Chapter 12 – The Words of Lord Stark.

HotD – Jon Arctic!

[Chapter Size: 3000 Words.]

Third Person POV

North, 95 AC.

Jon could not believe the experience he was having at that moment. The air hit against his face while he felt his body flying at high speed. His heart pulsed calmly, but his stomach seemed about to churn from so much excitement.

He passed through the clouds, the air was highly freezing, but it did not bother him.

He could not believe he was flying over a land full of ice, on top of a white creature. The same creature he remembered having healed the injured leg. But now it did not wear armor. Its white scales were completely exposed.

Jon could see distant mountains and forests between the clouds, all the nature around him.

That white creature with giant wings moved whenever they beat through the air and produced explosions of wind every time they moved downward to keep the stability of the flight.

He felt inside himself, euphoric.

'Eragon...' Jon also felt that he was communicating with the dragon, which he called Aragon. He simply spent those minutes relaxing over the creature that Jon still did not know exactly what it was, but that was simply incredible.

He never wanted to leave there again.

However, his 'self' seemed to have another idea. "Eragon, let's return now to Arctic."

Jon heard his own voice saying that while touching the dragon's skin in an affectionate way, which began to circle in the air.

Jon did not know this place called Arctic, but he really wanted to see it.

However, his vision changed before he could do anything.

Suddenly, he found himself standing before a sword on the slope of a mountain, due to the height he was at, there were several peaks in that place, but he seemed solitary there, sitting on a rock.

There was a sword with an intense glow over his hand, while he had eyes on the glow between the hilt and the blade. It was as if the sword were magical, because it shone like a sun.

"You two sacrificed yourselves, so that she could awaken..." Jon heard himself speaking with a much older voice.

The sword only shone and did not respond to anything about that comment.

"I hope it was worth it... Now we need to go to Asshai, the Land of Shadows and also... the origin of all evil." With those words, Jon's vision became blurry.

Suddenly, he opened his eyes inside his room, recognizing the ceiling immediately.

He was breathing with some difficulty. It did not take long for a ball of fur to rush through the entrance of the room, with some cries of astonishment coming from other rooms of that small house.

Jon saw Ghost and formed a smile, remembering well that he had woken up that other morning with the wolf already healed.

Seeing Ghost approaching him with bouncy steps before attacking him with licks on the face made him laugh like a happy little boy.

"Ghost..." Jon said with emotion.

"Ghost! What got into you to run off like that? Did something happen to Jon?" His mother's voice roared as she ran to the room.

She then widened her eyes when she saw him awake and opened a big smile before going to her son with a maternal hug.

"Oh, my little boy... you finally woke up!", she said.

Sam and Mari also ran inside the house, since they had been playing with Ghost in the yard, when the wolf suddenly ran inside without caring about them anymore.

"Jon!", Mari shouted when she saw him awake.

Jon looked, showing a smile to his little brother and to his cousin, still between Ghost and his mother's hug.

"Hi, Mari", he said, laughing.

"I heard Ghost was hurt, but Sam said you healed him, and you were passed out when I arrived. Are you okay?", she asked, curious and worried.

"Well, I'll tell your father that you woke up", Rowena said, getting up and leaving the room, letting the children talk.

Sam approached with Mari, exchanging a few words, while Sara also entered the room and joined the conversation of Jon, his brother, and her daughter.

Garren and Ronan arrived soon after accompanied by Rowena.

Jon was immediately attacked by questions, and he had to admit some things.

"Jon, you have to explain to us what happened..." his father demanded.

The boy looked at him with his emerald eyes and nodded a few seconds later... "I heard a voice coming from that tree behind our house... It said I should go when the moon was at the highest point in the sky. I did that", Jon said carefully, while the two families looked at him with some astonishment.

"The tree spoke to you?", Ronan asked, seeming skeptical.

Jon just nodded his head, a little agitated. It seemed that everyone was looking at him as if he were something strange.

"Are you sure, Jon?", his father asked, worried. "No tree should speak."

"I swear, father. It was strange. I went to it and touched it to pray."

"At night, Jon? Do you have any idea of the danger you put yourself in?", Rowena said with a severe tone, setting aside all the gentleness her son knew very well.

"But the voice said...", Jon insisted.

"That doesn't mean you had to put yourself in danger!", Rowena retorted. She would never agree with that. There are wild animals at night wandering near their house because it is beside the forest, even in the shed they close the door for Ghost to sleep.

"Anyway, I had a strange vision", he began, making a small pause.

"I was in a..." Jon did not know how to define what a beach was, but he managed to describe the sea by the infinite view of water. "I think I was in a place where there was a sea", he began.

