In the dimension where I reside, time and space resemble a woven tapestry available for browsing. My compatriots are accustomed to admiring grand epics, specifically the rise and fall of civilizations, along with the collision and extinction of galaxies.
However, my interest, as they would put it, is somewhat insignificant. I am obsessed with observing a single accidental collision between two unique particles at an insignificant node within the infinite tapestry, as well as the brilliant and complex energy ripples triggered thereafter.
In language you can understand, I am a novice narrator. This is my first recording assignment.
In a future time slice that I was observing simultaneously, I learned about the personality classification model known as MBTI. I felt that although this model is simple and crude, it provides an unexpectedly interesting perspective for understanding the behavioral logic of low-dimensional intelligent entities. Therefore, I decided to retroactively import this framework into an earlier time point, using it as the primary analytical tool for this observation.
The core of my record focuses on two individuals corresponding to the ENTJ and ISTP patterns, Lu Ling and Ye Chen, and their encounter in a low-probability event known as an elevator malfunction. I was quite curious about how their inherent behavioral algorithms would interact within this unexpected surge of entropy.
Please note that my recording might be mixed with my personal thoughts and analyses based on this model. After all, applying theoretical models to dynamic reality is precisely the core part of this observation exercise.
Well, the story begins. Please pay attention to that ordinary spacetime coordinate and the elevator car about to deviate from its original orbit. To me, it resembles a catalyst on the verge of triggering a series of interesting reactions.
On the 66th floor, Lu Ling, who had just concluded a high-intensity meeting, rubbed the space between her eyebrows and stood looking slightly fatigued in the elevator lobby, preparing to go downstairs.
At this moment, a woman with long, jet-black, straight hair walked over to wait for the elevator. Her posture was exceptionally upright, and her shoulder lines were as crisp as if measured with a ruler. Even though Lu Ling was wearing ten-centimeter high heels, her figure was still noticeably taller than Lu Ling’s, making her particularly eye-catching as she stood to the side. Lu Ling pondered inwardly: This woman is so tall.
Her black leather jacket remained unzipped, casually open to reveal a minimalist white inner shirt, creating a clean and cool black-and-white color scheme.
Her slightly raised jawline was sharp and fluid, and her eyebrows formed a decisive sword shape with clean lines devoid of excess curves, instantly maximizing her bold aura. Her slender eyes were half-hidden behind strands of hair, carrying a natural aura of alienation that said strangers keep away when she was silent, resembling a sharp blade sheathed in its scabbard, being cold, resolute, and harboring the oppressive presence of someone in total control.
Yet, the casually open front of her jacket stirred a gentle breeze with her footsteps, while the streamlined motorcycle helmet she carried in one hand and the phone pressed against her ear added a touch of casual, unrestrained lifestyle flavor to her sternness.
This blend of cool, poised capability and striking, dashing style was half classic beauty and half refined gentlemanly aura. It was controlled beauty combined with fierce sharpness, possessing a strange, aggressive charm that made people hesitant to approach easily.
However, the next second, as she spoke into the phone mouthpiece, that frozen sense of distance instantly melted.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” Her steady, pleasant voice was saturated with undisguised indulgence that almost dripped with honey, her lips curving naturally into a faint hint of warmth that stood in stark contrast to her previous coolness. “That’s right, I just submitted my resume. What delicious food are you making tonight that’s so lavish? Alright, I understand, I’m coming home right now.”
Lu Ling caught sight of her out of the corner of her eye and pondered inwardly: Her tone is so light and sweet, is she talking to a lover? It feels a bit frivolous.
Mistaking this for a public elevator as well, Ye Chen stood slightly behind the woman to wait. She had no idea that this beautiful lady wearing a sharply tailored suit jacket and a step-skirt, with a cascade of lazy, wavy long hair, was actually the group’s CEO, Lu Ling.
A crisp chime of ding sounded, and the CEO’s private elevator arrived. The woman spoke softly into the phone just then: “Baby, Mommy is getting into the elevator, I’m hanging up first, Mommy loves you, see you at home.” Hearing this closing remark, Lu Ling suddenly realized: So she was talking to a child.
Lu Ling thought to herself: Ah, this elevator, oh well, anyway, it is no big deal.
