A Transfigured Snake Bites Blake
“…How could I possibly forget? It’s so embarrassing!”
Hermione stared miserably at the cake.
If she threw it away, she would feel that it was a waste.
But if she kept it, every time she looked at it, she would remember what had happened earlier.
“Bang!”
Just as Hermione was hesitating, the sound of something heavy crashing into the ground came from the distance.
A moment later, a familiar-sounding scream followed.
The sudden situation left her no time to worry about her embarrassment.
Hermione raised her head and curiously looked toward the direction of the sound.
It didn’t seem to be very far away.
Hermione really did have the makings of a natural Gryffindor.
After hearing the suspicious noise, she didn’t immediately run away.
Instead, she slowed her pace and cautiously walked toward it.
In a rarely visited area, Blake sat quietly beside a small tree.
Directly in front of him, a green venomous snake was coiled on the ground.
Its forked tongue flicked in and out, while its cold eyes were filled with wariness as it stared at the human before it.
Blake hesitated for a moment, but eventually extended his right hand toward the vicious snake’s head.
“Whoosh!”
Things unfolded exactly as one might expect.
The small venomous snake suddenly sprang forward and bit down on the back of Blake’s hand.
Blake merely frowned slightly without showing any panic.
He slowly raised his other hand and gently placed his palm against the snake’s head.
The snake, which had been biting down tightly, immediately released its grip.
The aggression in its eyes gradually softened as well.
The snake crawled up along his palm and soon curled quietly around his arm, becoming extremely docile.
Then, the snake’s body began to change shape.
In the blink of an eye, it turned back into a dry tree branch.
That’s right.
The venomous snake had originally been created by Blake using Transfiguration.
Everything that had just happened was merely a simple test.
The results proved that animals created through Transfiguration still possessed the attacking instincts of wild animals even without the caster actively controlling them.
Once they were restrained with magic, however, they would obey the caster’s commands.
But Blake also discovered a problem.
Although the snake had venomous fangs, there was no actual venom inside them.
“Perhaps it’s because I’ve only mastered the basic level?”
Blake excitedly examined the dry branch in his hand.
With a thought, the branch immediately changed shape, quickly transforming into a long sword that gleamed coldly.
He hadn’t expected Basic Transfiguration Mastery to have such a tremendous effect.
It was as though, as long as his imagination was clear enough, the object in his hand could transform into whatever shape he wanted.
The sensation of reshaping matter at will quickly captivated Blake.
However, the constant pain coming from his right hand interrupted his practice.
Although the Transfigured snake from earlier wasn’t venomous, its sharp teeth had still pierced his skin.
Bright red blood flowed down the back of his hand.
Blake had no choice but to place the long sword beside him and point the fingers of his left hand at the wound.
“Reparo!”
As the spell left his lips, the damaged skin rapidly closed.
The wound faded at an astonishing speed, and before long, it had completely healed.
Even after seeing such a phenomenon that defied common sense a hundred times, he would still find it fascinating.
Once the injury had healed, he casually plucked a leaf from a nearby tree and wiped away the blood remaining on his skin.
Afterward, Blake tossed the leaf onto the ground and continued studying his Transfiguration.
A gentle breeze continuously passed through the woods.
The bloodstained leaf was lifted by the wind and slowly drifted deeper into the shadows.
After a while, Blake was still happily experimenting with various transformations when a strange sound suddenly came from within the woods.
It sounded like the deep growl of a large carnivorous animal.
Blake immediately stopped what he was doing, his expression becoming wary.
He frowned and looked toward the darker depths of the forest.
Because of the poor lighting, he couldn’t directly see what was inside.
However, he could strongly feel that he was being watched.
It was as though something was staring at him from the darkness.
There was also a faint sense of danger lingering in the air.
“Thump! Thump! Thump!”
The sound of something striking the ground suddenly rang out, growing closer and closer.
Some large creature was charging toward him at tremendous speed!
Blake was already prepared for the attack, but to his surprise, he couldn’t see any figure in front of him at all.
Confused, he looked down.
One footprint after another appeared out of thin air in the soil, rapidly approaching him.
This was…
The creature was invisible!
Blake shouted and immediately threw himself to the side.
“Boom!”
A muffled crash came from behind him.
The spot where he had been standing moments earlier had already been smashed by something enormous.
