Closing his eyes in despair, Chen Si hastily wiped his body dry and returned to bed like a walking corpse, utterly drained of spirit.
He wrapped himself in the blanket and sank into a deep sleep.
Early the next morning, Chen Si took the bus to work as usual.
He didn’t run into that person like he had yesterday.
Chen Si breathed a sigh of relief.
Thinking the matter was over and done with, he relaxed and threw himself into his work.
The company Chen Si worked for wasn’t well known locally just a very small firm. Including the boss, there were only twenty-five people in total. Chen Si was in the technical department, working as a programmer, and the pay was pretty decent.
The company was located in an office building.
There were many businesses inside.
As usual, Chen Si entered the building, and the moment he stepped in, he saw a crowd of people gathered by the elevators.
Many of them were holding banners, looking like fans waiting for a celebrity. They were too far away for Chen Si to make out what was written on the banners, and he didn’t care who these people were waiting for anyway. Seeing that they had blocked the entire entrance, he opted for the fire escape stairs instead.
The company was on the sixth floor. Chen Si didn’t have much stamina and didn’t like exercising, so by the time he reached the third floor, he was done for.
Panting, he leaned on the stair railing to rest. Glancing at the time, he saw it was getting late and didn’t dare waste any more. Swallowing hard, he continued climbing.
But halfway up, he spotted a person wearing a mask and a hat, standing on the steps just a short distance away, watching him.
The pale blue eyes peeking out were half-hidden in the shadow of the hat brim. The man’s light golden hair was tied back with a black hairband. He stood silently on the third step, looking down at Chen Si from above. Who knew what he was thinking his gaze never left Chen Si, yet he didn’t come any closer, as if he were spacing out.
Looking at the tall figure standing nearby, Chen Si guessed he might be an Alpha. Remembering what had happened last night, he instinctively clenched his hands, his face turning somewhat pale as he quickly looked away, planning to pretend he hadn’t seen him and keep walking.
But just as he passed the Alpha, an outstretched arm blocked his way.
“Wait a moment. Are you a Beta?”
“What is it?”
“Could you help me with something?” the Alpha said, his eyes burning into Chen Si as if he wanted to devour him, his gaze full of aggression.
It made Chen Si instinctively feel afraid.
So he hesitated.
“What kind of favor?”
“Help me buy a Suppressant.”
The Alpha said flatly, his body swaying unsteadily, as if to prove his words. Startled, Chen Si instinctively reached out to steady him, and immediately noticed that the Alpha’s hand was indeed burning hot. So he really was in Rut.
“Okay, wait here for me.”
An Alpha in Rut was extremely dangerous and vulnerable, and this was inside an office building. If he were left like this, it could cause serious consequences. As a Beta, Chen Si couldn’t just stand by and watch.
After hesitating for three seconds, he made his decision.
Helping the Alpha over to sit at the side, he immediately went to the nearest pharmacy and bought the Suppressant.
When he came back, the Alpha was still sitting there. Seeing him, the Alpha looked at him very obediently and said weakly, “You’re back.”
Chen Si nodded.
Then he handed the Suppressant over to him.
But the Alpha didn’t take it.