Perhaps because she felt a trace of unperceived softening upon hearing that the other person was also a mother, or perhaps because she was genuinely exhausted and heading downstairs herself without wanting extra trouble, or perhaps because Ye Chen’s natural, uncalculated attitude prevented her from immediately raising her guard, ultimately, under the combination of various subtle factors, Lu Ling did not voice any objection to Ye Chen entering this private elevator alongside her.
The interior of the elevator was spacious, decorated with understated metal lines and soft lighting. The doors closed slowly, isolating the outside hustle and bustle. Lu Ling stood near the back, her tone cool and polite, her voice carrying a naturally pleasant texture akin to jade lightly tapped, asking: “What floor are you heading to?” This was her instinctive confirmation as the host.
Ye Chen glanced at the bottom button that was already lit up, typically set for direct passage from the executive floor to the private underground parking lot, assuming the other person had already pressed the public floor. Therefore, using that characteristic ISTP tone, which was gentle and steady yet slightly detached and polite, she replied: “You already pressed it.” She was completely unaware of the private nature of this elevator, assuming that the destination floor already included the ground floor.
Hearing this, Lu Ling was about to respond, but before she could speak again, suddenly, the elevator shook violently!
The lights flashed frantically a few times before going completely dark, leaving only the emergency lights casting a dim glow. Immediately after, a strong sensation of weightlessness struck, and the elevator plunged out of control into a rapid descent!
“Ah!” The sudden turn of events forced a terrified scream from the woman who had just been speaking in gentle tones. Her body lost its balance due to the uncontrolled downward pull, and she instinctively fell backward.
Although shocked, Ye Chen’s reflex-like calmness, forged through years of mechanical operation and practical experience, allowed her to react quickly. In her cognition, the person before her was not a stranger needing emotional comforting, but a physical puzzle waiting to be solved: how to minimize impact injury. She immediately stabilized her center of gravity, driven almost by pure physical intuition and the principle of maximizing efficiency. Seeing the lady in front of her about to fall, she stepped forward without hesitation, reached out to pull her tightly into her embrace, used her own body as a buffer, and pressed her back against the elevator car wall to minimize the impact.
“Don’t be afraid!” Ye Chen’s voice sounded exceptionally calm amidst the darkness and chaos, carrying a reassuring strength. Lu Ling, sheltered in her arms, could smell the faint, cool, refreshing scent emanating from her and feel the sturdiness and strength of her embrace, which miraculously smoothed away some of her panic.
Fortunately, after plunging rapidly for several floors, the elevator jerked violently, as safety clamps seemed to take effect and brought it to an abrupt halt. The massive momentum caused both of them to stagger, but Ye Chen never released her grip protecting the other person.
Once the initial shock passed, Lu Ling felt her legs turn too weak to stand, relying entirely on Ye Chen for support. Carefully steadying her, Ye Chen moved swiftly to the control panel and pressed the emergency call button.
Even while startled, Ye Chen strove to maintain clarity and composure: “This is Elevator Number One! The elevator malfunctioned and dropped rapidly before stopping. There are two people inside, requesting immediate rescue!”
A response came from outside: “Copy that! Please stay calm, rescue personnel are on the way!”
Under the dim lighting, Ye Chen looked at the lady she had rescued and asked softly: “Are you alright? Don’t be scared, the rescue personnel will be here right away.”
Lu Ling was pale, clearly frightened, and her voice trembled slightly: “I am alright, thank you.”
Shortly after, the voices of rescue personnel and equipment could be heard outside. The elevator car had ultimately halted somewhere between floors, and rescue workers pried open a gap from above.
“Can the people inside hear us? We are prying open the door now, please cooperate!”
The elevator door was laboriously pried open to reveal a gap just wide enough for a person to crawl out of, though the position was awkward, roughly at waist height.
“Madam, you should go out first,” Ye Chen said to Lu Ling.
Wearing high heels and a step-skirt, Lu Ling found movement extremely inconvenient and tried several times without success to climb out. A rescue worker attempted to pull her from the outside, but it proved quite strenuous as well.
Noticing the stranger’s predicament, Ye Chen unhesitatingly placed her motorcycle helmet on the ground as a footing: “Madam, step on this for leverage!”
