Last night, Grandpa had separately gone to see the five Zhang brothers. He mainly wanted to give them a warning, telling Zhang’s Fifth Brother to keep a few local dogs and some large white geese at home to prevent the yellow weasels and foxes from going to their house and causing trouble.
However, the five Zhang brothers all assumed that Grandpa was standing up for my father and was planning to deal with them. The brothers were so frightened that they did not even dare leave their house.
Early the next morning, Zhang’s Eldest Brother wanted to go find his Fifth Brother and discuss whether they should go together to my house and apologize to my father. After all, they were all from the same village, and what they had done was indeed wrong. They would still have to see each other in the future, and they could not let things become this awkward between them.
But when Zhang’s Eldest Brother pushed open the door and entered the house, he was so terrified that he dropped straight onto the floor.
The moment he opened the door, he saw Zhang’s Fifth Brother hanging from a roof beam. As the wind blew, his body gently swayed from the beam.
Zhang’s Fifth Brother had died in an extremely bizarre manner. His tongue was sticking far out, his eyes were wide open, and the whites of his eyes were covered with blood-red veins. His face had turned a dark purplish-red.
Even more frighteningly, there was still a faint smile on Zhang’s Fifth Brother’s face, with the corners of his mouth slightly raised.
That smile was exactly the same as the one on Third Brother Ma’s wife’s face when she died.
After taking only one look, Zhang’s Eldest Brother was so terrified that he wet himself and ran into the village to call people over.
When everyone arrived at Zhang’s Fifth Brother’s room, someone quickly noticed that Zhang’s Fifth Brother was not the only one hanging from the roof beam.
There was actually a yellow weasel hanging there as well.
The yellow weasel was hanging less than two meters away from Zhang’s Fifth Brother, side by side with him.
The yellow weasel had exchanged its own life for Zhang’s Fifth Brother’s life.
The villagers were terrified when they saw this bizarre scene. For a while, they stood around discussing it, but no one dared to step forward and take Zhang’s Fifth Brother down from the beam.
In their area, yellow weasels were all referred to as “Yellow Immortals.” The villagers both revered and feared these creatures.
Since it was a Yellow Immortal that had harmed someone, who would dare risk offending it? If things went badly, they might end up suffering the same fate as Zhang’s Fifth Brother.
When Grandpa heard about what had happened, he went over to take a look, bringing Granny Liu with him.
The moment Granny Liu saw the yellow weasel hanging beside Zhang’s Fifth Brother, her expression instantly changed. She said somewhat fearfully, “This is bad. It looks like something major is about to happen.”
Grandpa saw that Zhang’s Fifth Brother’s corpse was still hanging from the roof beam. He swept his eyes over the crowd and said coldly, “With so many people here, none of you know how to take the body down? Does it look right leaving him hanging here like this?”
Still, none of the villagers dared move.
Grandpa had no choice but to walk over, bring a chair, and climb up to take Zhang’s Fifth Brother’s body down from the roof beam.
By then, someone had already brought over a blanket. Grandpa gently placed Zhang’s Fifth Brother’s already-stiff corpse on it.
At this point, several of the Zhang brothers were present. When they saw Grandpa arrive, the somewhat brazen Zhang’s Second Brother suddenly stepped forward. Pointing directly at Grandpa’s nose, he said, “Old Wu, stop pretending to be so kind here! Our Fifth Brother was killed by someone from your Wu Family. Who doesn’t know that your family gave birth to a freak? He’s a bastard born from your daughter-in-law and a Yellow Immortal! All these years, every night, so many yellow weasels and foxes have been bringing things to your house. All we brothers did was beat up your son. Did you really have to make the yellow weasel kill our Fifth Brother?”
As soon as he said this, the other Zhang brothers immediately became emboldened and also stepped forward to accuse Grandpa.
Grandpa’s expression turned cold as he looked at the Zhang brothers.
“You bunch of damn idiots! Taking advantage of the fact that I wasn’t home, all of you brothers ganged up on the people of my Wu Family and bullied them. Not only did you beat up my son, you even laid hands on my daughter-in-law and grandson. Your own biological brother was hanging from the roof beam, and none of you even bothered to take him down. I helped you get him down, and you still have the nerve to yell at me? What, you want to fight this Old Wu? Come on, give it a try!”
As he spoke, Grandpa narrowed his eyes and glared fiercely at the Zhang brothers, his eyes filled with murderous intent.
Grandpa was an imposing man to begin with. Whenever he lost his temper, the killing aura radiating from him was intimidating.
How could the brothers dare say another word of nonsense?
At this moment, Granny Liu also stepped forward and said, “Enough. Say a few less words. The dead are to be respected above all else. First, take care of the deceased properly. Zhang’s Fifth Brother was not killed by anyone from the Wu Family. It was because you offended the Yellow Immortal that you brought this great disaster upon yourselves. Let this matter end here.”
Everyone present knew that Granny Liu was the most famous Spirit Medium in the surrounding villages and was highly respected.
Since she had said that this matter had nothing to do with the Wu Family, the Zhang brothers had nothing more to say.
However, Zhang’s Second Brother was still seething with anger. He stared fixedly at the yellow weasel hanging from the roof beam. Then, he suddenly did something completely unexpected.
He took a shovel from behind the door and knocked the corpse of the yellow weasel down from the roof beam.
After the yellow weasel’s corpse fell to the ground, Zhang’s Second Brother was still not satisfied. He raised the shovel and began viciously smashing it against the corpse.
When Granny Liu saw this, she hurried over to stop him.
“Don’t show disrespect to the Yellow Immortal! You’ve already brought disaster upon yourselves. If you keep doing this, you’ll suffer terrible misfortune.”
But Zhang’s Second Brother completely ignored her. As he swung the shovel down against the yellow weasel’s corpse, he said viciously, “That yellow weasel killed my brother. Can’t I at least hit it a few times to vent my anger?”
After several blows from the shovel, the yellow weasel’s corpse had already been smashed into a bloody, mangled mass of flesh.
Even though Granny Liu tried to stop him, it was already too late. She could only stare at the pool of mangled flesh and sigh repeatedly.
Grandpa returned home angrily, and Granny Liu left with him. Along the way, Granny Liu’s expression was extremely grim, and she kept smoking her long-stemmed tobacco pipe.
After they returned home, Granny Liu sat down and let out a sigh.
“Little Jie is simply destined to have this fate. Every three years, there is a calamity. Either he dies, or someone else dies. Sure enough, this calamity has come to pass again. But this matter isn’t over yet. I’m afraid the Zhang Family won’t be able to have any peace for a while.”
Grandpa had already returned home full of anger. Hearing what Granny Liu said, he asked in confusion, “Zhang’s Fifth Brother is already dead. What else could possibly happen?”
Granny Liu helplessly shook her head.
“I can’t say for sure either. No one knows what the Yellow Immortal is thinking. But Zhang’s Second Brother just desecrated the Yellow Immortal’s corpse. I’m afraid he’s going to suffer for it.”
“How is this still not over…? Will something happen to my grandson?” Grandpa asked worriedly.
“I can’t say for sure either. We can only wait and see,” Granny Liu replied.
Unexpectedly, Granny Liu’s words came true very soon.
That very night, something major happened.
After Zhang’s Fifth Brother died, they had not yet had the chance to place his body in a coffin and prepare him for burial.
Yet, not long after night fell, he suddenly sat upright on the bed.
He had actually come back to life.
That sight nearly scared the several Zhang brothers out of their minds.
