Lu Xiaoqiao stubbornly turned back and shoved the divorce agreement into his arms. Her eyes were red with anger.
“Sign it. I haven’t eaten all day. I need to go home and drink the chicken soup my mother made.”
She even thoughtfully handed him a pen.
“Your mother?” Xie Xun stared at her watery eyes. “You live with your parents?”
Lu Xiaoqiao felt annoyed.
They were never a normal married couple. Explaining their relationship would take forever, and he had forgotten everything. She had neither the time nor the patience to sit there and make small talk with him.
“Of course. We’re getting divorced, so I moved back to my parents’ house. I’m just waiting to get the divorce certificate.”
“Just sign it.” She eagerly repeated her request.
Xie Xun pressed his lips together. He lowered his eyes and quickly looked through the agreement. The sound of the pages turning was the only thing filling the room.
“The child goes to you?” he asked.
Lu Xiaoqiao nodded.
“Why?”
“Why else?” Lu Xiaoqiao took a deep breath. “We already agreed on this! Besides, you don’t even remember him…”
Xie Xun threw the agreement back at her.
“Bring him here. Since about ninety percent of what you’ve said is a lie, I’m starting to wonder if this child even exists.”
Lu Xiaoqiao stared at him in disbelief.
“You think I cheated on you? Even if you cheated, I wouldn’t. My morals are much better than yours. The child is definitely yours!”
“……”
Xie Xun was furious.
“I never said he wasn’t mine. I’m only wondering whether you made up the whole story about having a child…”
Before he could finish, Lu Xiaoqiao had already lost her patience.
She grabbed the stack of A4 papers and threw them straight at his face.
“He’s yours! Are you trying to get out of paying child support?”
“……”
Xie Xun had the same thought again.
He would never tolerate someone treating him this disrespectfully.
Unless, of course, she had some evidence that could ruin him.
This was getting nowhere.
Besides, he had only lost his memory. He had not been reborn as a completely different person. Knowing his personality, he might become even more difficult after getting angry.
Lu Xiaoqiao picked up the divorce papers that had fallen onto his face and body and calmly placed them back on his lap.
“You just woke up. You probably need some time to calm down. Everything in this agreement was something you agreed to before the accident. Think about it carefully.”
She needed to go home.
She had promised Tutu that she would teach him how to play with a Chinese jump rope.
Just as she was about to leave, Xie Xun suddenly said coldly,
“Have Song Ming come here.”
“……”
Lu Xiaoqiao turned around in surprise.
“He was fired by you a long time ago.”
Xie Xun froze.
“You mean your assistant, right?” Lu Xiaoqiao immediately understood that his memories were mixed up.
“Your current assistant is Li Yundong. He used to be your older brother’s special assistant. After your brother passed away, he started working for you.”
She smiled politely.
“I’ll call him for you.”
He probably wanted to find out more about his situation.
The wind howled through the hospital corridor.
Lu Xiaoqiao stood around the corner and called Assistant Li, asking him to come over.
When she turned around, Wan Bao’er was standing there.
Lu Xiaoqiao steadied her breathing.
“Sister-in-law.”
Wan Bao’er’s eyes were beautiful like glass beads.
“He really forgot?”
“You were right, Sister-in-law,” Lu Xiaoqiao did not answer her question directly. “He really does favor Xiaoyu.”
“……”
Apart from that vague answer, Lu Xiaoqiao said nothing else.
The first rule of surviving in a wealthy family was simple: Never answer questions that were not yours to answer.
Li Yundong had practically turned the hospital room into his boss’s new office.
After the IV bottle was empty, the nurse pushed the cart out and closed the door.
Li Yundong immediately began giving his report.
“President Xie suddenly suffered a heart attack while he was away on a business trip. The doctors tried to save him for two days…”
But they couldn’t save him.
Xie Xun’s eyes were deep and unreadable.
“You came back and took control of the company after President Xie passed away. You were the one who stopped the chaos inside the group,” Li Yundong said. “You did have a special assistant named Song Ming, but you fired him a year ago…”
Xie Xun asked, “Why?”
“……”
Li Yundong hesitated. Unable to withstand Xie Xun’s cold gaze, he decided to tell the truth.
“I don’t know the exact reason. But after you fired Assistant Song, you and your wife had a very serious argument.”
Xie Xun narrowed his eyes.
“She disagreed?”
“Yes,” Li Yundong said. “At that time, President Xie was still alive. He rushed back from another city, and I went with him to your home. It was the first time I had ever seen your wife that angry…”
That day, Xie Xun had stood barefoot among broken glass, desperately holding Lu Xiaoqiao as she broke down.
He did not even care that his own feet were bleeding.
Xie Minghe had tried to settle the matter fairly and ordered Xie Xun to bring Song Ming back.
Xie Xun respected his older brother deeply, but he had refused to give in on this matter.
Even when Lu Xiaoqiao cried, argued with him, hit him, and cursed at him in front of everyone, he never changed his mind.
In the end, Lu Xiaoqiao became exhausted from crying, and Xie Xun carried her back to the bedroom.
Afterward, Xie Minghe took Xie Xun into the study and spoke with him privately.
Li Yundong had no idea what the two brothers talked about in that room.
The hospital room became silent for a long time.
A dull pain slowly spread through Xie Xun’s head.
It felt as if an invisible hand were tearing his brain apart layer by layer, pulling at his nerves.
“She said… my wife said…” Xie Xun rubbed his temples. “That I fell into the river to save my sister-in-law?”
Li Yundong did not dare answer carelessly.
He had originally been Xie Minghe’s special assistant and was now working for Xie Xun. That made his position extremely sensitive.
He had to be careful not to appear as if he were taking sides between the former president’s wife and the current president’s wife.
He carefully handed over his laptop.
“I got the surveillance footage of the accident.”
It was footage from the bridge.
Xie Xun watched Wan Bao’er’s car drive onto the bridge.
Then he saw his own Maybach speeding after her.
The car suddenly drifted and blocked Wan Bao’er’s path.
Then his Maybach crashed through the barrier and fell into the river.
Xie Xun raised his eyes.
“I lost control of my car?”
“……”
Li Yundong avoided his gaze.
“Because the rescue was difficult, they could only save you. The car…”
He paused.
“It’s gone.”
The river had carried it away.
Even if there had been something wrong with the car, there was now no way to investigate it.
Xie Xun loved cars, and he especially loved modifying them himself. He was an expert when it came to cars.
He had always been extremely precise when controlling speed and distance.
That Maybach had been his longtime companion.
There was no way he would simply lose control of it.
Unless something had gone wrong with the car itself.
From the surveillance footage, however, it really did look like he had rushed over to save Wan Bao’er.
The video continued.
Before Xie Xun could ask how he had known Wan Bao’er’s car was heading that way, the stopped car suddenly opened.
A woman stepped out.
She was dressed in black.
Her soft, chestnut-colored hair was loosely tied behind her head with a simple bow.
Even with the poor quality of the surveillance footage, her beauty was impossible to hide.
Xie Xun watched as she slowly walked toward the edge of the bridge.
She slowly moved her hand.
Then she slowly put both hands into her pockets.
And did nothing else.
She did not take out her phone.
She did not panic.
She did not call for help.
Nothing.
Only the bow in her hair moved gently in the river wind, fluttering like a butterfly.
Xie Xun seemed to hear a sound.
Heh.
It was his own mocking laugh.
