Since Xu Die became the eldest daughter of the Xu family, and entered the board of directors of the Xu Group, she hadn’t felt so completely ignored in a long time!

Her face flushed with anger, and she stomped her foot hard.

“Isn’t he just somewhat good-looking? A bit long-legged, a bit pretty-eyed? He actually thinks he’s some prize catch!”

“All the people around me are wealthy and influential. You’re just a low-level employee at some small hospital’s general office I don’t even look at you!”

Li Lai, knowing Xu Die’s embarrassment and anger, played along: “Right. He’s probably just some rich kid from a small business, full of pride. If he knew who you were, he wouldn’t have been so disrespectful.”

Xu Die snorted twice. “Rich kid? That suit he wore yesterday was borrowed, right? Just a vain little show-off trying to satisfy his ego. Later I’ll tell the director to fire him!”

Hearing this, Li Lai immediately whispered, “Wait, if you don’t want him, leave him to me I like vain people.”

Xu Die, just humiliated, now full of fury, stomped her foot again. “I’m never coming to this crappy place again. It’s dirty and it’ll ruin my new designer shoes!”

After saying that, she stomped off.

Li Lai exhaled, thinking, “Xie Yan’s temper is way too big. He even dares to offend the daughter of a shareholder. He must really enjoy risking his life.”

Li Lai considered reminding Xie Yan of Xu Die’s identity.

Then she saw Xie Yan carrying a delicate lunchbox into the courtyard.

She immediately followed.

Xu Mian was leaning on a bench, basking in the sun.

When someone sat down beside her, she lifted her eyes warily.

Being disturbed, Xu Mian was clearly displeased.

A hint of crimson appeared in her eyes.

The person beside her smiled gently, his peach-blossom eyes slightly upturned, giving off an innocent, harmless vibe. “I saw you weren’t going to the cafeteria, so I brought a meal myself. Want to try it?”

He opened the lunchbox.

Golden crab roe, neatly peeled shrimp, neatly arranged salmon drizzled with a light soy sauce.

A thick, appetizing pork cutlet was laid over the rice.

This was Xu Mian’s favorite combination.

“Want to try it?” Xie Yan asked sincerely. “It’s really good.”

Xu Mian took it, leaned back against the bench, and ate slowly. “The number I gave you yesterday didn’t you contact them?”

Xie Yan watched her eat, a faint smile rising at the corner of his lips.

Xu Mian glanced at him. “With your looks, Lisa shouldn’t have rejected you. Did she give any reason why?”

Xie Yan blinked.

Xu Mian put down the lunchbox. “Don’t feel embarrassed. I don’t like owing people. Every favor has a motive this is just my way. So tell me, why did Lisa reject you?”

Xie Yan looked into Xu Mian’s icy eyes.

He thought: Xu Mian, you’re harder to appease than before.

“She thought I… lacked aptitude.”

Xu Mian frowned. “What?”

Being a star, all you need is looks. What’s aptitude got to do with anything?

She had never known Lisa cared about such nonsense.

“And also… she thought I was too conservative.”

Xu Mian raised an eyebrow. Someone going out of their way to court you is conservative the right word?

Xu Mian looked at Xie Yan and asked, “How conservative? Tell me.”

Xie Yan said seriously, “I don’t accompany clients for drinks, and I don’t ”

Xu Mian nodded, “Not accompany them to bed?”

Lisa’s subordinates were varied, and attending events was mandatory. Not drinking was indeed a problem.

“Then I’ll get you someone else.” Xu Mian seemed a little patient as she finished the perfectly cooked meal. “He’s a director. You should follow the entertainment path. With your looks, you’ll do fine.”

Xie Yan didn’t take the note Xu Mian handed him.

She looked at him, expression cold. “What do you mean?”

Xie Yan pressed his lips. “I want you to personally guide me.”

Xu Mian was silent for a few seconds, crumpled the note, and threw it into the trash. “Dream on. Might be faster.”

She put down the lunchbox and left.

Xie Yan sat there, watching her back, smiling lightly. “Still as quick to turn away as ever.”

Secretary Wang Hao came in and saw Xie Yan put the lunchbox away.

He whispered, “General Xie, I heard Shen Yanci arranged dinner tonight with Director Li of Banghui Media.”

Xie Yan looked up deliberately at Wang Hao. “What?”

Wang Hao said, “At the Haosheng Hotel. No private room reserved.”

Xie Yan’s eyes darkened slightly. “Shen Yanci deliberately didn’t book a private room, intentionally making it visible, so it reaches Xu Mian’s ears.”

Wang Hao said, “Seems that’s the case.”

Xie Yan’s expression remained calm as he adjusted his sleeves and buttoned his coat.

“Tell Shenghao’s manager to allow only our reporters in. Arrange a luxury presidential suite for Director Cheng upstairs. Tell him: life is short may her wishes come true.”

Wang Hao smiled faintly. “Understood, General Xie.”

Xu Mian yawned, leaning against a side while starting work.

Li Lai complained to Yin Lai, “Why is a person like that still in the ER?”

Yin Lai glanced at Xu Mian, whose gaze was cool and calm, considering telling the director to transfer her so she wouldn’t affect anyone else.

Wang Zhen whispered to Yin Lai, “Director, those things this morning, Xu Mian told me. She’s really capable. The ER is quiet now, so even standing and resting doesn’t impact anyone. Only people with unstable temperaments think it affects her.”

Li Lai, furious, shouted, “What do you mean?! Who are you calling unstable?”

Wang Zhen shrank her neck.

Yin Lai looked at Xu Mian.

Those things this morning were told by Xu Mian?

But her file said she dropped out of high school, right?

So… was it just a coincidence?

Yin Lai pondered carefully.

Near the end of the shift, an emergency case came in. Yin Lai intentionally tested Xu Mian.

Xu Mian glanced at the time. “Shift’s over, and I don’t know this stuff, so no need to test me.”

After saying that, she went to the changing room.

Yin Lai shook his head. She really is just a wealthy heiress. Those things this morning must have been a coincidence.

Xu Mian left the hospital. Li Lai drove out and saw her standing at the bus stop. She smirked, “Oh so this is the ‘privileged connection’ to our hospital? The Xu family heiress, without even a car?”

Li Lai raised an eyebrow. “Looks like the Xu family recognizes only one heiress Xu Die. No wonder Xu Die joined the Xu Group board, and you were sent to this place.”

Xu Mian didn’t bother arguing with Li Lai.

She casually sat down at the bus stop.

Then came the blaring, arrogant honk.

A flashy, red car screeched to a stop in front of her. The window rolled down, revealing a sleazy-looking man.

He wore a very conspicuous gold chain around his neck.

“You’re Xu Mian, right?”

“I’m Cheng Yu, the matchmaking prospect your mother introduced to you.”
