one sent to ensnare a soul.

His lips pressed into a tight line. After a silent moment, he turned and reached a hand up the step. “Come here.”

His long, pale fingers curled slightly toward her. Wen Yue tentatively placed her hand in his palm.

His fingers closed, enveloping her small, cold hand, and he gave a gentle tug.

Wen Yue moved forward with his pull, her eyes widening in surprise. In the next instant, she was pressed against his chest.

She blinked, then looked back in astonishment. The barrier that had blocked her seemed to have vanished just like that, and he had pulled her out with ease.

She turned her gaze back to Gong Hengye, her voice filled with delight. “Uncle, I’m out!”

Gong Hengye lowered his eyes, taking in the undisguised surprise and joy in her gaze. His tone was cool. “Is this how you usually act spoiled with Gong Chen?”

Wen Yue: “?”

What was he saying? Why couldn’t she understand?

Gong Hengye curved his lips on his own, his voice chilly. “No wonder you ended up in this state. Wen Yue, such tactics are outdated, and I’m not particularly fond of little white flowers either.”

His tone was icy, almost like a warning. “So in the future, don’t act spoiled with me.”

Wen Yue: “?”

But Gong Hengye had already released her and turned away again. “If you don’t want to leave, then stay.”

Seeing him about to descend the steps, Wen Yue didn’t have time to overthink. She hurried after him. “I wasn’t acting spoiled. I didn’t not want to leave. I really couldn’t move earlier.”

Gong Hengye didn’t look at her or respond. He walked to the car, handed the umbrella to Feng Yang, and bent to get in.

Wen Yue quickly followed him inside. Then, recalling his earlier words, she felt a surge of indignation and muttered softly, “And he says he doesn’t like little white flowers. Isn’t Wen Xi the epitome of a little white flower? Seems to me he likes her just fine.”

“?”

Gong Hengye turned to her in surprise. “What did you say?”

Had she seen his brain-dead self too?

Otherwise, how would she know about him and Wen Xi…

Wen Yue snorted lightly. “Are you unhappy because I criticized Wen Xi?”

Gong Hengye’s expression turned even colder. “Keep talking nonsense, and you can get out.”

Wen Yue dejectedly lowered her head.

She was becoming increasingly certain that she could never be his white moonlight.

Feng Yang was actually a bit confused.

Of course, the thunderstorm was loud, and the low words Gong Hengye had exchanged with Wen Yue on the steps were lost in the rain and thunder; they hadn’t heard them.

He and the other bodyguards had only seen their Ninth Brother suddenly turn around and make a very cool, reaching gesture into the air, then pull slightly.

A muscle spasm, or aftereffects of being struck by lightning?

Once in the car, Feng Yang sat in the passenger seat and turned to look at Gong Hengye. “Ninth Brother, where are we heading back to?”

Gong Hengye’s gaze fell on the space beside him. “What did you say?”

Feng Yang: “I said, where are we heading back to?”

Gong Hengye: “Keep talking nonsense, and you can get out.”

Feng Yang: “Yes, Ninth Brother. Sorry, Ninth Brother.”

He then turned to the driver and swiftly instructed, “Back to Haiting.”

Gong Hengye had no mind to deal with him, simply closing his eyes with a hint of irritation.

For the moment, he couldn’t understand why he had brought this troublesome creature back with him.

It wasn’t until they were nearing Haiting that Gong Hengye came back to his senses. “Who said we were going back to Haiting?”

Feng Yang: “…”

Was the imperial will so difficult to gauge these days?

Normally, if there was nothing going on, didn’t Ninth Brother always return to Haiting?

“Then… back to the Gong family?”Feng Yang tentatively asked, “But since Third Young Master has returned to the Gong family to see the old master, if you go back now, Ninth Brother, you might run into him.”

Gong Hengye irritably rubbed his temples. “Forget it.”

Although he wasn’t afraid of anything, he really wasn’t in the mood right now.

Besides, he had a troublesome little tail following him.

Meanwhile, Wen Yue beside him was quietly surprised.

Gong Hengye also lived in Haiting?

How come she didn’t know?

She had lived here for almost three years, spending most of her time here when she wasn’t working, yet she had never run into Gong Hengye.

Could it be that he really secretly liked her and chose to silently accompany her this way?

He had hidden it so deeply.
