"Sir, do you intend to take all these books?" The woman at the bookstore in downtown London looked surprised at the two enormous piles of books the boy was carrying to the counter with a certain ease.
Certainly, that was an unusual quantity that her customers usually bought, especially considering they were not entertainment books and popular novels, as usually happened, but rather technical books — books universities would request for their young students. And now a boy was simply buying a bunch of them.
Biochemistry, mechanics, medicine, human anatomy, physics, organic chemistry, microbiology, pharmacology, genetics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronics, astronomy, astrophysics, advanced mathematics, human physiology, pathology, immunology, metallurgy, hydraulics, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, material science, neurology, surgery, radiology, and computing.
There were many titles, some of which Severus already possessed on the topics, but he wanted to buy even more because he intended to read everything he could in his final days before Hogwarts and also throughout the entire school year. It would be welcome reading about the Muggle world and the fields they had developed.
"Of course. You can add up all the books, I'm going to buy them all," Severus said.
The woman stared at him, but nodded while adding up all the books. In the end, it came to a total of 200 euros, which was not such an absurd amount for the time.
"Here." Severus did not even have trouble paying. The woman stared at him once more, checking whether the bills were fake or real, they were real and in the end, money was money.
Severus placed the two piles over his hands and began leaving the store in a comical manner, using telekinesis to keep the two piles lifted, while people watched, wondering what kind of strength he must have to be able to carry that, when in truth he was using magic.
He left the store and quickly went to the alley, placing all the books inside his bag.
After that, he left using apparition, going to a scrapyard full of broken cars in a corner outside the city.
Upon entering the place, he found a man playing cards with another while they smoked calmly, until they noticed him.
Both stared at Severus approaching.
"Hello. I'm here to buy some unused engines," Severus said.
The two men looked at each other before the larger one stood up and walked toward him.
"You want to buy engines, kid?"
"Yes. Actually, I want to buy three engines."
Severus asked for that because he wanted to study mechanics. Not just theoretical studies — he wanted to see real engines, combustion engines and the power they possessed.
"Come with me," the man said.
He approached a place protected only by a roof. There were no walls, all that protected it was the roof, full of parts with several engines separated from the cars at the location.
"We have V6 engines here, but I also got a V8 from a beautiful American machine. Feel free to look around. I charge 30 dollars for each 6-cylinder one and 50 for the V8, what do you want? By the way, do you even have that kind of money, kid?" he asked.
Severus simply pulled 110 euros from his pocket and handed them to him. "I'll take 2 V6s and that V8."
The old man nodded. "You're going to need a cart. I don't do deliveries."
"Don't worry about that. I brought a cart."
"What the hell...?" The man barely took his eyes off the boy only to look at the engines and then stared back at Severus. Now, there was a cart beside him.
He could swear there had not been any cart there before, and he looked at the boy suspiciously.
Severus kept a calm expression.
"Alright, but I'll help you load them." With that, together they loaded the engines, which were extremely heavy. Severus watched and began leaving the scrapyard.
As soon as he was out of the men's sight, he removed the cart, which was merely a rock transformed through transfiguration, and lifted the three engines into the air. Then he began applying shrinking magic. They became ten times smaller, and Severus placed them in his bag before apparating to the dragon reserve.
He quickly took out the engines, knowing the spell would not last long, and let them drop beside the house.
"Now, somehow, I need to take this to Hogwarts..." he muttered, looking at the three engines lying on the ground.
"Maybe I need to build a ring..." Muttering to himself, he merely placed a message telling no one to touch the engines and apparated once again to London.
He began walking through the city's electronics stores, buying old radios and TVs, mainly processing boards. He wanted to study everything about conduction, electricity, engines, and other things the Muggles had developed.
He still could not believe that the magical world had simply stabilized itself without wanting to know what the Muggles were developing.
He knew there was the subject of Muggle Studies at Hogwarts, and it was a joke, since they only gave basic instructions. They taught nothing real.
