Rapidly shifting between connected or nearby shadows was not difficult for Joren.
So while Franklin used Double Machine Gun to clear out the ordinary people in the auction hall, Joren had already moved through the shadows and entered the shadow of one of the Nen users who had rushed out.
He knew exactly who the woman was.
She was a bodyguard for the Nostrade Family—and a colleague of Kurapika, one of the original story’s main characters.
Her name was Baise.
Her Nen ability was 180-Minute Love Slave: as long as she kissed someone on the lips, she could completely control them.
Joren had two options before him.
The first was to emerge from the shadow the moment Shizuku caught up and launch a surprise attack.
There was a very high chance he could seriously injure, or even kill Shizuku in a single blow.
But if he did that, he would most likely become enemies with the Phantom Troupe to the death.
The other option was to ignore Baise, move directly into Shizuku’s shadow, and hide there until he found an opportunity to escape.
But remembering the look in Feitan’s eyes just before he had sunk into the shadows, Joren knew that hiding probably would not work.
So he made his choice in an instant.
Shizuku had two tasks.
The first was to guard the auction hall entrance and make sure no one escaped.
The second was to clean up the auction hall and corridor once the massacre was over.
She was slightly surprised that Baise had managed to rush out so quickly.
But only slightly.
Baise had already run more than ten meters before Shizuku moved.
On one hand, Shizuku wanted to see whether anyone else would come running out of the hall.
On the other, Baise’s speed simply did not seem fast to her.
The instant Shizuku burst forward, the distance between them rapidly shrank.
She raised Blinky high above her head.
It was Shizuku’s weapon, materialized through her Nen ability.
Not only could it function as a vacuum cleaner, it could also be used like a hammer.
One casual swing was all it would take to kill the fleeing woman, who did not even dare to look back.
But in the next second, the shadow on the floor changed.
A fist as large as a sandbag shot out from the long shadow Baise cast under the lights.
Bang!
With a muffled grunt, Shizuku was sent flying backward even faster than she had charged in.
At the same time, Joren’s figure was exposed after the attack.
His extended fist swiftly retracted, and during its return, he brought it together with his other hand.
His left index and middle fingers were pressed together.
His ring finger and little finger were also pressed together, while a gap remained between his middle and ring fingers.
With his other hand pressing against the base of his left thumb and his thumb raised, the hand sign cast the silhouette of a dog’s head onto the ground.
“Divine Dogs.”
A black shadow appeared before Joren.
In an instant, two massive wolves burst out—one white, one black.
At the same moment, the black Divine Dog lashed forward with its claws, while the white Divine Dog turned and pounced toward Baise, who was nearly at the doors at the end of the corridor.
A sharp clang rang out as the black Divine Dog’s claws collided with an umbrella.
Behind it stood a short figure with narrow eyes.
Feitan had emerged from the auction hall.
The moment Joren’s cursed energy fluctuated, Feitan had already picked up on his location.
The only reason he had not rushed out sooner was that Franklin’s Double Machine Gun had only just stopped.
As for Shizuku, who had been sent flying, Feitan did not care in the slightest.
What surprised him was the black Divine Dog.
He had not expected a beast to be able to block his attack.
A Nen beast!
Feitan made his judgment in an instant.
At the same time, he lightly twisted the umbrella’s handle.
In the next moment, the umbrella tip disengaged and shot toward the black Divine Dog’s head like a bullet.
Blood sprayed.
Wounded in the head, the black Divine Dog opened its enormous jaws and lunged at Feitan.
The black wolf unleashed tremendous strength, as though it intended to drive Feitan’s umbrella straight into the floor.
At the same time, Feitan realized that Joren had vanished.
A warning flared in his mind.
His fingers moved, and he retreated.
The umbrella canopy was smashed to the ground by the black Divine Dog’s paw, but a thin sword had already appeared in Feitan’s hand.
He thrust the blade toward his own shadow on the floor.
At the same time, Baise, completely unaware of the battle behind her, reached the doors at the end of the corridor.
All she had to do was open them, and she could escape.
Hope ignited in her eyes.
Then, in the next instant, a snow-white giant wolf knocked her off her feet.
At the very same moment, the corridor doors swung open.
But outside was not the Mafia support Baise had been hoping for.
Instead, there stood a towering, powerfully built figure radiating savage wildness.
“What’s going on here?”
The deep voice came from Uvogin, who was blocking the doorway, carrying a trace of challenge.
But in the next second, a fist shot out from the shadow beneath Uvogin’s feet and smashed toward the center of his back.
The change came too quickly.
So quickly that Uvogin had no time to understand what had happened before he was sent flying.
Joren’s figure replaced his at the doorway at the end of the corridor.
His brows lifted slightly.
He could tell that the punch had not been enough to seriously injure Uvogin.
If anything, it might only provoke the beast.
With that thought, Joren quickly brought his hands together in front of him.
His thumbs hooked together, while his other eight fingers spread straight outward, forming the shape of an eagle taking flight.
“Nue.”
A black shadow spread beside him.
Then Nue appeared behind Joren: an owl-like shikigami with orange-brown fur, sharp claws and fangs, and a white mask over its face.
In the next second, the windows of the Cemetery Building shattered.
Joren crouched on Nue’s back as it burst from the building, Baise clutched in its talons.
The two Divine Dogs sank into the shadows on the floor and vanished.
Uvogin stepped out from the section of wall he had crashed through, his expression ugly—but there was not a visible injury on his body.
Before the doors had opened, he had already been prepared for a fight.
His attacker’s speed and angle had both been exceptionally tricky, but the force behind the strike had not been enough to completely break through his defenses.
At most, it had caused him a little pain.
Silently, he walked to the broken window and looked up at Nue flying away through the night sky.
“Interesting,” Feitan said as he and Shizuku approached.
Moving through shadows and summoning two different types of Nen beasts—his opponent was clearly an expert.
“He won’t get away.”
Uvogin bared a savage grin.
Before Feitan could say anything, he sprang through the shattered window.
“Clean up first.”
Franklin’s voice came from the auction hall entrance behind them, stopping Feitan just as he was about to follow.
Blood still marked the corner of Shizuku’s mouth.
She looked outside, rubbed the spot where she had been hit, then turned around and followed Feitan without expression.
From Nue’s back, Joren looked down toward the base of the building.
Not seeing what he had been worried about, he let out a quiet breath of relief.
As for Uvogin, who had leapt out through the window afterward—
Joren did not care.
