Jiang Mo reacted instantly. “Run.”

These zombies had clearly evolved—they were no match for them.

She grabbed Qi Yuanyuan beside her and turned to run. The others quickly followed, scrambling toward the nearest rooms. In the chaos, Qi Yuanyuan was shoved, fell hard to the ground, and cried out.Full novel: Hothouse Flower? In just a second, someone stepped directly on her hand while running past.

Her face turned pale from the pain.

Jiang Mo was pushed far away. By the time she finally squeezed back to Qi Yuanyuan, the zombies had already surrounded them.

She had miscalculated.

Seeing a zombie about to lunge, Jiang Mo grabbed a nearby chair and smashed it forward. “Get up, now!”

Qi Yuanyuan scrambled to her feet and, copying Jiang Mo, picked up a chair and swung it at the zombies.

“Run!” Jiang Mo couldn’t believe it—after getting up, Qi Yuanyuan still wanted to fight. What a brave idiot.

Seeing her dazed expression, Jiang Mo grabbed her wrist, pushed open a random door, and rushed inside.

Coincidentally, Jiang Zhe was already there.

He raised a hand casually. “Hello. What a coincidence.”

Qi Yuanyuan: …

Everyone else was running for their lives, and he was still smiling.

What a psycho.

There weren’t just Jiang Zhe—there were three others in the room: two men and Zhu Ci.

Including them, there were six people total—and on the floor, a pool of sticky, foul-smelling liquid.

“This is Professor Hu’s room,” Qi Yuanyuan explained.

Jiang Mo carefully avoided the liquid. As she approached the bed, she suddenly noticed raindrops streaking down the window.

“It’s raining.”

Rain meant their situation just got worse.

Wind and rain lashed violently against the glass, like water being poured down in sheets. Trails of water snaked down the window, only to be swept away again by the downpour.

Outside the door, zombies slammed against it with shrill, brutal force. The wooden door shook violently.

Qi Yuanyuan shrank behind Jiang Mo. “They’re coming in…”

Crash—!

Glass shattered behind them. Fragments cut across pale skin.

Jiang Mo snapped back to reality. Just before a zombie’s arm could grab her neck, Jiang Zhe suddenly pulled her aside.

The zombie’s hand brushed past her.

Her heart pounded violently. For a moment, she couldn’t recover. Fear welled up uncontrollably, reddening her eyes.

Jiang Zhe glanced back at her and smiled gently. “Pretty reliable, right?”

Across the room, Qi Yuanyuan suddenly screamed, “Ah! They’re inside!”

Jiang Mo turned—one green, slick zombie had already torn part of the wooden door open, its arm reaching inside.

She quickly retreated left. Fortunately, the hotel windows weren’t very large, so the zombies outside still needed time to climb in.

The three men stood in front, blocking. Jiang Mo had Zhu Ci on her left and Qi Yuanyuan on her right. She scanned the room quickly, organizing what they could use.

“There’s alcohol in the cabinet.”

Jiang Zhe froze for a second before understanding. The cabinet was nearby—but they feared the zombies might break through the shattered glass at any moment.

Everyone was afraid.

Even though the three men stood in front out of instinct and responsibility, their trembling legs gave them away.

Jiang Mo clenched her teeth, rushed forward, grabbed matches from the counter along the way.

“I’ll deal with the window. Jiang Zhe, block the door with the sofa!”

Jiang Zhe didn’t hesitate anymore. The three men quickly shoved the sofa against the door.

Jiang Mo splashed alcohol onto the zombie, struck a match, and threw it.

In an instant, flames burst across the zombie’s body.

The surrounding zombies instinctively recoiled.

Jiang Mo stared for two seconds. “They’re afraid of fire?”

“Jiang Zhe!”

He turned back. “There’s nothing else to block it with!”

The luxury room had limited furniture—they’d already used most of it on the door.

The alcohol was running out. Jiang Mo grew anxious. “The bed—take off the mattress, use the wooden frame!”

Qi Yuanyuan rushed to help. Together with Jiang Zhe, they stripped the bedding and flipped the mattress.

She glanced at Zhu Ci, who still stood frozen.

“Help already!”

One man held the door, another assisted Jiang Mo—only Zhu Ci stood there, stunned.

Fortunately, before the alcohol ran out, the three of them managed to lift and wedge the bed frame against the window.

For the moment, they were safe.

Jiang Zhe and Qi Yuanyuan both let out a breath. Zhu Ci collapsed to the floor, hands trembling.

“Thank god…” Qi Yuanyuan panted. Her body hadn’t caught up with the sudden release of tension—her hands still shook uncontrollably as she leaned on the bedframe.

She instinctively turned to look at Jiang Mo.

Jiang Mo crouched on the floor, her lashes lowered. In the end, she couldn’t hold it back—large tears fell.