The Muggles had developed so many fields that the magical world lacked, and the only thing they taught about them was what a telephone was or gave a superficial explanation of what an airplane or a car was. Nothing about how they functioned.
Despite that, he also understood that he could not completely blame the wizards. After all, they performed magic since childhood and never questioned how they could do that, how it worked, or how it affected the environment. They simply thought they could do it... and so it was.
Ridiculous.
Severus would not think that way. He would do what no one else would be capable of doing: with his mind he would revolutionize every possible area of the wizarding world.
In any case, he left London and returned to the reserve.
He found Lady Mianna standing there, talking to the new intern who would take Severus's place. The man was no older than twenty-five and looked quite nervous. Part of his clothes was burned. Clearly, he had not done very well with the dragons at first.
But, being honest with himself, Severus knew he could not simply compare his past life's experience with dragons to that of others, but rather his magical blood. That gave him an absurd advantage. It would be unfair to compare them.
"Severo, you're here... What is this?" she asked, looking at all those metals and cylinders lying on the grass.
"Muggle car engines, if you want to know," Severus said, while beginning to drop more things that were returning to their original size.
"Wow... this looks old... Why would you want all this?" she could not help but complain.
"Studies for Hogwarts. Nothing major. Lady Mianna, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to leave this here for now, but by tonight I'll remove everything," Severus informed her.
She merely nodded.
Back again, the first thing he did was work on the rings. He began trying to place runes on them, now using silver, while failing several times, having to melt the metal, shape it again, and keep it deformed until it cooled.
Severus also turned his attention to potions more than he normally would.
Severus was already used to using telekinesis to make all his potions automatically, but now it was different... He intended to contribute a new type of potion. He may have started procrastinating on that, but now he would have no excuses.
Not when he was 8 years old when he began making those potions in the middle of the wolves' forest with only what he had, unlike now when he had an enormous laboratory where he could work easily.
Why had he still not worked on them?
He could have started developing these potions much earlier, but he did not have the money to buy certain materials and ended up spending on many other things. After all, he needed to create the most potent versions and, while reading about the ingredients, he was trying to make an effect similar to the potions he created in the other world.
And now, he was willing to begin developing potions that would improve both his physical and mental aspects. It was no wonder he possessed all that strength in his past life — much of it came from enhancement through potions since he was a child, his wives, children, and descendants, even the royal guard had access to them to become more powerful. His longevity had derived from them.
He quickly began separating some ingredients, mixing them into the liquid and isolating only the most important parts.
It was easy to use telekinesis to crush and separate everything in detail, even in ways normal hands could never achieve.
He also altered some plants before adding them to the potion, removing their negative effects, because the potion he was making would naturally have a certain poison for his body. With the tendency for it to be even more powerful than the potions from the other world, and being able to remove the negative effects, there was no reason not to carry it out.
With that, he left the cauldron working by itself and once again returned to working on the rings.
He tried to recreate the effects one more time.
It took some time, but finally...
Three, four attempts. None of them worked.
He tried once more, while already separating the finished potion, setting the liquid aside to return to working on it.
With the second set of silver rings, he finally succeeded. In the last ring, he had created a space of 100 centimeters.
Severus smiled. He had finally managed to create a spatial ring. "Good... I'll try to replicate the others at Hogwarts."
He had built the world's first storage ring.
He destroyed the poorly made rings and stored all of them inside the very ring he placed on his finger.
Afterward, he went to the potions in the flasks, used the ring and made them disappear inside it, while observing carefully without breaking the containers from the pull.
"This is practical..." he thought, satisfied, before leaving the laboratory.
It was already night.
"Severus, want to eat some of this cake?" Alastair was in the kitchen when Severus walked past him.
"No, thank you. I still intend to do one more thing outside of here."
"Always mysterious..." he said, sighing. Severus did not care and continued outside.
First, he picked up all the engines and the other objects he had left outside the house, making everything enter the ring.
Then, he apparated and went to the place where he found the phoenix.
She lifted her head in her nest and flew toward him.
