Chapter 18 - 17 - Tensions at Court (2)

House of The Dragon:The Rise of the Emperor of the Seven Kingdoms

Knowing she had to fight for the happiness of her daughter and grandson, Alysanne wasted no time and went to find her husband. And surprisingly, after asking the Kingsguard for information, she found him in the Great Hall, sitting on the Iron Throne.

Seeing her husband’s expressionless face, Alysanne knew Jaehaerys was in a bad mood. Which was not rare, especially after dealing with the disagreements of the nobles and trying to reconcile some arrogant fools.

"Alysanne," Jaehaerys spoke, looking at his wife/sister; his hard gaze softened, though only a little. "It is rare for you to come to the Great Hall."

Alysanne looked at her husband sitting on the monstrosity of twisted steel and swords with a calm gaze. She truly did not like seeing her husband on that throne, for after Jaehaerys became king, he began to care more about the throne than his own family.

"Gael is in love," Alysanne was direct with her words. "She loves Maekar."

As soon as she finished speaking, Ryam, who was below the staircase leading to the Iron Throne, felt that things would get complicated. The king had just visited Baelon and left furious, and now, the queen wanted to betroth the king’s last daughter to Maekar.

A chilly and hair-raising laugh escaped Jaehaerys’s lips. The image of Maekar appeared in his mind; the boy was smiling gently, but in his eyes, that smile was pure sarcasm.

"He truly wastes no time. He has been in King’s Landing for less than a week and has already won my daughter’s heart."

Alysanne’s eyes narrowed; she knew things had not ended as she expected. This was because she saw the cold expression on her husband’s face.

"Gael will marry one of Lord Lannister’s sons," Jaehaerys spoke in a hard and unquestionable tone; his violet eyes seemed to glow with a touch of coldness.

Alysanne’s eyes also turned cold, and she insisted, "I ask that you reconsider, my king."

Alysanne did not even call Jaehaerys by name, showing how irritated she was at that moment. She already knew the purpose of Jaehaerys’s actions. It was to force Maekar to do something that could give a reason to exile him!

However, she could not believe that to exile Maekar, Jaehaerys would sacrifice his own daughter.

"There is no room for discussion; Gael will marry whom I choose," Jaehaerys spoke in a cold tone.

Ryam was sweating; on one side was the king, on the other was the queen. He could see the Third Great Quarrel coming. And without Princess Maegelle, he could see that this would be a major battle between the couple.

"Will you use your daughter in your malicious and petty plans?" Alysanne asked in a calm tone, but the coldness in her voice could be heard by anyone.

"I do not know what you are talking about, my queen," Jaehaerys looked at Alysanne and spoke in an indifferent tone.

"You think you can use my daughter and I will stand still?" Alysanne asked in a tone that gradually became icy and chilling.

"Ser Ryam, escort the queen to her quarters. She is not permitted to leave until further orders," Jaehaerys ordered in a cold and indifferent tone.

"If you touch me, I will feed you to Silverwing," Alysanne looked at Ryam and spoke in a deadly tone.

Ryam swallowed hard; he had not the slightest doubt that Alysanne would truly order Silverwing to devour him.

Looking once more at her husband, Alysanne turned and left the Great Hall with her cane. No one dared touch the queen, not even the Kingsguard.

Jaehaerys looked at his wife with a touch of pain in his gaze, but that pain turned into determination. Maekar’s request to Baelon had already touched a line that no one could cross.

Closing his eyes, he simply focused on his plans.

Thirty minutes later, in Alysanne’s room, Maekar received the news with a calm and deep look. There was an amused smile on his lips.

Looking at the pale Gael, Maekar held her hand and spoke in a calm tone. "Don’t worry, Gael. You are my wife and no one else’s."

"Besides, I want to see if Lord Lannister has balls big enough to leave Casterly Rock and dare come to King’s Landing," Maekar added in an icy and murderous tone.

Of course, he wouldn’t personally kill the Lord of Casterly Rock, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t cause trouble in the Westerlands with his helpers in the Riverlands.

Maekar hadn’t spent so much time in the Riverlands doing nothing. He had adopted orphans and bastards and created an assassin and espionage organization called the Children of Blood. As a modern person, how could he not know how strong the power of information and espionage was?

As for the chaos this act would cause, he didn’t care in the slightest. This was the era when House Targaryen was at its strongest, with adult dragons. Rebellion? Sorry, do you have any fire resistance?

Maekar was not Jaehaerys, who did not burn Oldtown after the Faith of the Seven dared to try to assassinate his own wife. If it were him, he would have burned that city until nothing was left but ruins and ashes.

Alysanne frowned hearing the implications in Maekar’s words. "You will only cause more trouble by killing Lord Lannister and his son."

In her eyes, Maekar would mount Bahamut and burn them both. She, obviously, did not know of the hidden forces in the Riverlands.

"Don’t worry, Grandmother," Maekar said in a confident tone. "I want to see who will dare try to marry Gael after I kill all the suitors."

Whomever Jaehaerys dared to name, they would die before even reaching King’s Landing; of that he would make sure. Since Jaehaerys wanted to play the Game of Thrones, he would play too.

Despite Maekar’s murderous and cold nature, Gael had never felt so happy in her life. She hugged Maekar and kissed his cheek with a look completely in love and full of tenderness.

Alysanne didn’t know where Maekar got so much confidence in killing so many people without anyone discovering anything, but seeing the boy’s calm look, she showed a deep gaze and asked nothing. If the boy had confidence, she would also trust Maekar.

Either way, Maekar could flee with Gael to Essos, so things wouldn’t get out of control. This could also be a major blow to Jaehaerys’s reputation and to the noble houses that dared enter this dangerous game.

"Gael, go claim Dreamfyre," Alysanne said in a calm tone. "I will make Jaehaerys understand that my bones are still hard."

Gael nodded her head and left the room beside Maekar.

"Rose," Alysanne called her personal servant. She was an old woman, wearing servant’s clothes, with a gentle and warm smile on her lips.

"Yes, my queen," Rose asked in a respectful tone.

"My husband needs to work hard to sharpen his mind. Ask the ladies to start fighting for the smallest of reasons, however trivial it may be," Alysanne spoke in a deep tone. She would make the ladies fight, involving their husbands, causing great chaos in the court.

Rose’s eyes narrowed; she nodded her head and bowed, leaving the room with a respectful expression.

Looking out the window, Alysanne’s eyes were colder than ever. She was not a strengthless old woman; she was the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, having reigned as long as Prince Jaehaerys. Although she did not have the king’s military power, she had the power of the queen’s court.

If Jaehaerys thought he could use her daughter without consequences, he was very mistaken. She had lost many daughters and sons to Jaehaerys’s decisions; she would not lose another daughter!
