Lin Su-su dabbed the tears from her eyes.

“Miss Xia, I know my past with A-Jin has always weighed on you, but those things are all behind us…”

Must this past be so unforgivable?”

Her pupils trembled faintly.

“Will you only be satisfied… if I die?”

Xia Xing lifted her head and smiled.

She spoke softly, “Very well, then you can go to hell.”

Gu Huaijin’s face darkened sharply.

“Xia Xing!”

Xia Xing let out a scoff.

“There’s no point pulling that long face, Gu Huaijin.

Miss Lin was the one who said she wanted to die, not me.

Is it someone else’s fault if she chooses to take her own life?”

Lin Su-su’s eyes flew wide open, and big tears rolled down her cheeks.

She abruptly stood up from the wheelchair and rushed toward the nearby window.

“If Miss Xia wants me dead, then I will die!”

“Su-su, don’t do anything foolish!” Zhuang Yi panicked and hurried to stop her.

Gu Huaijin also blocked Lin Su-su, his expression cold and stern.

“Lin Su-su, what are you doing?!”

Lin Su-su looked half-mad, screaming hysterically.

“I know Miss Xia hates me.

If she hates me this much, just let me die!

Let go!

All of you, let me die!”

Gu Huaijin pressed his thin lips together tightly.

“Calm down.”

Lin Su-su’s tears streamed freely.

She could no longer listen to reason, shouting, “I never should have come back, never should have appeared before you!”

Lin Su-su’s suicidal outburst threw the ward into total chaos.

A crisp, icy laugh cut clearly through the commotion.

“Since Mr.

Gu and Miss Lin don’t want you to die, then don’t die… How about you go eat dirt instead?”

Xia Xing looked at Lin Su-su with a bright, taunting smile.

“Miss Lin seems so obedient to my words.

Surely you won’t refuse?”

Zhuang Yi flew into a rage and pointed angrily at Xia Xing.

“Xia Xing, you’ve gone too far!”

Xia Xing feigned confusion.

“When I told her to die, she was ready to die.

Since Miss Lin hangs on every word I say, I’m being merciful now and sparing her life.

Xia Xing paused, as if a thought dawned on her.

“Oh, I see.

So you’d rather she die after all?”

“Xia Xing, you—you…” Zhuang Yi’s eyes burned red.

He ground his teeth, too furious to form another word.

Gu Huaijin’s features turned dark and menacing.

“Xia Xing, know when to stop.”

Xia Xing let out a cold laugh, her expression hardening.

“You’re the ones who need to stop!”

She stared sharply at Gu Huaijin, her gaze sharp as a blade.

“I haven’t come to settle scores with you two yet, and here you are, barging into my ward to raise hell!

Gu Huaijin, have you heard the saying?

The one who provokes first is the guilty one!”

“Not only did I not push Lin Su-su, even if I had, she deserved it!”

Gu Huaijin’s face turned cold.

He was about to speak when the ward door swung open suddenly.

“What’s going on?

Why is there such a racket?” A deep, magnetic male voice came from the doorway.

Seeing so many people inside the room, Shen Yeming froze for a moment.

When he spotted tearful Lin Su-su, furious Zhuang Yi and dark-faced Gu Huaijin, he quickly grasped what was happening.

He smiled calmly.

“I’m sorry.

The doctor said Xiaoxing still needs quiet rest.

You can discuss this after she’s discharged.”

With that, he ignored the others and set the thermos he had brought onto the table.

“Xiaoxing, you haven’t eaten yet.

I brought breakfast.”

Xia Xing said gratefully, “Thank you, Mr.

Shen.”

Zhuang Yi sneered at the sight of the unfamiliar man visiting Xia Xing.

“Well, well.

You haven’t even divorced A-Jin, and you’ve already found your next man.

This is a hospital.

No matter how desperate you are, you ought to have some decency and keep it private.”

Zhuang Yi hesitated, aware Gu Huaijin was present, and did not push his insult too far.

He spat contemptuously, “Xia Xing, have you no shame?”

Ignoring Zhuang Yi, Shen Yeming looked at Gu Huaijin with an amused half-smile.

“Mr.

Gu, even if you dislike Xiaoxing, there is no need to gang up with your beloved and her friend to bully your own wife when she is injured, hospitalized and at her weakest.”

A frost seemed to settle over Gu Huaijin’s handsome face.

Shen knows she is my wife, why come early in the morning to shower a married woman with attention?”

Shen Yeming was the current heir to the Shen Group.

He had lived in Country L for a long time.

He had a five-year-old child whose mother’s identity remained unknown.

Rumour claimed the boy was an illegitimate son, for no one had ever heard that Shen Yeming was married.

The Shen Group was a powerful conglomerate comparable to the Gu Group.

Over the years, Shen Group had favoured partnerships with enterprises in Z Country, seemingly planning to expand its business here.

Shen Yeming smiled faintly and met Gu Huaijin’s gaze.

“Mr.

Gu, since you know you are Xiaoxing’s husband, why do you not care whether your wife is hurt or has eaten?

Instead, you bring your beloved to parade in front of her to show off.”

“If you won’t care for Xiaoxing, someone else will.”

Zhuang Yi shouted again, unable to contain himself.

“We came here to question this murderer Xia Xing!

She deliberately crashed into Su-su and nearly killed her!”

Shen Yeming shot Zhuang Yi a lazy glance, his voice unhurried.

“You are not police.

You have no right to interrogate Xiaoxing.

Bring your questions to the authorities.

Xiaoxing needs rest.

Everyone please leave.”

Zhuang Yi objected.

“Hey, who are you?

What gives you the right to kick us out?!

We still haven’t settled the score for her knocking Su-su and me to the ground!”

“Xiaoxing knocked you two over?” Shen Yeming looked as though he had heard a ridiculous joke.

“Why don’t you ask the doctor whether Xiaoxing, in her current condition, is even able to get out of bed to kick anyone?”

Though he spoke to Zhuang Yi, his eyes stayed fixed on Gu Huaijin.

“Her foot has no bone fracture, but there is a mild sprain.

She cannot get out of bed or exert any force for three days.”

A subtle smile tugged at Shen Yeming’s lips.

“Mr.

Gu, do you think a woman confined to a hospital bed, unable to stand, could have the strength to harm this gentleman and Miss Lin?”

“In other words, they could have dodged if they did not want to be kicked.

After all, Miss Lin only injured her hand, not her legs.”

“Oh.” As if something had just occurred to him, he added, “If Mr.

Gu does not believe me, you may send for the doctor to examine Xiaoxing’s foot wound.

Then you will know whether I am lying.”

Gu Huaijin’s dark eyes sank.

His sharp, profound gaze snapped toward Zhuang Yi.