Yet this still seemed insufficient. With the situation urgent, Ye Chen made a prompt decision and said to Lu Ling: “Pardon me, Madam!”
With that, Ye Chen scooped her up securely, smoothly lifting and transferring her out of the elevator exit where rescue workers on the outside immediately caught and received her.
Lu Ling thought to herself: Ah, before she even had time to react, she had been effortlessly scooped out of danger by this decisive, cool-looking stranger she was meeting for the very first time.
At that moment, a tall, handsome man wearing a crisp suit rushed to the scene at top speed. His expression was calm but his gaze sharp, quickly taking complete charge as he was none other than Lu Ling’s chief of the president’s office, Chen Wei. Having received word, he had immediately suspended all business to rush over. Seeing that President Lu was safe but visibly shaken, he first rapidly verified Lu Ling’s condition: “President Lu, are you alright?” Immediately turning around, he efficiently coordinated the on-site rescue and subsequent matters with a decisive tone: “Immediately cordon off the area surrounding the malfunctioning elevator, and notify the head of the engineering department to report to me right away!”
Rescue workers turned their attention to Ye Chen inside the elevator: “Madam, can you climb out?”
Before the words could finish, a secondary crisis struck!
The supported elevator suddenly lost control once more, plunging down another section accompanied by a harsh screech of friction!
“Watch out!” Lu Ling, who had just escaped danger, cried out simultaneously with Chen Wei and others outside!
Having sent Lu Ling out, the elevator opening had momentarily transformed into a hole roughly at head height that required stooping to see through.
“Madam! Are you alright?” Rescue workers shouted anxiously downward.
After a brief silence, Ye Chen’s steady voice floated up from below: “I am fine. Could you please take three steps back? I’m coming right up.”
Though puzzled, Chen Wei immediately signaled everyone around to step back and clear space.
Seeing this, Ye Chen first handed her helmet out and placed it on the ground. Immediately afterward, her figure moved with the agility of a leopard. Pressing both hands against the edge of the opening and engaging her core, she easily and cleanly vaulted out, executing a forward roll for cushioning to spring directly to her feet. The entire sequence of motions flowed like running water, clean and crisp.
She stood upright, casually pushing her messy bangs away from her eyes, her breathing entirely unhurried as if the heart-pounding moment she had just lived through was nothing more than a trivial affair.
“Are you hurt?” She looked toward Lu Ling first to confirm.
Lu Ling was momentarily speechless, startled by Ye Chen’s unexpected agility: “I’m fine.”
Right at that instant, a thunderous crash echoed from the elevator shaft behind Ye Chen! The malfunctioning elevator had completely smashed down into the bottom pit, emitting a bone-chilling sound of destruction.
Everyone gasped, a powerful wave of lingering fear washing over them. Had they been delayed by even a few seconds, the outcome would have been unthinkable.
Taking a deep breath to suppress her fluttering heart, Lu Ling walked over to Ye Chen, her tone solemn and sincere: “Thank you so much for just now. If it weren’t for you…” She glanced back at the elevator shaft with lingering fear. “Could you tell me your name? Our group will definitely take responsibility for this incident, thoroughly investigate the root cause, and compensate you for the fright caused by this accident. More importantly, I must thank you for saving my life.”
Ye Chen smiled faintly, dusting off the slight layer of ash on her clothes: “Just a small favor. I’m fine, but I’m pressed for time and have to go.” With that, she picked up her helmet from the floor, turned on her heel, and walked away briskly, her figure quickly vanishing around the corner of the corridor.
“Hey, wait!” Lu Ling wanted to call out to her, but it was already too late; she hadn’t even managed to ask for a name.
Following this, Lu Ling held an urgent discussion with Chen Wei, the chief of the president’s office who had rushed over promptly, concerning this severe elevator accident. With a cold and unquestionable tone, Lu Ling instructed him to investigate the cause immediately and unearth the root of the issue without fail. Knowing the gravity of the situation, Chen Wei deployed investigators right away.
Why did the accident happen precisely in the CEO’s private elevator? Was it an accident, or something else?
