Wang Zhen thought Xu Mian’s personality was just too cool.
She looked at Xu Mian with admiration.
For some reason or maybe it was just her imagination she even felt that Xu Mian’s eyes were very similar to the final racer’s!
She was about to speak, when Li Lai snorted, “Just you, Wang Zhen?”
Wang Zhen pressed her lips together.
Li Lai sneered, “Wang Zhen, you know your own situation, right? At school, your grades were at the very bottom. Back when you got into the nursing school, it was all because of cramming, brushing by, and luck due to under-enrollment. What skills could you possibly have?”
As soon as Li Lai’s words fell, Yin Lai shouted from the ambulance, “Hurry over here! People’s lives are at stake! If you want to chat, go home!”
Li Lai and Wang Zhen immediately rushed over.
Xu Mian wasn’t paying much attention; she walked over casually in her white coat, as if taking a stroll.
The patient was an elderly person who had suddenly suffered a heart attack.
Yin Lai was performing emergency care while asking Li Lai and Wang Zhen, “What tests should be done at this moment?”
The impromptu test caught them off guard.
Yin Lai disliked students who came prepared; he wanted to see how the interns performed under pressure, as it would count toward their internship grades.
Li Lai blushed.
Wang Zhen gripped her hands at her side.
Both of them looked equally confused.
Xu Mian stood behind Wang Zhen and quietly said a few words.
When Yin Lai was about to explode in anger, Wang Zhen instinctively followed Xu Mian’s instructions.
Her instructions even included highly technical foreign medical terminology.
Yin Lai was stunned.
Li Lai tilted her head and looked at Wang Zhen. “How could you possibly understand this?”
Wang Zhen glanced at Xu Mian; Xu Mian looked out the window.
Yin Lai, busy, pushed the patient into the observation room.
Xu Mian’s gaze remained fixed outside as she calmly said, “Do a CT scan. The vitals are abnormal. Find the cause it’s not necessarily all heart-related.”
Wang Zhen froze again.
After recovering, she hurriedly asked Yin Lai.
From inside the observation room came Yin Lai’s roar: “This is a heart problem! Why a CT scan?!”
Li Lai listened to the director yelling and smirked proudly, “Just answering a minor question, and now she thinks she’s a genius doctor.”
Facing the director’s anger, Wang Zhen inexplicably felt determined.
“Director, just do a CT scan!”
The director was speechless. “If you want a CT scan, give me a reason why?”
Wang Zhen couldn’t explain. Yin Lai pressed his lips, then directly asked Li Ru from cardiothoracic surgery to consult.
“Do a CT scan,” Li Ru said.
Yin Lai was stunned. “Currently, the patient’s vitals are gradually normal, but I suspect other factors are affecting the external readings. Doing a scan is safer.”
When Li Ru left, he stopped in front of Wang Zhen, smiled, and asked, “What’s your name?”
Everyone in the ER was stunned.
Li Ru, cardiothoracic surgeon at Shengming Hospital, a Kyoto University graduate, once studied under the Kyoto cardiothoracic master Lin Lin. Even though Shengming had declined somewhat, many out-of-province patients still came specifically to him for surgery.
And he…
had agreed with Wang Zhen’s suggestion.
And even asked for her name?!
Wang Zhen immediately panicked and instinctively looked at Xu Mian.
Xu Mian had already moved to the side, back turned, holding a water cup.
At noon, Li Lai blocked Wang Zhen at the doorway. “How do you know all that?”
Wang Zhen whispered, “Xu Mian told me.”
Then they heard a snicker.
“Who?”
“Xu Mian told you? You might as well have said you read it yourself it’d be more believable.”
Xu Die walked in, dressed in designer clothes.
Li Lai called out in delight, “Xiao Die!”
Xiao Die’s father was a shareholder at the hospital; naturally, she wanted to leverage that connection for year-end evaluations.
Xu Die looked down on a chubby girl like Wang Zhen. To Li Lai she said, “I’m here. Where is she? Take me to see if she really is, as you said, breathtakingly handsome.”
Xu Die carried herself like the Xu family’s heiress.
Li Lai led Xu Die out. “Xiao Die, your sister is amazing on her first day, Xie Yan is already orbiting around her.”
Xu Die smiled. “Really? Anyone who can like Xu Mian must be extraordinary ”
Her words froze mid-sentence.
Xu Die was stunned.
Yesterday, Xie Yan had been in a high-end suit; today, he wore understated slacks and a white shirt, cuffs rolled to the elbows sharp and handsome.
“Is this… Xie Yan?”
With perfect features, long legs, a narrow waist tucked into the shirt elongating his lower body, and slightly narrowed peach-blossom eyes, calm and gentle, exuding a refined charm.
Xu Die felt her heart.
thump!
thump thump!
Racing wildly.
She was smitten.
The next second, the man looked over and gave her a faint smile.
Like snow melting in spring sunlight.
Xu Die’s heart raced faster; she felt it might leap out of her chest!
Then, she saw Xie Yan walking toward her. Her eyes brightened, and she shyly lowered her head.
She whispered, “Hello, my name is ”
Her hand froze mid-air. Xie Yan passed by her.
A pleasant voice spoke in the next second.
“Xu Mian.”
In that moment, Xu Die heard her heart shatter.
She turned in disbelief.
Xie Yan was walking toward Xu Mian, who, as usual, wore that deadpan expression and walked on impassively.
Xu Die narrowed her eyes, clutching her hands tightly.
Xie Yan stopped in place, looking disappointed.
“Hello, Xie Yan. I’m Xu Mian’s sister, Xu Die,” she said, hands behind her back, approaching him.
Xie Yan’s smile faded. He nodded and was about to walk away.
“Xie Yan, don’t be fooled by Xu Mian’s pretty appearance.
While she flirts with you here and with male colleagues in the hospital, on the other side, she’s also flirting with a matchmaking prospect. She’s no innocent little flower you can’t win against her.”
After the words fell,
Xie Yan turned, narrowing his eyes dangerously at Xu Die.
“Matchmaking?”
For some reason, when Xie Yan smiled, it was like spring wind; now, with a cold face, it carried a chilling edge.
Xu Die pursed her lips. “Yes, she wants to introduce me to Lincheng’s Mr. Hua for matchmaking.”
Xie Yan: “Time and place.”
Xu Die was intimidated by Xie Yan’s piercing gaze and whispered the details.
Xie Yan put away his gaze and walked toward his office.
After taking a step, he turned back, staring at Xu Die, speaking deliberately: “She’s not flirting with me, nor with any of the colleagues here. But one thing you were right about this.”
Xu Die: “???”
Xie Yan: “She does have a beautiful appearance, and an interesting soul. It’s just that superficial people like you can’t appreciate it.”
Li Lai: “…”
Xu Die: “…”
