Nikolai

“They are ready.” Thomas informed me from outside the car and Gregory turned to me.

I came down from the car and then headed into the club through the private elevator.

When I entered the room, it was dark and pinky crouched on the sofa with her head bent to the ground.

Her long pink hair was straightened and tied on both sides, with bangs that fell on her forehead.

Immediately she saw me, Pinky collapsed to the ground in defeat.

“Nikolai.” Her voice was shaking.

“You received a job?

Who paid to have Adrian killed?” Her eyes wavered but then she looked at me and met my eyes.

“Aren’t the Moretti’s your enemy?” She still didn’t understand.

“Yet, I allowed Adrian to get married to my niece.”

When she heard those words, she crawled to my feet and then pleaded, “I didn’t have any ideas.

I took the job because of the money, and Teddy didn’t mention…” She bites her lips.

“Teddy…” My lips curved in anger, “he paid for Adrian’s kidnapping?”

Pinky left her head mellowed to the ground.

“Drag her out.” I turned to the door, but she crawled towards me and held my pants.

“He said if I were to be a bridge between him and Franklyn, I’d be doing you a great favor.

He said Adrian was a pest the Mancini’s needed to get rid of.”

I heaved a deep breath, “getting involved with the Mancini’s will do you no good.

Do the work I asked of you and keep your life.”

I walked away.

Teddy Mancini has been wild these days, from keeping the company’s money to himself and now, trying to get Adrian killed knowing what would happen if Adrian dies in our care.

Perhaps, he did that because he knew better what would happen.

Foolish!

“Where is he?” I asked Gregory and he was frozen for a moment.

“Boss, he is here in the club.”

“Let’s go over.”

The music was loud, and the half naked women latched to his body were almost twenty.

He had some twerk on the sofa, while some poured wine for his friends that seemed to be enjoying themselves.

When they saw me, the men stopped their activity, fear cowering beneath their feets.

“Nikolai, I was expecting you.” Teddy laughed out loud.

His potted belly dancing to the tone of his laugh.

I sat down, and some ladies walked towards me with wine, I shot them a death glare and they stopped in their tracks.

“I don’t need it.” This chapter was copied from g.com without permission.

“You had to attack the Moretti?”

“Isn’t that what the family should have done instead of marrying off our beautiful Isabelle to them?” He laughed.

“I only did the family a favor, shouldn’t you be thankful?

You couldn’t handle such lame people, and allowed a stupid alliance.”

“Also, I did a favor to Franklyn, Leonardo had killed his family.

But I heard you killed him, poor child.”

I didn’t spare him a glance.

He tried to hide his intentions but he was too obvious.

“The profit for the sales of last week have not been credited.” When he heard me, he paused and then placed his glass on the table.

Then he turned to his friends, “Excuse us.” They all left, including the women that was hovering around.

“It’s just a delay in accounts, it will be done by the coming weekend.”

I scoffed.

“And there is news I received…there were guns missing from the shipped batch and I was told that the Guerreros have received shipment from us, illegally.” I turned to look at him and joined my hands together.

He couldn’t hold my gaze.

Teddy’s laugh faltered.

His fingers trembled slightly as he reached for the glass again—but didn’t drink.

“All are lies.

The Guerrero’s are our enemies.

They wouldn’t dare buy anything from us.

They accuse us for the deaths of Pedro, their heir.

They hate us.”

“It’s just rumors Nikolai.” .

But it wasn’t.

I had eyes in every branch run by our blood.

Every information was nothing but the truth.

Teddy didn’t just try to get Adrian killed, but other Mancini members by doing business with the Guerrero’s.

It was betrayal.

“From today, you are removed as the president of the sales subsidiary.

You can spend your remaining days clubbing.” I stood on my feet and walked towards the door, but then-

“You can’t do that.

Even though you are the head of the family.

Nikolai, I will not let you do that.” Teddy threatened.

“If you step into that property, I might serve it to them anyways.”

I walked out.

Pinky and Thomas waited outside the whole time.

When she saw me-

She clutched the edge of her coat as if it could shield her from a man like me.

But nothing could—not if I made up my mind

“Boss, am I forgiven?

I promise I had no idea Adrian…” She stopped speaking when she noticed my demeanor.

“Your affairs don’t concern me, but if you dare put any Mancini’s in danger, I will have you six feet under.”

Her hands quivered and she bowed.

“It will never happen.”

I walked past her but she hurried over, “I got some information about the Guerrero’s.”

When she said the words, the elevator opened and we entered.

“Finally doing your job?”

“I always do my job, boss.”

“What about them?”

“Felix entered the city last night.

He came secretly.”

Felix!

His name caused a stir in my heart.

He was the ghost of a war not yet won.

Felix was the next heir of the Guerrero’s after Pedro’s death.

Even taking vengeance on Pedro’s death was his duty.

Visiting our city might not just be for a tour.

“Have your people keep an eye on him, and send daily reports.”

It’s been ten years, they’ve been silent, they’ve lost someone and I’ve lost some…

My thoughts stopped when the elevator opened to the basement.

Adrian, in his weak state, was standing in front of me.

My eyes squinted and it trailed his body-

He looked too pale to stand, yet there he was.

I clenched my fists.

This boy had no idea how close he’d come to death… or how many ghosts his presence summoned.

“What could he be doing here?” I frowned.