That certainly caught the attention of the adults. Jon had never gone to the northern coast.

"I don't know... there was white sand... and water as far as I could see. There was a storm in the sky, very far away. But what caught my attention were two creatures that were in that place."

Jon began to think of the name. Suddenly, he remembered. "I remembered!", he exclaimed. "I was with two dragons!" He began to speak, oblivious to the astonished looks of the adults, while the children widened their eyes.

Who had not heard of dragons at that time? Dragons were controlled by a single family in Westeros, the family that ruled all the Seven Kingdoms, and there was no one in the realm who did not know them.

"Jon... are you sure about that?", his mother stammered.

"Yes. I saw two dragons! Both were injured. There was a white one and a black one with green eyes. The white one had blue eyes, but it was a little different from the black one, even though it was much smaller. The black one was gigantic. I didn't know there were dragons that big!", he said excitedly.

But then he made a small pause before continuing.

"Then I realized… I wasn't controlling my body. I only saw that whoever it was was wearing armor and had a body… maybe of an adult. I couldn't really tell", he continued.

"He touched a wound after removing some plates from an armor that I can't say what it was, but it was more beautiful than the swords Lord Stark carries at his waist", Jon added, since he did not use Ice and there was no way to compare it to the valyrian steel from the vision.

"Then I saw him extending his hand, and a glow began to appear. The wound on the dragon's leg began to heal. After that I saw him healing the black dragon, which was even more injured… and it even looked at me gratefully."

He paused again, trying to remember something else, but he couldn't.

"Then I simply blacked out and woke up in the middle of the barn. I don't know what happened after that."

The adults just stared at him as if they were seeing a second head on Jon.

Garren looked at his brother and then at Rowena before looking back at Jon. "Jon, I want you not to talk about this to anyone, understood?", he said with a serious tone and look.

Then he looked back at the children. They shouldn't even have heard that, especially when Jon mentioned that he saw dragons and that he healed them. He could not let this leave that room.

"And you also must not say anything about this, understood? Much less in front of strangers. Do you promise?", Garren said.

"Mari, listen to your uncle. I know you like to gossip, but this is serious", Sara added to her daughter.

The girl nodded, a little worried when she saw the serious look of the adults. Even Sara nodded to her, indicating that she should obey.

In the end, the adults only asked Jon not to mention this story to anyone besides them. If he had another vision, he should tell them.

Jon stayed there talking with his cousin and his younger brother, while Ghost remained by his side the entire time.

The adults no longer seemed so unconcerned. They were trying to understand what the hell was happening with Jon.

"He is blessed by the old gods... You have known that since his birth", Sara said with them gathered near the children. "All of this is strange. I always said that."

Sara was insistent about this and had mentioned it several times over the years. That night only confirmed everything she had always said.

"In fact, that was already confirmed since the birth of the heart tree. No heart tree just appears behind people's houses out of nowhere." Ronan said.

Garren looked seriously at his brother. "Ronan, I want you to come live with us." That caught everyone by surprise.

"What?", Ronan murmured.

"I'm serious. I need you here with me, brother. I need your help to deal with all of this. These strange things are going to draw a lot of attention, and sometimes I need to leave the house. I don't want to leave my family alone."

"There is enough space to build a new house next to the property."

Garren took his hand out of his pocket and showed several gold coins falling from a small pouch onto the table.

"With the gold that Lord Stark gave me, I can buy your house so you can settle here. But I need you, brother. I need your help to deal with Jon", Garren said seriously.

Ronan looked at the gold, then at his brother, and then at Sara. The woman surprisingly nodded to her husband. "They need us", she said.

Ronan nodded before turning back to Garren. "All right. I'll build a house here, brother."

"Great. Here you will not go hungry. You can bring the cattle and your dogs to graze. There will be no lack of food or resources. There has never been a shortage for us here. We have always had a good harvest. One more family will not make a difference", Garren said.

Ronan nodded.

Garren had been worried for some time already. When Garren went out to hunt together with Lord Stark and left Rowena and Sam alone, they never had problems. But lately, their small farm had been drawing too much attention because of Jon.

It was better for them to start looking after one another.

In the end, Ronan was already moving to the property, his old house was one day away from Jon's house, and Jon spent the next days playing with Mari, together with Ghost, while they ran across the property from one side to the other.

The adults stayed together preparing meals, helping in the house or taking care of the farm and its maintenance. Garren and Ronan were buying the materials in the village for the construction of the new house, which they themselves would raise... They were preparing for Ronan to move there permanently.

Mari was radiant. Jon and Sam were also very happy to have their cousin with them to play every day.

