The next morning, Maya rubbed her sleepy eyes, pushed aside the curtain, and got out of bed.
When her gaze fell on Morgan sleeping on the cool mat in front of her bed, a yawn caught in her throat, and she was startled.
‘The little fool…
something was up with his pajama pants.’
Maya was so startled she fell back onto the bed, her own face flushing red!
Even though Morgan wasn’t all there mentally, for a man and a woman alone together, a situation like this was still pretty awkward!
She held her breath as she got out of bed to wash up.
When she came out of the bathroom, she saw Morgan rolling up the cool mat from the floor to put it away.
When Morgan saw her, a faint blush instantly spread across his face, and he frantically held the mat in front of him to hide behind it.
Maya understood at a glance.
She was slightly taken aback.
‘He knows to be ashamed of that?’
‘Is he really a fool, or is he faking it?’
She cleared her throat, pretending to be calm as she tested him.
“Morgan, give me the mat.”
Morgan shook his head, still hiding behind the mat, his head hanging even lower.
Maya’s tone turned harsh.
“Why won’t you give it to me?
I’m asking you a question; you have to answer.
Otherwise, I don’t want you anymore.”
Those five words, “I don’t want you anymore,” were devastating to Morgan, who had been sleeping rough for months and had only just enjoyed one good day.
He hurriedly handed the mat to Maya and turned slightly to the side, not daring to face her directly or even look at her.
Maya asked directly, “What’s going on?”
She needed to know if Morgan understood what was happening to judge whether it was safe for her if he stayed.
Morgan’s eyes darted away, his voice tiny.
“I don’t know…”
He looked like he was about to cry.
“I’m so scared…”
Seeing his state, Maya almost burst out laughing.
She moved closer to him, looked into his panicked, evasive eyes, and comforted him, “It’s normal.
You don’t have to be shy.”
Morgan’s face was so red it looked like it would bleed.
He said hastily, “It wasn’t like this before.”
Maya said, “Go to the bathroom, take a cold shower, and then come out.”
Morgan fled into the bathroom.
When he came out, he was finally back to normal.
Maya felt it was necessary to give him a lesson on basic biology, so she sat up straight in front of him, her tone serious and earnest.
“Morgan, this is a very normal thing.
You don’t need to feel ashamed…”
She explained for a long time before Morgan, only half-understanding, nodded.
Once he confirmed he wasn’t a pervert, he relaxed.
While Maya made breakfast, Morgan watched attentively, learning.
After they ate together, she took him toward the police station.
With the nationwide network now, maybe the police could use facial recognition or fingerprints to find out Morgan’s background and help him find his family.
When they reached the entrance of the police station, Maya explained their purpose to the guard.
Just as she was about to lead Morgan inside, she turned around and saw the fool was gone!
“Morgan!
Morgan!” Maya shouted in terror, but there was no sign of him anywhere.
The thought that she had lost him made her heart skip a beat, and fear washed over her.
This county town was nothing like Veridia; it was crowded and complicated.
If a bad person abducted him, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Maya ran around in a panic, shouting “Morgan” at the top of her lungs, her mind filled with gory images of the fool being dragged away to have his organs harvested.
But after searching for half the day, she still couldn’t find him.
Her clothes were long since soaked with sweat.
Panic and fear grew in her heart.
If Morgan really got lost and was abducted by a bad person because she brought him to the county town, she would blame herself for the rest of her life and could never make up for this mistake.
Clinging to a final shred of hope, she headed back to her rented apartment.
Just as she got to her floor, she saw a large figure sitting in front of her door, hugging his knees.
Who could it be but Morgan?!
Maya’s heart, which had been in her throat all day, slowly settled back into place.
She bounded up the stairs, taking them two at a time.
“Where did you run off to?
Didn’t I tell you to stay with me!
Why did you run off?!”
She reached out and started pummeling Morgan haphazardly.
She was truly frightened and panicked, so her blows were heavy, but Morgan didn’t flinch at all.
“You’re so disobedient!
I don’t want you anymore!”
Seeing Maya’s eyes red with anger, Morgan hung his head and didn’t dare to speak.
“So you did know the way back!”
Morgan mumbled softly, “There’s a convenience store downstairs, I remembered…”
Maya’s head was about to explode.
She realized it was impossible to communicate with him.
He wouldn’t answer the questions he was supposed to, but he was more than happy to answer the ones he wasn’t!
Morgan looked at her timidly, tugging gently at the hem of her clothes and coaxing cautiously, “Maya, don’t be angry…”
Looking at his pitiful expression, Maya put her hands on her hips and took several deep breaths before opening the door to let him in.
“We agreed I’d take you to find your family today.
Why did you run away?”
Morgan’s fingers twisted nervously.
“They’re bad people…”
Maya frowned.
“Who are bad people?”
Morgan: “The uncles in hats…”
‘The police?’
Maya explained patiently, “They’re good people.
They can help you find your mom and dad.
If you run off again, you really will be snatched by bad people.
They’ll either cut you open and sell your organs for money, or they’ll break your legs and make you beg on the street.”
Seeing Morgan’s sullen, aggrieved expression, she lowered her voice and said slowly, “I’m a bad person too.
I tricked you into marrying me with just a piece of bread.
Morgan, don’t trust people so easily.
There are a lot of bad people in this world.”
Morgan looked up.
“You’re not a bad person, and I’m willing to marry you.”
Seeing his serious expression, Maya laughed.
“You say you’re willing when you don’t even know what marriage is.
You’d only be willing because you’re not in your right mind.”
Morgan shook his head.
“You’re good to me, Maya.
I’m willing to do anything.”
Maya’s anger had subsided quite a bit, and her tone softened.
“Alright, let’s go to the police station again later.
No running off this time, okay?”
Morgan’s expression turned grim again, a hint of terror in it.
“No, they hit me…”
No matter how Maya tried to comfort or coax him, he absolutely refused to go to the police station.
Maya was at her wit’s end with him and could only decide to think of a long-term plan.
She was overheated from running around earlier, and she now habitually tugged at her collar to fan herself.
She saw Morgan’s gaze land on her chest, his mouth slightly agape, looking like he wanted to say something but was holding back.
Puzzled, Maya looked down and realized her sweat-soaked white T-shirt was clinging to her body.
She raised her hand and smacked him on the head.
“You little pervert, where are you looking!”
