Nikolai
He passed out!
I halted, staring down at him and wanting to feel his breath.
And he was breathing.
His body relaxed in my arms and I couldn’t help but wonder why he was so light.
Last time I carried him as well, he was just as light.
No improvement.
I scoffed.
His hair covered his face, and he buried his head on my chest.
When I looked at him, my eyes fell on his lips.
They were pink, as though it was painted with a pink lipstick but it wasn’t.
He was just like that.
When I took a step forward, a rush of liquid was dripping on my shoes, wetting my pants all the way down.
At that moment, my mind suddenly went blank, just as I bent to take a look, as expected, it was his blood.
One glance and the muscles of my heart tightened as though it would burst out bleeding.
The heavy pangs of anxiety clamoring on my heart’s vessel.
The smell of his blood brought memories I had tried to bury deep in my heart.
My hands tightened around his body, and I stared back at his face.
I gnashed my teeth tight.
Adrian reminded me so much of him.
Even in such a fragile state, he didn’t fail to irritate me.
It was moments like this that made me hate him.
The feeling of weakness that clamored in my heart because of him was something I couldn’t tolerate.
This exact feeling was something I’ve vowed never to feel.
Yet, here I was, even when I shouldn’t be.
The wind hit my body, and my breath went with it.
Tremors, panic ripping through my veins all at once.
I was suffocating, the gust of cold wind sending its cold air to hit me, and made goosebumps appearing over my body.
He had an effect on me, and I hated it.
It’s been a long time since I felt this way.
If I could remember clearly, ten years…
I tightened my grip around him and bit my lips as I hastened my steps.
“Take us to the Mancini’s private hospital.” I muttered, placing him in the backseat of the car.
“Get the other man that survived and…” I pulsed my lips.
I took another glance at Adrian and all that clouded my mind was a million ways I could have dealt with Franklyn but he was dead.
“Beat him up.”
His subordinate deserves my wrath!
We got to the family hospital in the Mancini’s estate and the doctor seemed completely overwhelmed when he checked on Adrian.
“He has lost a lot of blood, and I don’t think…?”
I deepened my gaze and the doctor quivered.
“If he dies, you die.”
He rushed inside the operation room and I waited outside.
My gaze followed them until they disappeared.
Being in the hospital felt suffocating.
The memories I was struggling to forget suddenly caused a shiver down my body.
It wasn’t long ago that I was exactly on the same spot.
“Boss, Isabelle is here.” Gregory interrupted and I broke out of my thoughts.
Before I could respond to Gregory, Isabelle rushed inside, “Where is he?” Her eyes were reddened.
It seems as though she has been crying since Adrian’s disappearance.
“He is in surgery Isabelle.”
“How badly was he hurt?” She held my hands and stared into my eyes.
I could sense her despair.
I knew if I told her how he was, she would break down in tears again.
So I didn’t.
“Just a few bruises.
He will be fine.”
She heaved a deep breath and bent on her knees.
Liliana held her and then I nodded for her to take Isabelle away.
“Are you going to remain here?” Liliana questioned.
“There isn’t any need, but in case Leonardo comes, it’s better I’m here.”
“Okay Nikolai.” She turned to Isabelle and held her hand as she dragged her out. The source of this chapter is g.com.
I turned towards the closed surgery door, and instantly I froze.
My past was getting a better hold on me.
Ten years apart, but still, the sign on the top of the door triggered my anxiety.
My feet felt like a root, and I couldn’t move.
I tightened my fist and my eyes clenched shut.
I couldn’t contain the fury burning in my body, I left my lips parted heaving in breaths with hopes it would calm my burning heart.
But it didn’t, every step brought a kind of startle.
I could feel my eyes gathering tears as the memory of the past flickered before them.
The sound of his voice when the bullet burned through his skin.
The fear in his eyes when he took that shot for me.
It was the first and last time I had teary eyes.
I tried to shut down the rush of emotions, but it didn’t help.
Standing in front of these closed doors made ten years ago felt like yesterday.
“He is ready to speak.” Gregory interrupted, I didn’t hear his footsteps.
“Does he know who paid Franklyn for the job?” I asked.
“He doesn’t, but he seems to have some other information.”
“What information could he possibly have?” I yelled and Gregory stepped backwards.
I hastened my steps to the building.
Taking the stairway to the basement, the man came into my view.
I walked towards him and muttered into his ears-
“If you tell a lie, I will make sure to let you feel what it’s like to be on the brink of death and you wouldn’t even be close to it ”
His eyes batted and he begged, “I will tell you everything.”
“Who paid for the kidnapped?”
“Someone by the name pinky.
Franklyn had received money from pinky.” He cried.
I raised a brow and opened the phone from earlier, I flashed the number that had called in his face.
“Why did this number call Franklyn?”
“I have no idea, I promise.
I don’t know.”
I nodded.
“Perhaps, I should ask pinky.”
