After Su Xiahe left, Shen Jin sat motionless on the sofa.

Shen Tan walked over and smiled gently. “You anonymously distributed financial aid to students at Jiangcheng University last time—it was for this girl, wasn’t it?”

The Xie Corporation was the top-ranked conglomerate in Jiangcheng in terms of comprehensive economic strength, and it was the Shen family’s enterprise.Full novel: He’s Good at Acting Cute, but He’s Bad to the Point of Bubbling — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The current head of the group was Shen Tan, while Shen Jin’s position at the Xie Corporation was Executive President.

However, he rarely involved himself in the company’s affairs, big or small—everything was handled by his older sister, Shen Tan.

The Shen family was the premier wealthy clan of Jiangcheng.

As for why the company was called “Xie Corporation,” it was because the old chairman—the father of the Shen siblings, Shen Sixing—had loved his wife Xie Shuyu deeply. After Xie Shuyu passed away, Shen Sixing renamed the company “Xie Corporation.”

Seeing that Shen Jin remained silent, Shen Tan smiled and casually remarked, “Do you have any idea how much extra the Xie Corporation spends every year because of this financial aid of yours?”

Only then did Shen Jin speak. “Hasn’t the Xie Corporation always loved doing charity?”

That was true, but it also depended on what kind of charity.

If she took that money to a charity auction and bid on a piece, wouldn’t that be better than this? It would earn both goodwill and media exposure.

Shen Tan analyzed seriously, “That’s different.”

“Sis.” Shen Jin smiled faintly. “Does the Xie Corporation lack this bit of money?”

Well, it didn’t exactly lack it.

Shen Jin rose and walked toward the door. “There’s something at the hospital. I’m heading out.”

“Hey—” Shen Tan let out a soft sigh, shaking her head with a smile.

Su Xiahe found a small inn near Jiangcheng University to stay at. She was grateful she’d brought her ID card when she left the house today.

Otherwise, she probably wouldn’t even have a place to stay.

Because she wanted to save money, she booked the cheapest room—the kind without a private bathroom.

She entered the room, put her things down, grabbed her phone, and went to the public restroom.

When she came back, she discovered her door had been pried open. Her heart tightened instantly. She pushed the door carefully to check—no one was inside.

Although the door had been forced open, nothing was missing.

She immediately went to the front desk and reported the situation to the owner.

But the owner flat-out refused to acknowledge it, insisting that she must not have closed the door properly.

He even threw out a “Take it or leave it.”

This inn was shabby, and the hallway had no surveillance cameras. There was simply no way to argue with that unreasonable owner.

Su Xiahe chalked it up to bad luck and decided not to stay there anymore.

If the door could be pried open, it meant the inn’s security was far too poor.

What if someone had broken in while she was asleep…

She didn’t even dare think about it.

So she stubbornly pressed the owner until he refunded her the room fee, then left the inn.

Night had fallen, the sky darkening, and the streetlights spilled dim yellow light onto the road.

Su Xiahe wore a worried expression as she stood by the roadside, looking around for another inn nearby.

Suddenly, a person darted out from somewhere and snatched her bag.

Once she realized what happened, she cried out, “Robbery!”

A man with dyed yellow hair was sprinting ahead.

She shouted, “Someone stole my bag!”

At the same moment, a tall figure brushed past her, chasing after the yellow-haired man ahead.

But that tall figure…

Why did he look so familiar? He seemed to be… Shen Jin.

Impossible!

How could Shen Jin possibly be here?

She thought about it as she jogged after them.

The yellow-haired thief ran into a narrow alley, and Shen Jin followed him in.

The yellow-haired man was gasping for breath and finally stopped, turning back to look at the tall figure chasing him.

Then he grinned and said, “Boss, I got the bag. Here you go.”

As he spoke, he handed over the stolen bag. “The payment you promised me…”

Shen Jin ignored him, took the bag, and pulled out the wallet. Inside the wallet was Su Xiahe’s ID card.

He slid her ID card out and looked at it carefully.

So A-He’s ID photo was this pretty.

