I walked across the grassy plains stretching beneath a wide blue sky, my hammer slung over my shoulder. A pleasant breeze carried the scent of fresh green grass. Naturally, I’d taken off my tanker helmet to feel the wind on my face.
As monsters turned to mist and faded away around me, this place was probably some kind of dungeon. I kept my distance from fights whenever possible, looking for the exit. Over a small hill, my [Presence Detection] skill picked up a group of about ten monsters, but since none of them seemed to be coming over, I decided to ignore them. But then I heard it, a woman’s voice crying for help. Thanks to my [Language Comprehension] skill working perfectly, I could understand every word.
”Ahhh! Don’t come any closer! Lisa, hurry! Get out of here now!”
”Aina, help! They’ve surrounded me! Cas! Where are you?”
”Somebody! Anybody! Please help!”
Hearing those desperate cries, I sprinted up the small hill. Below, I could see three small groups. On the left and right, women had already fallen and were being surrounded by goblins. In the center, one woman was still swinging her sword.
”I’m coming!”
I shouted as I charged down the hill. When you’re jumping into a fight, you’d better announce yourself first, otherwise they might think you’re trying to steal their kills. Then again, I wasn’t sure if that was how things worked in this world either… But since they were screaming for help, intervening shouldn’t be a problem.
With my Speed stat at 80, I closed the distance in seconds, charging straight for the group on the left. The woman there had her clothes torn, her limbs pinned down by goblins. One of them had his junk out and was about to climb on top of her.
”Hmph!”
I swung my hammer, wrapped in Gaia Points (GP), in a wide arc. The two goblins pinning her legs went flying, along with the one that had its junk out. On the backswing, I took off the head of the goblin holding her arm. The other goblins, hearing and seeing the commotion, turned toward me one by one.
Now I had the advantage. All I had to do was take them down as they came. I didn’t need to use [One Strike], just disable them long enough to finish off later.
A few minutes later, I was finishing off the downed goblins when I noticed the three women trembling, their faces pale with fear.
”Hey. You okay?”
I tried to put on a friendly smile… but it only made them go paler, shaking even harder.
”Oh? Ohhh, uh, my bad.”
Looking down at myself, I realized I was drenched in goblin blood and bits of gore. Of course they were terrified. Who wouldn’t be?
I used [Life Magic] [Clean] on myself and tried again.
”Hey. You okay?”
I tried to be pleasant this time, but they just stared at me with cold suspicion. What the hell? Was my smile really that creepy?
The one who had been fighting to the end was Aina, the swordswoman. The one I’d saved first was Cas, the rogue. And the last girl was Lisa, another swordswoman. Two swordswomen and a rogue as a party? I had no idea if that was a good lineup, I’d never actually been in a party before. Don’t call me a loner. I’ll actually cry.
These three had something interesting: dog ears. Fluffy dog ears. And fluffy tails to match. So the first inhabitants of this Other World I’d encountered were beast-people.
Oh, by the way, I killed eighteen goblins in that fight.
Summary:
The protagonist, enjoying a peaceful walk through a grassy plain, detects monsters but chooses to ignore them until he hears women screaming for help. He rushes to their aid, effortlessly defeating a group of goblins in a brutal fight. The women are initially terrified of him due to his blood-soaked appearance, but he awkwardly tries to make amends, realizing they are beast-people with dog ears and tails. He ends by casually noting he killed eighteen goblins, leaving the women’s true reactions and whether they will trust him still uncertain.

- The goblins were not only attacking but also attempting to sexually assault the women, which the protagonist stops without hesitation.
- The protagonist’s Speed stat is exactly 80, which he uses to close distances quickly in combat.
- He uses a hammer wrapped in Gaia Points (GP) as his weapon, suggesting GP is an energy or enhancement system.
- He chose not to use [One Strike] against the goblins, implying the skill is a powerful finishing move he reserves for stronger foes.
- The protagonist admits he has never been in a party before, reinforcing his loner status and lack of social experience.
- The beast-people he encounters have dog ears and fluffy tails, marking the first time he has seen this race in the Other World.
- The total goblin count for this encounter is 18, which he reveals as an offhand final remark.
Translation Notes:
1 ↩ Japanese idiom meaning “to give someone a cold, disapproving stare.” The literal translation is “to be looked at with white eyes.” The protagonist is confused because his friendly smile earned him suspicious or judgmental looks, not because of any literal eye color.
2 ↩ Japanese expression meaning “I cannot understand” or “it doesn’t make sense.” It conveys frustration or bewilderment, often used when someone cannot comprehend another’s reaction or a situation. The protagonist uses it when the women react coldly to his attempted kindness.
3 ↩ Japanese slang derived from “botchi” meaning “loner” or “someone without friends/companions.” Used self-deprecatingly by the protagonist when reflecting on his lack of party experience.
