“WHAT HAPPENED?

WHAT HAPPENED?” Ethan shouted as soon as he arrived.

“Did you call an ambulance?” He asked.Full novel: IGNITING LOVE — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

” No one is answering me,” he shouted.

He lifted Ashley’s frail body lying on the floor.

There was no blood and that scared him the most.

Quickly, he rushed into his car and drove off to the hospital..

Gunshots.

Blood.

More blood.

Bodies.

Wait bodies?

What is going on?

“These people are dangerous, Ashley ”

“I know”

Heavy breathing .

“I want out.”

“I’ll help you”

Blurred faces, muffled voices.

Elisa shot her eyes wide open, gasping for breath as if she was being chased.

She looked around her.

The hospital..

Every damn time.

She pulled out the IV attached to her arm and other things that were placed on her body as she tried to get up hastily to leave.

“I need to go,” she mumbled, but her legs didn’t move.

That was when she calmed down..

The realization that even if she wanted to run away from certain things, she couldn’t.

Elisa broke down in tears.

The nurse that was assigned to her came in and saw her crying and left to tell her family members that she was awake..

Ethan was handling business matters but as he saw the nurse approach him, he quickly ended the call .

“She’s awake sir” The nurse informed and Ethan nodded.

He took long strides to the room and opened the door.

When he saw her crying, he was a little taken back, and something shifted in him.

Without saying anything, he sat beside her on the bed.

Elisa looked at him confusingly.

But as she saw his calm inviting face, she knew he was trying to give her a shoulder to cry on, and she took it.

She held him, her arms wrapped around his neck and back.

She wasn’t crying anymore, she was wailing, and bawling.

She buried her face in his chest and bailed her eyes hurt until she couldn’t cry anymore. Enjoying the story? Read on at g.com.

They stayed like that for a long while and Ethan didn’t know when his hands went to her back and head, patting her gently.

Elisa sniffed.

Her nose was filled with catarrh and some were already dripping down.

“I’m sorry” she said in a tiny voice.

Before Ethan could understand why she was apologising, she blew her nose on his shirt.

Ethan twitched, but he didn’t move.

His hands paused on their movements and his expression shifted.

Elisa couldn’t see his face, but he had mixed expressions as he sat there.

Elisa felt better than she was when she woke up and she eventually fell asleep in his arms..

Ethan who had been stiff for a while realised that her head was rolling off his chest and he caught it immediately and looked at her face.

That was when he saw that she was asleep.

He turned and gently placed her head on the pillow before getting up.

He looked at his shirt in confusion, the drool was still there, the tears.

He looked at his hands and all he saw was his clear skin.

He pulled out his phone from his pockets and dialed a number..

“Ethan Walker, I am quite—”

“I just got cried on, and nothing happened.

”

The person on the other line sighed.

“Well good for you, tell your—”

“Stop it Xavier”

The person sighed again..

“You know I didn’t study medicine just for you, right?

I have patients here that needs attending to”

“While you were busy making all these statements, you would have said something concerning what I said”

“Well tell me what happened” The person said in resignation..

He looked back at Ashley’s peaceful face and stopped outside.

“Well my wife, she was crying and I just sat there and she cried on me and then proceeded to blow her nose on my shirt” Ethan said and the more he explained, the more baffled he felt.

There was silence on the other end of the line.

”You realize what you’re saying, right?” Xavier’s voice dropped the teasing tone, becoming clinical.

“For fifteen years, a stray hair on your sleeve was enough to give you a phantom rash for three days.

You’ve had panic attacks over handshake protocols.

Now you’re telling me you sat through a literal biohazard on your chest and your skin didn’t react?”

There was a heavy pause over the line.

”Ethan, biology doesn’t care about your logic or your deals.

If your nervous system stayed quiet while she was that close, it means she’s not a ‘trigger’ to you anymore.

“How is that even possible?

You know how it is.

I don’t love her if that’s what you’re getting at,”

“You didn’t just ‘get cried on,’ Ethan.

You stayed.

You patted her head.

You held her while she fell asleep.

For a man with your…

sensitivities…

that’s not just a medical breakthrough.

That’s a surrender.

Your body is reacting to her presence as a sedative rather than a threat.

Whether you love her or not is irrelevant to me as a doctor; what matters is that she’s the only ‘cure’ I’ve ever seen work on you.”

“So all I can say is, keep her close.

Let’s see if you improve and we’ll also compare if it’s just her” Xavier added.

Ethan hung up without responding to him.

He watched Ashley through the creaked door for a few minutes before shaking his head and walking back inside.

Elisa woke up hours later and saw that Ethan was still there but he had changed his shirt.

“You never wear something other than dark colors?”

Ethan didn’t look up from his tablet immediately.

He was now wearing a crisp, charcoal-grey button-down.

It was a replacement he’d had his assistant deliver to the hospital wing an hour ago.

“You’re awake,” he noted, shifting the subject.

“The doctor said you could have some water once you were conscious.

How is your head?”

“It hurts.

” As if just remembering all that happened, her eyes widened.

“That nurse pushed me”

“What?”

“The new nurse.

Uh…

Lola” Elisa snapped.

Ethan took one deep breath and took off his reading glasses.

“Your head must really hurt.

You fell on your own”

“What? No—” but Ethan signalled for her to calm down.

“She saved your life.

She was the one that called me.

She said she went to get a coat for you and when she returned, she saw you lying there” Ethan replied and Elisa’s eyes widened in shock.