Jon loved his brother, but sometimes it was irritating to have a boy two or three years younger asking silly questions all the time. Sam always followed him like a little duckling.

Mari, despite being quite pushy and nosy, seemed to be a fun companion for Jon because she was older.

Jon loved his younger brother even more than Mari, but each had their own personality. Sometimes Jon liked to be with children closer to his age. Sometimes he even liked to be alone with no one around, especially when he was in the forest.

Anyway, Lord Stark finally appeared at the farm, about a week after the bear incident.

He came to the small farm, frightening Garren and his brother when they saw the horses stopping at the entrance of the property. In the last few days, people from the village had been approaching the gates asking why Lord Stark had appeared, and with the bear incident spreading, people seemed to want to see them even more.

They thought Garren had suddenly become important because the Lord of the North was going to his house. It was strange. But now, seeing the man himself in person, on top of his horse, Garren swallowed dryly.

"Lord Stark… I am a little surprised to see you here...", Garren said carefully.

Lord Stark nodded. Benjen turned his gaze to Ronan beside Garren.

"This is my brother, Ronan", Garren quickly explained when he noticed the lord's look.

"My lord", Ronan said, lowering his head.

"Well, hunter, I came to check how your son is doing. I heard the direwolf was about to die. I imagine you have already buried it, right?", he said in a calm tone, but one that seemed sad when mentioning the wolf.

But before Garren could respond, which would have to be careful, Jon approached from behind the house, with the enormous ball of fur following behind him.

Garren immediately saw the look of astonishment on Lord Stark's face.

The lord slowly turned back when he saw Jon approaching with the wolf. Ghost looked curiously at the man before wagging his tail excitedly.

"Hello, Lord Stark!", Jon said with an innocent smile, very different from the one he showed when Ghost was about to die.

The place fell completely silent for a moment. Even the Stark siblings, who began whispering among themselves, were looking with wide eyes and open mouths at the direwolf beside the boy. There were more than two children wearing the Stark sigil, one mounted on a small horse and another on the same horse as Lord Stark himself, they were equally astonished.

"I thought he was dead...", Lord Stark said only that, in a neutral tone.

Garren shifted a little. "He was about to die, Lord Stark. I did not lie. But suddenly, a miracle happened."

There was no way to avoid that.

Surprisingly, Lord Stark did not seem angry about the possibility that Garren had deceived his soldier. The man was not even there, but he would certainly be astonished if he saw the wolf.

Benjen believed Garren's words... For Lord Stark, he had seen the wolf injured with a type of wound that would condemn it to death. He had even tried to call the maester of Cerwyn, since the maester of Torrhen's Square was in the middle of a wedding and could not leave there to abandon the men and nobles of the North to their own devices.

Even though Lord Stark truly wanted to save the direwolf and not feel cursed for practically condemning the creature after it had finally returned south of the Wall.

But the wolf was there. And the boy was cheerful again, as if he had not gone through a near-death experience with a murderous bear.

"Hello, Jon." Lord Stark gave a slight smile and made the horse step back a little before showing two young boys.

"These are my sons, Rickard and Bennard Stark."

Rickard was Jon's age and was on the smaller horse, while Bennard was younger, perhaps about three namedays old. He was in Lord Stark's arms.

The two were still stupefied when they saw the direwolf. Ghost was not at adult age yet, but he already looked almost the size of a pony. Almost the size of the small horses their father made them ride.

"Direwolf…" Bennard murmured.

"He is real!" said Rickard.

Lord Stark let out a light laugh. "I told you there was a boy your age with a terrible direwolf in these lands."

"Well, anyway, I see the wolf is well." He said this surprisingly without seeking any further information about what had happened.

Even Garren became a little cautious about that.

But he only saw Lord Stark begin turning his horse. "Let us go. We have a long road to Winterfell."

Then he turned his gaze to Jon.

"In the meantime, I wish you the best. This will not be the last time we see each other… especially you, boy."

"Whatever the future has in store for us, I want you to grow strong and make the North proud", he said mysteriously. After those words, he began turning his horse.

Benjen did not stay any longer than necessary after saying what he had to say and seeing with his own eyes the wolf that supposedly had been fatally wounded and now simply seemed to be there beside the boy as if nothing had happened.

Lord Stark simply left, and everyone else followed him, although they seemed cautious.

"What was that?", Ronan asked his brother, worried.

Garren looked at his son, who was innocently watching the backs of everyone leaving, with them still glancing back a few times at the small family that remained there.

"I do not know… but I feel it will not be the last time we see him", Garren finally said.

He knew that his son had caught Lord Stark's attention somehow.

He only hoped that it would not be something bad.
