Bo Yin’s words made Wuning’s nose sting with emotion.
She repeated earnestly and sincerely, “…Don’t compare me to others, and don’t doubt my determination and attitude.”
Bo Yin gently closed his eyes, leaning forward to rest his forehead against the back of the girl’s hand. “Yes.”
Wuning’s cheeks felt warm, and she belatedly realized she had been a bit too emotional just now. “Then, let’s not dwell on this issue anymore.”
There was nothing to it in the first place.
Bo Yin straightened up. “If you can recognize your own importance to us, then there’s no need to say more.”
“I don’t understand,” Wuning also raised her own question. “You always say I’m very important, but why?”
“From your perspective, I’ve only done what a Medic should do, and I haven’t even done it well. My B-grade Mental Power is just a drop in the bucket for you.”
This was also a doubt Wuning had when observing other worlds before.
Perhaps only those involved could truly understand.
Bo Yin gazed at the girl for a long time, a wave of emotion rising in his heart.
She was elusive, like a peculiar little bag, yet everything that drifted out of it was nothing but the finest things.
A refreshing little rain cloud, soft and gentle concern, playful and sincere little sounds, and harmless curiosity…
“Moreover, your attitude toward me changed too quickly. Like Eli—one moment he was glaring at me, and the next he was hugging me and acting spoiled.” Wuning recalled, beginning to ramble.
“We’ve known each other for less than two months. Am I really that important to you already?”
Bo Yin was once again charmed by this question, desperately holding back from kissing her.
After all, this was heart-to-heart talk time.
And he still had to maintain his image.
He licked his lips beneath his mask. “You must know that interstellar residents live for 200 years.”
“And for us, we have at most about five years left.”
Wuning froze.
Oh, damn, she had completely forgotten about that!
“And these five years are under the assumption of a natural death,” Bo Yin said softly.
“So, comparing these two months to five years, proportionally placed within 200 years, is no longer a short amount of time.”
Bo Yin held the girl’s hand, a gesture he seemed particularly fond of.
The leader spoke gently, his reassuring and steady demeanor hiding a craving and hunger concealed in the shadows.
“In the countdown of life, in the tolling of the death knell where we could lose our sanity completely to Dark Matter contamination at any moment, you actively came to our side—unafraid, unrepulsed, generously offering your Mental Power. How could we remain indifferent?”
“You are like a star traversing the darkness of the universe, enough to make us your orbit.”
Wuning listened, her mouth slightly agape, and it took her several minutes to snap back to reality. She sighed sincerely, “That’s so romantic.”
She had never imagined her efforts to win them over could elicit such a response.
…This feeling was truly novel and wonderful.
No wonder the Love Department had the most employees.
Bo Yin’s eyes curved into a smile. “Just speaking from the heart.”
He subtly admired the girl’s adorable expression—stunned and with slightly flushed cheeks.
Once he had admired enough, he softly concluded, “So, do you understand now?”
Wuning nodded obediently, still in a daze.
She truly wouldn’t dwell on their attitude issues anymore.
Bo Yin suddenly sighed.
“What’s wrong?” Wuning raised her hand to wipe the half-dried tear stains at the corner of her eyes. She hadn’t cried earlier, but it felt a bit itchy.
“I’m worried that after we die, you might mistakenly think other Polluted are as harmless as us, and get hurt because you don’t guard against them.” Bo Yin spoke softly.
Wuning first narrowed her eyes, suspecting she hadn’t heard correctly.
Wait, did this Polluted leader just use “harmless” to describe himself?
“Other Polluted would hurt me?” Wuning was confused again. “But don’t Polluted really need Medics?”
Bo Yin gently tucked the stray hair by her face behind her ear, explaining softly, “Dark Matter doesn’t choose who it pollutes. There are strong soldiers, and there are ordinary trainees.”
“There are good people with strong willpower, and there are naturally evil people born bad. But the interstellar world needs Polluted, so even evil ones won’t be restrained.”
Wuning slowly understood, her expression subtle. “Oh~ So you mean, even if there are other Polluted and troops on this warship, I shouldn’t be curious or contact them.”
The man blinked, his voice tinged with innocence. “I meant after we die, but there’s no problem cultivating safety awareness starting now.”
Wuning: “…”
She rolled her eyes to express her attitude.
Bo Yin wanted to kiss her again.
Thinking of this, the man casually brought up, “You gave Eli clothes. Did you bring enough for us too?”
“Why would I give you any?” Wuning was bewildered.
Don’t think she didn’t know—these guys had many face-covering styles, all kinds of masks.
“I said before that Medics should give Polluted they treat some items representing her personal meaning. I thought intimate clothing was one.” Bo Yin explained with slight surprise.
“It’s not?”
Wuning waved her hands anxiously in denial. “Of course not! It’s because none of you would lend him a mask. We couldn’t have Eli keeping his head down all the time.”
Bo Yin let out a soft “ah.” “Okay, I understand.”
The conversation temporarily ended. Wuning no longer occupied the medical room and returned to the room specially arranged for Medics.
After a while, Eli came in dejectedly, reluctantly returning the T-shirt that had nearly become rags.
He was already wearing the mask Bo Yin gave him.
Wuning glanced at it, slightly disgusted. What was the point of returning it to her if it couldn’t be worn anymore!
Eli didn’t want to return it either.
But compared to having others tear it apart, each taking a piece while he kept one, he’d rather return the whole thing to the girl.
No one gets to have it good.
Wuning simply took a knife and evenly divided the rags into five equal parts, putting the remaining scraps back in her bag.
Then she distributed the five cloth strips to Squad 191 one by one. “Now it’s fair, everyone has the same.”
“How is this the same? The part with your name embroidered is with the Major General.” Cook complained quietly while wrapping the cloth strip around his palm.
This was Wuning’s first time trying to be fair, and she had overlooked such small details.
Temporarily unable to find a pen, she was about to tell Cook not to fuss when Bo Yin proactively cut off the part with the embroidered name from his cloth strip and handed it over.
As their gazes met, the man’s eyes curved slightly.
“Alright, mission list has been issued. Everyone prepare. The man resumed his usual serious and somber demeanor, giving orders methodically.
Wuning opened her communicator.
This time, they were ordered to completely exterminate a remote planet and establish a safe mining zone.
Although the danger level was not as high as in the Dark Sky Zone, due to the vast area, large number of enemies, and tight time constraints, a total of 15 Polluted were dispatched, with orders to complete the mission within 8 hours.
Wuning felt a little excited. After they finalized the battle plan, she curiously asked if she was supposed to stay behind the lines.
“Stay behind the lines?” Sanchez checked his weapons one last time, raising an eyebrow with a smile.
He then pulled the girl into his arms, tightening her combat belt so firmly that Wuning winced.
“How could we bear to leave you behind, little lamb?” the man said, glancing at the approaching destination with a light chuckle. “Of course, you’re coming with us.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the hatch slowly opened, and a roaring gust of wind rushed in.
Before Wuning could react, Sanchez wrapped an arm around her waist and leaped off the warship!
A scream caught in her throat, while Sanchez’s hearty laughter echoed above her.
Wuning squeezed her eyes shut tightly—this was utterly insane.
She wasn’t wearing a parachute?!
And neither was he!!
