Nue’s mobility was Joren’s greatest source of confidence.

There were not many characters in Hunter x Hunter capable of flight, and most of those who could were concentrated among the Chimera Ants.

And the Chimera Ants were nowhere to be seen yet.Full novel: HxH: Ten Shadows — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

As for Baise, whom Nue had carried out of the building, Joren had brought her along deliberately.

She was a useful bridge for establishing contact with Kurapika and the protagonists.

Standing upright on Nue’s back, Joren did not worry about the expenditure of cursed energy.

His reserves were immense.

In terms of sheer cursed-energy volume alone, he was already at special-grade level.

That was one of the major differences between jujutsu sorcerers and Nen users.

A sorcerer’s maximum cursed-energy reserves were, for the most part, determined at birth.

What they needed to improve was their control over cursed energy and the efficiency of their output.

The first meant progressing from the crude, explosive use of cursed energy common to novice sorcerers to precise, fine control—eventually reaching advanced feats such as landing a Black Flash or performing a Domain Expansion.

The second involved amplifying one’s cursed-energy output in battle—one’s momentary explosive power, through emotional control, binding vows, or accumulated combat experience.

Joren had long since reached the level where he could land Black Flash.

As for Domain Expansion, he had yet to grasp it.

At most, he could deploy a Simple Domain to counter one.

Binding vows, meanwhile, were similar to the vows and limitations of the Hunter world.

By swearing an oath with a sufficient price attached, one could gain a corresponding benefit.

For now, Joren had no need for one.

He was also skilled at controlling his emotions, and he had no shortage of combat experience.

No one born into the Zenin clan had the luxury of avoiding battle.

Not with so many poisonous snakes lurking within the family.

If he had not made himself stronger, Joren had no idea how many times he would have died already.

Nen users, on the other hand, could continually increase their aura reserves through training after learning Nen.

The abilities they developed also varied enormously depending on their personality, needs, and Nen category.

Now that Joren had come to this world, there was no reason not to learn Nen.

Cursed energy and Nen were fundamentally different.

Cursed energy was born from negative emotions, while Nen was the life force and spiritual energy possessed by every person.

The only question was whether someone like him, a transmigrator, could actually awaken Nen, or whether he would be limited to cursed energy alone.

Joren had not awakened Nen yet since its literally just a quick transmigration without any beginner’s pack or something you’ll see in typical novel.

Cursed energy also enhanced a sorcerer’s physical abilities.

From the moment he became a sorcerer, Joren’s body had already surpassed that of an ordinary person.

After years of training, he was far beyond human limits, even if he could not quite be called a monster.

Moreover, the Zenin clan imposed strict physical training requirements.

In Joren’s view, he probably only needed the right trigger to awaken Nen.

And that trigger was currently right in front of him.

Joren looked toward Baise, who was being carried by Nue.

Just then, Baise’s voice reached him through the roaring wind.

“Hey!”

Joren did not answer.

Instead, Nue abruptly released her.

As Baise fell, Nue suddenly accelerated, banked sharply, and dove in one smooth motion.

The instant Nue closed in on the falling Baise, Joren reached out and pulled her onto Nue’s back.

Baise had the classic features of a beautiful woman.

Her long hair, which had been pinned up, was now slightly disheveled from the battle, lending her an alluring air.

Unfortunately, most of that allure had been replaced by panic.

“What is it?” Joren asked.

“Thank you for saving me,” Baise said first.

She understood perfectly well that if this man had not appeared out of nowhere, she would likely have died in the auction hall corridor.

Joren gave a small nod.

“And?”

Baise paused, then noticed that Joren’s gaze had settled on her ear.

She was wearing an earpiece, its wire connected to her phone.

After Nue had carried her into the air, Baise had already contacted the members stationed on the perimeter.

The call was still connected.

Everything she said here could be heard by the people on the other end, even over the howling wind.

“We should be the last survivors from the auction hall.

The Mafia wants information from us about the people who attacked it,” Baise answered honestly.

Joren frowned slightly, but he understood in the next instant.

Baise belonged to the Nostrade Family, a Mafia family from a small place that had gained some recognition from higher-ranking Mafia figures because the family’s young mistress possessed a fortune-telling ability.

But the Nostrade Family’s boss, Light Nostrade, was ambitious.

The person responsible for communications would naturally have reported Baise’s survival immediately.

It seemed that after receiving the news, Light had decided to use this opportunity to establish ties with higher-ranking Mafia bosses.

And the bargaining chips he intended to use were Baise and Joren—the survivors of the auction massacre.

Baise was also studying Joren.

His clothes did not make him look like someone who belonged at an auction.

If anything, he looked like a high school student.

But in Baise’s eyes, his strength was impossible to gauge.

If he refused outright, she would not have been surprised.

“Where?” Joren asked.

His answer caught Baise off guard.

Then she quickly raised her hand and pointed toward a building in the distance.

“Over there.

People were stationed on the roof in advance, waiting for us,” she explained.

“There’s still someone tracking us below.

Is it really safe to go there?” Joren reminded her.

At the same time, a doubt surfaced in his mind.

Nue was not flying obediently through open air.

Joren had lowered its altitude and used the city’s buildings as cover to shake Uvogin’s pursuit.

But it seemed to be doing no good.

Even when they managed to leave Uvogin behind for a short time, he would quickly catch up again.

There was only one explanation Joren could think of.

Either he, Nue, or Baise had been marked somehow.

But when?

His mind replayed everything since his transmigration.

There was only one suspicious moment: when Nue had burst through the windows of the Semetary Building.

At the time, he had worried that the Phantom Troupe might already have arranged something outside.

Now, with Uvogin pursuing them relentlessly, it proved that his suspicions had been correct—even though he had not noticed anything unusual on the building’s exterior.

Still, that was entirely possible.

It would only take a technique he did not yet know.

After all, he wielded cursed energy, not Nen.

If his opponents had used In—the Nen technique that conceals emitted aura, he might not have been able to see their setup at all.

Baise was silent for a moment before answering.

“It’ll be fine.

But we need to stall for a little time.”

Joren nodded.

Then, with a single sentence, he left Baise staring at him in shock.

“Fine.

But before that, I need you to hit me as hard as you can, with Nen.”