Qi Yuanyuan had always thought Jiang Mo cried easily. Even changing a bandage had brought tears to her eyes.

A little pain. A little fear. And she’d cry.

Especially if someone scolded her—her tears flowed like a broken faucet.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Amid the zombies’ howls outside, several gunshots suddenly rang out.

The despair in the six people’s eyes lit up instantly.

After exchanging glances, they shouted toward the door, “Is it rescue?!”

No answer—just more gunshots. Then, a knock.

“Comrades, we are the Third District Army. How many people inside? Are there zombies outside the window?”

The two boys closest to the door immediately moved the furniture aside.

“Six people! Zombies outside!”

The door was quickly opened.

A stern man in green military gear stood there, holding a submachine gun. His expression was cold and resolute. He fired several shots, killing the zombies outside, then turned and said, “Bangzi, we’ve got people here.”

The moment the door opened, Jiang Mo instinctively looked outside.

She didn’t see the person she wanted.

Her gaze lowered, and her heart slowly filled with disappointment.

The rescue had arrived.

But what about him?

Even though she knew it was unlikely, she couldn’t stop herself from wondering—why hadn’t Lu Yanci come?

He knew she was afraid of these things. He had promised to protect her forever.

But now…

When she needed him most, he wasn’t there.

She understood the reality—this wasn’t a novel. No one could cross thousands of miles through danger.

She knew that.

But she still couldn’t stop hoping.

“Captain Lu.”

Hearing the name, Jiang Mo instinctively looked up toward the door.

A man leaned in and whispered to the captain.

Her eyes dimmed again.

Jiang Zhe, who had been watching her, raised a brow. “You know someone?”

Though he spoke softly, the two soldiers at the door heard him. They glanced over.

After a brief pause, Captain Lu asked, “Do you know someone named Jiang Mo?”

Everyone in the room turned to look at her.

Curiosity. Confusion. Shock.

Jiang Mo stood up, hope flickering in her eyes. “You’re looking for me?”

Captain Lu looked surprised but quickly picked up his military communicator.

“Reporting to Commander—you’ve found her. Fifteenth floor, room 1524.”

“I’m on my way. Captain Lu, please ensure her safety.”

The voice wasn’t quiet.

Jiang Mo recognized it instantly—and the urgency in it.

Lu Min subconsciously tightened his grip on the communicator.

Why did he suddenly feel nervous?

The line stayed open. Wind noise came through, along with hurried footsteps—someone was moving fast, bumping into things along the way.

While Jiang Mo stood quietly—

Lu Min discreetly studied her.

She looked delicate, almost fragile. Beautiful beyond words—especially her clear, innocent eyes.

The kind of purity rarely seen, even in peaceful times.

No wonder the commander was so anxious.

If he had a girlfriend like this, he’d probably lose sleep too.

In fact, the commander hadn’t slept these past few days.

While Lu Min observed her, Jiang Mo suddenly swayed slightly—her emotions had just surged, and now, as things calmed, dizziness hit her.

Her vision blurred.

Qi Yuanyuan immediately noticed and supported her arm. “What’s wrong?”

She checked her pulse and was shocked. “High fever! This bad—why didn’t you say anything?”

Lu Min stepped closer, his tall figure casting a shadow.

“What’s wrong with Miss Jiang?”

Qi Yuanyuan looked up at him—his face steady, trustworthy—and answered instinctively:

“She’s had a fever for days. It was mild before, but now it’s suddenly high.”

At the mention of a low-grade fever, Lu Min’s expression changed.

He glanced at Jiang Mo thoughtfully.

Then—

“Commander.”

The General Commander of the military command—

Lu Yanci.

The moment Qi Yuanyuan saw him, one thought flashed in her mind:

Damn. He’s insanely handsome. And tall.

Not the trendy, pretty-boy type—but powerful, commanding.

A mix of wild strength and refined sharpness.

If judged by modern standards—dangerously attractive.

He commanded attention just by standing there.

Qi Yuanyuan glanced at Jiang Mo.

Could someone like Jiang Mo handle a man like that?

More like—she’d be completely wrapped around his finger.

“Yaoyao,” Lu Yanci strode quickly to Jiang Mo. The joy in his eyes instantly turned to worry. He gently held her, lowering his gaze to meet hers. “It’s me. Yaoyao.”

Hearing his familiar voice, Jiang Mo’s blurry vision cleared.

Her eyes reddened instantly.

“Why did you come so late…”

“So late…”

All the grievance of these past days burst out at once. Her face crumpled as she cried.

Gone was the calm composure from before.

Lu Yanci pulled her into his arms, his voice soft with guilt.

“My fault. I came too late. You’ve suffered.”

“I’m sorry, Yaoyao…”

Beside them, Lu Min’s jaw practically hit the floor.

Guys… who understands this?

When the commander gets gentle—it’s terrifying.