After a moment, he tucked the ID card into his black trousers pocket.

He extended his right leg and glanced sideways at the yellow-haired man. “Hit me!”

The yellow-haired man: “!?”

What?

Hit you? How would he dare!

Shen Jin said slowly, “I told you to hit me—with a stick, right here.”

He pointed at his ankle.

The yellow-haired man swallowed hard. Though terrified, this was his employer’s request, so he had no choice but to comply.

He was quick-witted enough to guess that the employer wanted to play the hero saving the damsel in distress, then stage a bit of a “suffering act.”

He looked around, grabbed a wooden stick nearby, and struck Shen Jin’s ankle.

For the sake of authenticity, his blow wasn’t light—otherwise, the suffering act wouldn’t be convincing.

But Shen Jin didn’t even flinch.

After the hit, the yellow-haired man immediately tossed the stick aside and stammered, “It… it was you who told me to hit you.”

Shen Jin lifted his pant leg and glanced at it. There was a distinct red mark.

Good. He was very satisfied.

He lowered his pant leg and faced the yellow-haired man with a cold tone. “Open your payment QR code.”

The yellow-haired man fumbled to open his payment code…

When Su Xiahe chased him into the alley, she only saw Shen Jin standing there alone, leaning against the wall.

“Shen Jin, is it really you?”

Shen Jin looked up, a trace of surprise on his face. “A-He? What are you doing here?”

Su Xiahe immediately ran up and grabbed Shen Jin’s arm.

Her neatly trimmed fingertips brushed across his shoulder through the thin fabric of his shirt…

It felt like every hair on his body stood on end, a tingling sensation spreading through him.

It was a feeling he liked very much.

“Shen Jin, were you chasing the thief who just snatched the bag?”

Shen Jin hummed in acknowledgment. “How did you know?”

Su Xiahe’s voice was soft. “The bag that was snatched—it was mine.”

Shen Jin looked somewhat surprised. “No wonder it seemed a bit familiar.”

Su Xiahe noticed that his leg was bent, and she immediately asked with a worried expression, “Are you injured?”

Shen Jin gently rolled up his pant leg, not hiding it. “Yeah.”

Su Xiahe looked at the bruise on his ankle. “Does it hurt?”

A-He, your big brother has been through countless battles. How could this little injury hurt?

Shen Jin nodded. “A little.”

Shen Jin had gotten hurt because he was helping her chase down the thief who stole her bag.

Thinking about that, a pang of guilt rose in Su Xiahe’s heart.

Shen Jin handed her the bag in his hand. “Check if anything’s missing.”

Su Xiahe temporarily set aside her guilt, took the bag, and gave it a quick look. “Seems like just my ID card is missing. Everything else is still here.”

“Is that so? Then I’ll help you look for it. It might have fallen on the ground when I was struggling with him just now.”

With that, he bent down.

Su Xiahe pressed him back up, her voice a little louder. “Shen Jin, your foot isn’t in good shape. Just stand still. I’ll look for it myself.”

“Alright,” Shen Jin didn’t insist further, turning on the flashlight on his phone. “There’s no streetlight here. I’ll shine the light for you.”

Su Xiahe bent down to search. “Thanks.”

Heh, take your time looking.

If you could find it…

Unless you reach out and feel around in your big brother’s pants pocket.

Su Xiahe searched all around but still couldn’t find the ID card.

“Forget it, I won’t look anymore. I’ll report it lost tomorrow.”

Shen Jin turned off the flashlight. “Mm.”

Su Xiahe stood up and carefully supported Shen Jin. “Can you still walk?”

“Probably not.”

Su Xiahe hesitated for a moment. “Then I’ll take you back.”

Shen Jin lowered his head, hiding his face in the shadows as he secretly curled his lips into a smile. “Alright, then I’ll trouble you.”

Su Xiahe shook her head vigorously. “How could it be trouble? You got hurt because you were helping me.”

With Su Xiahe’s support, Shen Jin limped out of the alley.

To conquer a person, first conquer their heart. Shen Jin effortlessly dispelled all of Su Xiahe’s concerns.