However, during the subsequent investigation, Chen Wei encountered unexpected resistance. He discovered that parts of the relevant surveillance log footage were bizarrely missing, and recent special elevator maintenance records appeared to have been artificially tampered with, rendering the logs for critical timestamps blurry or logically incomplete. Clues were broken multiple times, stalling the investigation and making it difficult to trace direct responsible parties or unearth concrete evidence pointing to obvious deliberate sabotage. Consequently, the accident was shrouded in a meticulously planned cloud of suspicion, rendering Chen Wei’s report exceptionally heavy.
Upon hearing Chen Wei’s briefing, Lu Ling’s expression remained calm, yet a layer of ice formed deep within her gaze. She waved her hand to let Chen Wei continue his secret investigation without making a commotion.
This matter was far from a simple accident. Until the mastermind behind the scenes was uncovered, the news that she had narrowly escaped danger must be locked down tight.
Undercurrents surged within the group, making friend and foe indistinguishable. Making this matter public now would be equivalent to alerting the enemy, rendering the adversary hiding in the shadows even more vigilant, and potentially inviting even more dangerous retaliation.
The fewer people who knew, the better. Until the truth came to light, this affair had to remain restricted to an absolute minimum of trusted individuals. Every step had to be executed with caution, leaving no room for opponents to exploit.
Once the office grew quiet again, Lu Ling walked over to the massive floor-to-ceiling windows, overlooking the bustling city. The sensation of surviving a catastrophe occasionally surfaced quietly in the stillness of the night. Her thoughts drifted involuntarily back to the moment right before the elevator descent, recalling the figure who had unexpectedly burst into her private elevator and sheltered her tightly in her embrace.
“Thinking back now, it was sheer fortune,” Lu Ling whispered unconsciously, her fingertips tapping rhythmically and absentmindedly against the window frame. “Fortunately back then, I didn’t immediately voice an objection to stop her from boarding the elevator.”
This thought struck her clearly and with lingering fear. It completely violated the efficiency principle of rule supremacy and risk aversion that she upheld as an ENTJ. In that instant, an irrational, nearly inefficient act of tacit permission had produced the optimal result. If she had maintained her consistent adherence to rule supremacy at the time and coldly asked that applicant to leave the elevator, then when disaster struck, she would have been trapped alone inside that dark metal coffin, experiencing a fatal free fall, enduring all the terror entirely by herself, lacking any immediate protection, and multiplying her probability of injury. This terrifying conclusion derived from logical deduction sent a chilling frost through her goal-driven mind.
That prompt, exceptionally skilled applicant who had saved her yet departed dashingly was like a brief yet intense flash of light cutting across her crisis. That calm and decisive voice in the dim elevator, that cool and refreshing scent, and the sense of security of being firmly guarded by those sturdy arms transformed, after the adrenaline faded, into a subtle yet stubborn fluttering that quietly nested at the bottom of her heart. Lu Ling occasionally recalled her during busy intervals, instinctively using her habitual evaluation framework to dismantle the scene in an attempt to find a logical justification for that inexplicable concern.
She had once instructed her secretary to pull all applicant lists from the HR department for that day, telling herself this was merely to repay a life-saving debt and unearth an outstanding talent for the group, representing a sufficiently persuasive reason aligning with the efficiency principle.
However, the result reported by her secretary was that no records matching the description of that applicant could be found, and the resume that should have existed seemed to have been inadvertently omitted by the HR department, or as if it had been deliberately discarded by an invisible hand.
Facing this outcome, Lu Ling felt a twofold resistance: first, the investigative predicament of broken clues, and second, a sort of private sense of loss that she herself was unwilling to probe deeply. Under circumstances where internal investigation results were unclear and allies versus enemies remained uncertain, making a grand fuss to search for a non-existent applicant would be tantamount to exposing her own weaknesses and focal points to potential masterminds behind the scenes, creating a massive strategic risk that outweighed any gains.
After several rational weighings, Lu Ling temporarily suppressed the thought. She sealed that emotion, which was mixed with curiosity, gratitude, and a hint of indescribable flutter, deep inside her heart with the caution reserved for handling top-secret files, choosing not to touch it lightly. She decided to wait for a more appropriate opportunity.
As for that nameless applicant, she seemed to truly be nothing more than a sudden apparition and rapid guardian shadow during a harrowing day, leaving behind a mystery and a flutter wrapped tightly in her rational control yet quietly continuing to grow as she faded softly into the sea of humanity.
