“President Ruan said she’ll be here soon.”
Hearing this, Mu Xiubai’s expression softened slightly.
Sure enough, if he didn’t let her come to the company, she wouldn’t sit still. She’d
shamelessly come to the company to get closer to him, all for the sake of spending more time with him.
She loved to sneak into the president’s office, but to maintain his image as a good husband, he’d reluctantly allowed it.
He waved his hand, “Go back now. When she arrives, tell her to come see me.”
Zhang Qian didn’t dare breathe loudly, quickly nodded, and slipped out.
Ruan Mi arrived quickly and went back to her office first.
Seeing Ruan Mi arrive, Zhang Qian rushed forward, “President Ruan, President Mu wants you to go to his office immediately.”
Then, somewhat curiously, she asked, “Did you two have a falling out?”
The two had always been a model couple at the company, admired by everyone.
Today’s situation had truly startled her.
Ruan Mi forced a smile, “It’s nothing, go back to work!”
Ruan Mi didn’t want to say more, and Zhang Qian wisely refrained from asking further.
Back at her desk, she typed out a resignation letter and headed straight for the CEO’s office.
She knocked on the door, and a clearly displeased voice came from inside. “Come in.”
Ruan Mi pushed the door open, and Mu Xiubai was leaning back in his swivel chair with his eyes closed.
His tightly closed eyes snapped open, and he narrowed his eyes upon seeing her.
A perfectly tailored red dress, paired with exquisite and vibrant makeup, made her look radiant.
The perfectly fitted waist accentuated Ruan Mi’s slender figure.
Having known Ruan Mi for five years, he had never seen her dressed like this.
He knew Ruan Mi was beautiful, but he hadn’t expected her to be this beautiful.
Bold yet elegant.
Looking at Ruan Mi’s face, her expression was calm, her cold eyes indifferent and aloof.
That look? Was she still throwing a tantrum?
Mu Xiubai scoffed inwardly. Who did she think she was? Did she think he could appease her by throwing a tantrum?
And what’s she wearing today? Is she trying to seduce him again?
What wishful thinking.
“Since you don’t want to come to the company, you don’t need to keep your vice president position. Anyway, you haven’t accomplished anything during your time here. I’ll have Zhou Mei take your place; you can hand over the duties then.”
Mu Xiubai finished speaking and looked at Ruan Mi with a playful gaze. He wanted to see Ruan Mi’s regretful expression; he wanted to see Ruan Mi bow her head to him again.
Ruan Mi didn’t avoid Mu Xiubai’s scrutiny. She was just there to submit her resignation; she didn’t care who he wanted to replace her.
But Mu Xiubai actually denied her five years of tireless dedication.
She thought she wouldn’t feel anything from Mu Xiubai’s words, but a slight pain still appeared in the already numb part of her heart.
Composing herself, she smiled lightly, speaking casually, and handed over her resignation letter.
“No need to trouble you, Mr. Mu, I’ve already written my resignation letter.”
Mu Xiubai looked at the resignation letter in front of him, a look of surprise flashing across his eyes, followed by a surge of inexplicable anger.
“You’re resigning? Ruan Mi, are you serious?”
Ruan Mi sneered, “Isn’t this what Mr. Mu wanted?”
Mr. Mu? Ha, well, she’s even calling him Mr. Mu now.
Is she planning to play the silent treatment game with him?
Mu Xiubai snorted, “Fine, at least you have some self-awareness.”
He forcefully snatched the resignation letter, flipped it to the back, signed his name,
and then threw it forcefully at Ruan Mi.
“Zhou Mei will come to hand over the work tomorrow, so you need to do your handover properly.”
Ruan Mi didn’t care about Mu Xiubai’s terrible attitude. He could make someone who knew nothing the company’s vice president.
Mu Xiubai was willing to disregard the company’s future, so she was happy to watch the show, picking up the resignation letter with a bright smile.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Mu. But let’s use this time to sign the divorce papers and schedule a time to complete the formalities.”
Mu Xiubai’s face suddenly darkened. Seeing Ruan Mi’s bright smile, he felt extremely annoyed, and his fists clenched so tightly they cracked.
Looking at the divorce papers in front of him, he was reminded of Ruan Mi’s resolute attitude that night.
“Divorce? Who gave you the audacity to mention this to me? You begged for this marriage; whether it ends or not is up to me.”
He threw the divorce papers into the shredder.
Ruan Mi appeared to show no emotion.
“Why won’t you agree to a divorce? Zhou Mei is determined to become Mrs. Mu.”
Mu Xiubai leaned back in his chair, speaking indifferently. “That’s between Mei’er and me. You have no right to interfere. Besides, I’m not the kind of person who would abandon his wife after all. You’ve been with me for five years. Even if there’s no love, there’s still affection.”
Ruan Mi sneered, “You don’t even have the right to decide your own marriage?
Mu Xiubai, don’t try to make yourself sound so noble. Is your unwillingness to divorce me really because of that insignificant affection?
Isn’t it because of my status as the daughter of the Ruan family?”
Ruan Mi coldly glanced at Mu Xiubai, wanting to see if he had the backbone to admit his hypocrisy.
Hearing this, Mu Xiubai’s face turned extremely ugly, whether from humiliation or the exposure of his dark side. He
suddenly stood up, went around the table, and grabbed Ruan Mi’s chin, his eyes as cold as ice.
“The status of the daughter of the Ruan family? When has Ruan Chengyi ever acknowledged my existence? How dare you say that?”
Mu Xiubai was furious. Two years into their marriage, Ruan Mi had refused to take him back home.
All she needed to do was soften her stance; with Ruan Chengyi’s doting on her, the Mu family would have already secured a place in the capital.
Why would he need to go through all that trouble?
Ruan Mi was forced to look up at him, her brows furrowed.
He pinched her hard, then stomped his leg on the ground.
A muffled groan escaped Mu Xiubai’s lips, his face turning ashen. Ruan Mi pushed him away forcefully, creating distance between them.
“Mu Xiubai, you’re truly hypocritical,”
Ruan Mi said, her eyes filled with sarcasm.
If it weren’t for love, she would never have tolerated Mu Xiubai’s arrogance, his disdain for others, and his petty narrow-mindedness.
Ruan Mi continued, “Further words are useless. If you agree to the divorce now, I won’t take anything, just my personal belongings.
If you still refuse to sign, we’ll see each other in court.”
Mu Xiubai sized Ruan Mi up; he didn’t believe she would give up everything in a divorce.
If she doesn’t want anything, it means she doesn’t really want a divorce.
Mu Xiubai was already convinced that Ruan Mi was playing hard to get.
She spoke so grandly, only wanting what was rightfully hers, but before the marriage, Ruan Mi had nothing.
Mu Xiubai’s eyes darkened as he approached Ruan Mi, saying each word slowly, “What’s rightfully yours? I seem to remember that since we got married, everything you’ve used and eaten has been mine!”
Ruan Mi instinctively backed away until her lower back was pressed against the edge of the desk.
She hadn’t expected Mu Xiubai to be so shameless, saying she had nothing.
Based on her contributions to the company over the years, she would be a VIP in any company.
But she didn’t care anymore; as long as Mu Xiubai would agree to a divorce, she wouldn’t care about anything else.
She reached out to stop Mu Xiubai from getting closer; his scent made her nauseous.
“As long as you return the jade pendant around my neck, I will keep my promise and not want anything else.”
The jade pendant was a gift of love she had given him, and now she wanted it back.
