Vivid roses swayed and bloomed in the night breeze.
Unspeakably beautiful, lush and glistening.
Chen Si’s face went pale. Trembling, he turned on every light in the apartment and hurried to the balcony, staring at the roses before him in disbelief, half convinced it was all just his imagination.
But when he stepped closer and picked up the pot, he found it wasn’t.
It really was a bouquet of roses.
Goosebumps rose all over him as Chen Si stared at the roses.
Terrified, his hand slipped the roses, pot and all, crashed to the floor.
With a bang, the pot shattered to pieces, and everything inside spilled out.
As if suddenly remembering something, Chen Si went back to the bedroom to check.
He found that the cash, bank cards, and passbooks in his drawer were all still there.
Nothing in the apartment was missing.
The only thing added was a bouquet of roses.
His legs gave out, and Chen Si collapsed to the floor.
In the bedroom, Chen Si didn’t turn on the lights.
He had lived in this apartment for a while now. The landlord was a kind, amiable old man who had already settled abroad with his children, so it was impossible for him to suddenly come back.
Chen Si was the only one with a key. He had no close friends, and being an orphan with no parents, he didn’t even have coworkers he hung out with, nor had he ever provoked anyone.
So who could it be?
His mind a haze, Chen Si could not figure it out no matter how he thought.
He even began to wonder if he had remembered wrong.
After all, he was just an ordinary Beta not good-looking either. Who would go to such lengths for him?
Thinking groggily, Chen Si went to the bathroom to shower. Passing the mirror, he caught sight of how pale his face was and couldn’t help stopping to look himself over.
Behind his black-framed glasses, Chen Si’s eyes were so dark they almost gleamed, the most striking feature of his face.
But because he always wore glasses and kept bangs, few people ever saw him like this.
His face wasn’t exquisite, merely delicate and refined.
As a Beta, Chen Si stood at 175 cm not short, but not tall either.
His build was just right, neither too thin nor too fat.
With his glasses on, hiding those dark gleaming eyes, he was the kind of person who would disappear into any crowd, utterly invisible.
And yet even so, he had not escaped an Alpha’s clutches.
He touched the back of his neck, at the bite mark that throbbed with dull pain.
Chen Si closed his eyes, humiliation in his gaze.
He refused to think about that Alpha again. In the shower, no longer even fearing the pain, he scrubbed hard at the bite mark, trying in this self-harming way to erase the trace the Alpha had left on his body.
But the harder he scrubbed, the more it hurt, the redder it became.
It was all as if reminding him of the fact that he had been violated by an Alpha.
It wasn’t that Chen Si hadn’t thought of going after that Alpha, but in today’s society, Alphas held the highest status.
Even if he really did go to the police, they likely wouldn’t care.
Worse, they might even mock him.
Looking at him with the most contemptuous, disgusted eyes.
…and accused him, saying he must have given that Alpha some kind of hint otherwise, how could any Alpha possibly take an interest in an unremarkable Beta like him?
Alphas and Omegas were a match made in heaven.
A Beta without pheromones could never catch an Alpha’s eye.
This was an established fact that everyone believed.
So no one would ever believe him…
