Xia Xing leaned back slightly.

“It was her who hit me.”

Xia Xing tilted her head to meet his cold, distant features.

“So you believe Miss Lin’s account?”

Gu Huaijin fell silent for several seconds.

“Su-su has no reason to hit you.”

“Do I have a reason to hit her?”

Gu Huaijin stared steadily at her, his black eyes deep and unfathomable like an abyss.

“Did you crash into Su-su deliberately?”

“No.”

A deathly hush settled over the ward once more.

After what felt like a long time, the man’s crisp, wine-cool voice echoed through the quiet room.

“Rest first.

I will get to the bottom of this.”

Xia Xing watched his retreating back without speaking.

Gu Huaijin did not press her further, not because he trusted her, but because he planned to hunt for evidence.

If he truly believed her, he would never have asked those questions just now.

Shortly after Gu Huaijin left, Xia Xing received a call from Jiang Panzhou.

“Xing’er, I heard you were in a car accident.

How are you?

Is it serious?”

Xia Xing’s brows stirred faintly.

“Senior brother, how did you find out?”

Jiang Panzhou’s voice was low.

“The story hit the hot search list this morning.

Xing’er, are you alright?”

“I’m fine, just some superficial wounds.

Nothing major.

I’ll probably be discharged in a day or two, don’t worry about me.”

“Alright.

Call me anytime you need my help.”

Jiang Panzhou wanted to get the trending post taken down for her.

Though he had shot to fame, he was a reclusive man who lived only for music and had built few connections.

When Xia Xing’s scandal blew up online, he had no way to remove it.

After hanging up, Xia Xing lay back on the bed to rest her eyes, mapping out her next moves.

Lin Su-su dared to act so recklessly; she must have prepared everything thoroughly.

Even the so-called witnesses were likely arranged long in advance.

Public opinion was already swirling.

Lin Su-su had laid careful plans and risked her own body to stage this accident…

This matter would not be easy to resolve.

With Lin Su-su repeatedly stirring up trouble, a peaceful separation between her and Gu Huaijin was all but impossible.

Just then, someone banged sharply on the ward door, producing a jarring racket.

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

Before Xia Xing could tell them to enter, the door was pushed open rudely.

Moments later, an infuriated Zhuang Yi walked in with Lin Su-su, her arm wrapped in bandages.

“Xia Xing, you murderer!” Zhuang Yi stormed inside, pointing at her and shouting without restraint.

“Last time Su-su fell into the water, you wriggled out of blame with sophistry.

Let’s see how you talk your way out of this!”

Xia Xing’s expression turned icy, her tone sharp.

“Get out of my room!”

“You’re the one who should leave!” Zhuang Yi snatched the water cup from the table and hurled its contents straight at Xia Xing.

“Xia Xing, mark my words.

A-Jin will never let you off easily this time!

You murderer, prepare to go to prison!”

Still injured, Xia Xing could not dodge in time, and the liquid splashed all over her face.

“You dared to harm Su-su.

Even if I beat you to death, A-Jin won’t utter a word of blame.

He’d cheer me on!

Today, I’ll teach you a lesson for A-Jin, you vicious killer!”

With that, he advanced toward her aggressively.

Yet the moment he neared the hospital bed, Xia Xing suddenly kicked him hard in the stomach.

Zhuang Yi lost his balance and crashed heavily into the side table.

All the cups on the table clattered to the floor, shattering into countless shards.

Beside them, Lin Su-su instinctively tried to prop Zhuang Yi up.

But one of her hands was injured and lacked strength, and she was pulled down with him onto the floor.

Lin Su-su fell right amid the broken fragments.

At that very instant, the ward door swung open.

A tall, upright man stepped inside.

He halted at the sight of the chaos in the room.

“What happened here?”

Zhuang Yi was also on the ground, wincing in pain.

Seeing Gu Huaijin, his anger flared completely.

He scrambled to his feet and pointed at Xia Xing.

“A-Jin!

This woman pretending to be weak from the car crash just kicked Su-su and me to the ground!

If she isn’t faking it, then what is she doing?!”

This cruel woman pushed her down on purpose.

Her intentions are utterly malicious!”

Gu Huaijin glanced at Xia Xing, who appeared unharmed, then at Lin Su-su sprawled on the floor.

His brows tightened almost imperceptibly.

Lin Su-su’s hands and limbs had been cut by the shards, leaving long gashes.

Blood trickled from the wounds, a harrowing sight.

Lin Su-su did not cry out in pain.

She fought back tears, struggling to pull herself up from the floor.

Her injured arm hindered her.

She strained for a long time yet failed to stand, only cutting herself more on the fragments.

Gu Huaijin’s gaze sharpened.

He lifted Lin Su-su into his arms.

He turned to Zhuang Yi, his voice cool and detached.

“Have someone clean up the shards on the floor.

I’ll take Su-su for treatment first.”

Zhuang Yi still wanted to hurl more insults at Xia Xing, but she had already closed her eyes, cold and indifferent as if she were merely an onlooker.

Zhuang Yi let out a snort and called staff to clear the broken pieces.

It was not out of concern that Xia Xing might step on the glass.

He knew full well that once Gu Huaijin finished treating Lin Su-su, they would come back to settle scores with Xia Xing.

…

An hour later, Gu Huaijin and Lin Su-su returned indeed.

Lin Su-su had been able to walk before, but after what had just happened, she was now in a wheelchair.

Xia Xing shot them one quick glance, then looked down at her phone again as if none of this concerned her.

Seeing her frigid indifference, Gu Huaijin frowned slightly.

“Xia Xing, don’t you have anything to explain?”

Xia Xing’s reply was simple.

“No.”

Zhuang Yi, pushing the wheelchair, burst out angrily.

“She did all of this, of course she has nothing to say for herself!

“From deliberately crashing into Su-su’s car to shoving her to the ground… it shows just how vicious this woman’s heart is!”

Gu Huaijin looked at her.

“Xia Xing, is that true?”

Xia Xing did not lift her head.

“Believe whatever you want.”

Anyone could hear the dismissive apathy in her tone.

Tears welled up in Lin Su-su’s eyes.

“I know Miss Xia has always misunderstood my relationship with A-Jin.

I can explain everything to you… A-Jin and I are not what you think…”

Xia Xing’s brows stirred.

She looked toward Lin Su-su with a faint, knowing smile.

“Miss Lin, are you certain?”