"So, I came to say goodbye," Severus declared, making the phoenix tilt her head to the side in confusion.
Severus realized she still had not understood him, so he entered the fire creature's mind, transmitting his words. She let out a protest while he grimaced.
"What was that for? I have to go back to studying. I won't be able to come here anymore." The phoenix protested selfishly, as though Severus should remain there for her.
He merely shook his head and created a flame. The phoenix immediately calmed down and went toward it, as though she had finally seen the favorite delicacy of her life, beginning to devour it.
Severus watched the scene until she finally seemed satisfied.
After that, he left the place, with the phoenix flying back to her nest to sleep, as she always did after eating his flames.
He returned to the reserve to have dinner together with the others and afterward went to his room. No longer needing to work at the bar, he spent the night reading and studying.
The dream from a few nights ago returned.
Once again, he saw a block of ice and heard a plea for help, as though something was begging to be freed from inside the ice, there was a trapped blue glow. Severus could see the outline of wings, it was a blue bird.
"What is that...?" he muttered as he woke up the following morning.
He joined the others.
"Tell me... is there any map that shows the distance of the frozen islands to the north of the island of Great Britain?" he asked Mianna.
Everyone stopped eating and looked at him. Mianna raised an eyebrow at him. "Yes. Why do you want to know?"
"It's just so I can have some geographical knowledge," Severus replied naturally. He had not bought map books, which was a stupid mistake.
"Well... Then let me get a map." Lady Mianna picked up a book and showed Severus some islands above Scotland.
"I see..." Severus murmured.
"You wouldn't be thinking about going there, would you?" Mianna could not help but ask. Whenever that brat asked something, it was usually because he planned to do something.
"Maybe." Severus smiled, completely omitting the dream.
When he finished having breakfast together with everyone, he did not go to work that day either, especially since he was already free, with only a few days left before leaving.
Instead, he simply began teleporting north, following the same route he had used to arrive at the reserve.
He kept teleporting until he finally reached the coast of Great Britain at the far north.
"Two days ago I studied water molecules and their liquid state over the last few days, through Muggle knowledge... Maybe I can do it..." Severus thought while beginning to walk toward the beach and the water.
What he wanted was to do something no one else knew how to do. He wanted to walk on water.
He concentrated magic into his feet, but with the first step his leg immediately sank into the water, without any success.
Severus sighed. It seemed that would not be so easy, but there were still possibilities. "I'll try another way..."
Severus looked toward the horizon. Then he apparated, falling directly into the middle of the sea from a few meters in the air, before casting a Glacius spell so powerful that when it struck the water's surface, it created an enormous frozen block like a platform.
He fell on top of it and it wobbled slightly, a smile appeared on Severus's lips.
When he looked back, he realized he was already at least two kilometers away from the coast. He focused once again on the horizon and teleported again, falling over the water and creating another platform of ice.
Now he had already traveled three kilometers that time. Once again he looked north and apparated again.
And so, he kept traveling across the sea, using apparition and blocks of ice so he would not sink in the middle of the ocean.
His apparition improved when he managed to advance five kilometers at a time, reaching the limit of the horizon and traveling faster and faster over the next few hours.
The weather began to cool rapidly.
He was entering the cold region, his objective was Iceland. It did not take long for him to realize he was getting close with the temperature dropping more and more. He was already in the middle of the sea...
He could say he had illegally left Great Britain, if the ministry knew where he was now, it would be problematic, but if nobody caught him, then everything was fine.
He teleported once again.
The cold naturally did not bother him. He possessed enough resistance to endure it.
He continued advancing while beginning to find blocks of ice floating in the sea.
Naturally, he kept going.
Until he finally found the first small frozen islands made entirely of ice. But he crossed all of them. None of those were the one he was looking for.
Until he felt something from that creature asking for help, it was about forty kilometers farther northwest!
After some more time, the island finally began to be seen on the horizon.
Severus knew it was from that country that the plea for help was coming. He traveled for some more time before finally arriving in Iceland.
