“Let’s find an empty compartment.” I said, moving down the aisle, looking for empty compartments, while Daphne followed right behind me.
Finding an empty compartment, I slid the door open and the two of us entered, with Daphne closing the door behind her.
“Which house do you think you will be sorted in?” Daphne asked as she sat opposite to me.
“Ravenclaw or Gryffindor would be fine, but not Slytherin and Hufflepuff. What about you?”
“What? Why not Slytherin? I mean Slytherin is cool too, both my parents were in Slytherin. And I think there’s a high chance that I will also go to Slytherin. So, if you join Slytherin, then we could be together in the same house.” Daphne said worriedly, trying to persuade me.
“It’s not that I don’t like Slytherin, but please, I know clearly from what you have told me that Slytherin is basically the hangout spot of all pure blood families, and I am a muggle born. Going to Slytherin would be nothing but asking for misery. Besides, aren’t Slytherin values ambition and cunningness? Not going to Slytherin seems far more cunning. Imagine calling yourself cunning then get sorted into a house where you are practically the first suspicion. The most Slytherin thing you could do is not going to Slytherin.” I said sagely, and looking from Daphne’s expression, she seemed…
convinced.
“T…That makes sense… The most cunning thing to do would really be… not going to Slytherin. So, which house shall we go to?” Daphne asked curiously.
But before I could answer her, the door of the compartment slid open, outside was a scrawny young boy, with green eyes, damaged round glasses, clothes a bit too large for him, carrying a large trunk behind him.
“Umm, I am sorry for disturbing, I thought this was empty.” The boy said politely.
“No worries, there is enough space, have a seat.” I smiled as I pointed towards the empty seat next to me, prompting him to sit.
“If you don’t mind, then thank you.” The boy smiled brightly as he moved in, placing his trunk and sitting next to me.
“Hello, I am Damien by the way, Damien Whitmore. And this is my friend, Daphne.”
“Greetings, I am Daphne Greengrass.” Daphne introduced herself too following me.
“Hello, I am Harry, Harry Potter.” The boy said with a smile.
“What??!!! You’re Harry Potter??” Daphne asked in surprise.
“So, how did you defeat… well, You-know-who?” Daphne asked excitedly, she did not expect that the first person she would meet on the Hogwarts express would be the savior of the wizarding world himself.
Although she was not a complete fangirl, but there was no denying that Harry’s reputation in the wizarding world was far greater than that of any celebrity.
“Well… I don’t really remember, but I do recall a lot of green flashes… But that is all, I don’t remember the fight at all.” Harry said a bit embarrassed.
“Holy… As expected of Harry Potter, I guess, the fight with Voldemort isn’t even worth remembering to him.” Daphne was blinded in her admiration.
“Daphne… have you considered the possibility that since he was just one year old at the time, he really doesn’t remember the fight at all…” I sighed helplessly, Wizards had far too little media, they spent their entire childhood listening stories about only a handful of figures.
“Exactly.” Harry nodded furiously supporting me.
“Really?” Daphne asked, somewhat disappointed.
“Yes.” Harry clarified.
“I think we can also remove Ravenclaw from the prospective houses for entry for us.” I stated.
“Huh, why?” Daphne asked confused.
“With that kind of brain, you are definitely not making the cut.” I smirked as I mocked her.
“You!!!” Daphne growled and jumped to punch at me.
“Hey Hey, Aren’t you a wizard? Why are you throwing punches? Those are muggle attacks, where are your manners!!” I shouted while mockingly defending from her attacks.
“So, Harry, Do you already know some powerful spells?” I asked him, as to not let him feel left out.
“Umm, no, actually, I did not know I was a wizard until recently. I don’t know any spell at all…” Harry said somewhat embarrassed.
“Oh, So you only recently learned about being a wizard? Same with me! I am muggle born, so imagine my surprise when I received that letter. I first thought someone was playing an elaborate prank, but no, it was genuine.” I said with a laugh.
“Really, For me, my uncle did not believe it all, he did not even let me read it, and put it all in the fireplace, but then, Hagrid came and told us everything, and he also took me to Diagon alley.” Harry said excitedly.
“Hey, your uncle seems rather… not very nice.” I commented.
“You don’t have to tell me about that.” Harry sighed.
“You sure have it rough, buddy.” I said patting his shoulders.
“So, both of you are also new to the magical world?” Harry asked, this was the first time he had talked like this to people his own age, due to Dudley, no one dared to be friends with him before.
“I am new, but not her, she is as magical as it gets.” I said, pointing at Daphne.
“That’s right, I am from the Greengrass family, one of the most ancient and noble houses of Wizarding Britain, so if you have any doubts, ask me, don’t ask this guy, he knows nothing and is an idiot.” Daphne said proudly.
“Really? Last I checked you didn’t even know half as many spells as me.” I mocked her back with a smile, not taking her provocation to mind at all.
“Tchh, those are all useless spells, besides… You don’t know important things, like riding a broom.” Daphne defended weakly, as she focused her attention back to Primordial Destroyer, not wanting to continue the conversation.
And once again, the door of the compartment was opened, it was a boy with red hair, face full of freckles and a dirty smudge on his nose.
“Hey, is there an empty seat? all the other compartments are full…” The boy asked pleadingly.
