“Well, we’ve finally reached the cave, but it’s pretty long.”
A few days had passed since our battle with the spider-like monster, and we had arrived at a cave where a wyvern was said to have taken up residence.
Last time, we had reached the top of the forest, collected the elixir, and returned right away, so I hadn’t realized there was a place like this. I don’t think there was a scene of this cave in the anime either.
We encountered some monsters along the way through the damp cave, but since both Lilina and Alisha had gotten stronger, we were able to make decent progress into the cave without too much trouble.
I glanced at Alisha, who was walking beside me, and murmured thoughtfully.
“Alisha has learned ‘Concealment’ now, so she’s practically a full-fledged sniper.”
“I’m glad to hear you say that.”
Alisha replied with a smile.
“Elves often go hunting, so we’re naturally sensitive to our surroundings. I think that helped me learn quickly. I’m really glad I picked it up before the battle with the wyvern.”
On our way here, Alisha had supported us with her archery multiple times, striking from positions where she wouldn’t be detected by the monsters. To avoid unnecessary combat as much as possible, we’d also used ‘Concealment’ together, and in the process, Alisha acquired the skill as well.
… Now that every member of the party has ‘Concealment,’ we really do seem like a gang up to no good.
But having both a sniper and an assassin in the party actually makes me feel pretty confident.
As I was musing on this, Lilina tugged on my sleeve beside me.
“Lloyd-sama, what about me? Am I being helpful too?”
“Of course you are. You’ve even learned how to redirect attacks with ‘Flow.’ You’re becoming a real master, Lilina. You’re truly reliable.”
“Hehehe, really? This might be the power of love!”
Lilina said, blushing and wagging her silver tail enthusiastically, clearly delighted with the compliment.
While Alisha had been actively taking down monsters on the way here, Lilina had also been acquiring new skills and steadily growing stronger. According to her, “I was fighting with a strong desire to be useful to Lloyd-sama, and before I knew it, I had a new skill! It might just be the power of love!” She’d said it with a completely serious face.
Under normal circumstances, that might be hard to believe, but with the “heroine power-up” effect in play, it’s not something I can easily dismiss. Still, I’m just happy to see her growing stronger.
“Huh? Now that I think about it, there are fewer monsters around here.”
Up until a little while ago, we’d been encountering various monsters, but it’s been several minutes since we last ran into any.
As I wondered why, Lilina perked up her silver ears, listening closely.
Her expression suddenly grew tense.
“Lilina?”
“Lloyd-sama, I can hear a huge noise coming from up ahead.”
“A huge noise?”
I listened closely with Alisha, then we exchanged glances and tilted our heads in confusion.
Apparently, Lilina could hear something that neither of us could.
“Well, let’s head forward carefully.”
Lilina and Alisha nodded in agreement.
Using our *Concealment* skill, we cautiously made our way deeper into the cave.
After progressing a bit further, a faint light began to filter in from ahead.
Wondering what it could be, I peeked out from behind a rock and saw an opening in the cave’s ceiling. Sunlight streamed in through it, casting a mystical glow across the area.
“…It’s beautiful, but this isn’t the time to be awestruck.”
In the glow stood a large creature, its body illuminated. Covered in pale blue scales and sporting huge wings, it was much larger than the iguana-like monster we’d fought before—this one looked downright prehistoric.
And it made sense, too.
Because standing before us was our target: the wyvern.
