Before he could even react, a fireball was already flying towards him, barely missing his head. ’’Wait, wait, Merency, I can explain this.’’ A second flew towards him, nearly burning his feet.
But she didn’t answer; she only continued to shoot magic at him as she seemed about to start crying.
Jumping over another attack, Steven thought about maybe knocking her out to calm her down, but attacking a royal princess could have major consequences.
She also didn’t really seem to be in a panic, more angry towards him. ’’Let’s calm down and talk about this.’’ He continued trying to convince her.
Until suddenly a knock could be heard from the door as both of them froze. ’’Lady Moonstone, is everything alright in there?’’ Her security? This was bad, no worse than bad.
I will enter now! Her guard proclaimed. If he gets caught in a position like this with a princess, being expelled from school would be the easiest way out, but if she really wanted it, he might even get imprisoned or executed.
Staring at her in desperation, she slowly seemed to realise the situation. As the door slowly opened, Steven thought about jumping out the window again, but that would only make him more suspicious-looking.
Until he was suddenly shoved hard back from Merency, who had grabbed his hand and shoved him down on the broken bed.
As the door slowly opened, a man in red armor walked through, his helmet hiding all his features. But he could only find the princess lying in bed with somebody, but it wasn’t what it looked like at first glance.
No, the princess was hugging this guy, comfortable with all the warmth in the world, and the guy was just lying there. It looked more like the princess was forcing herself onto him and not the opposite.
The guard stopped in his tracks in the middle of the room, quickly turning his head away. ’’Oh, I am so sorry, my princess; I didn’t know you had a visitor of this kind.’’
Steven could only watch what was happening, still trying to breathe as the princess was holding his throat with all her might.
’’Out now!’’ She screamed at the guard who probably left faster than he ever moved.
Only after the door slammed shut. He was finally released from her grip.
As he fell down to the floor, trying to breathe, he could see her face having turned into a tomato while she was shaking.
’’Explain now or I will call him back!’’ She spoke while staring at the floor, not even glancing at him.
Slowly rising, Steven stepped away from her as he walked over to the broken window. Pointing outside. ’’I was followed by some people and had to escape. I didn’t know this was your room.’’
As he could watch her staring down at the courtyard now filled with guards arresting people. Edward seemed to have disappeared too.
As she slowly nodded, Steven finally could feel his heart beat again.
With her sitting down on the broken bed, Steven already made his move to climb out of the window to escape. ’’No, you can’t go yet.’’ She spoke with her voice in a panic. ’’If this guard even tells a single soul I was found together with a man in bed, I won’t ever leave this room again.’’
Steven stared at her, paralysed by the stupidity of their world. ’’What do you want me to do? Kill him? Sorry, but I won’t.’’
But he could only watch her shake her head in denial. ’’Well then, I must make it official.’’
’’Official? What are you going to make official?’’ Steven asked confusedly what this princess was talking about.
Until she stood up, making her way towards him and grabbing him by his shirt. ’’You will be my boyfriend... for at least a few weeks.’’ Her tone was a mix of anger and uncertainty.
But Steven could only feel like he was about to faint; this day had already been terrible enough. ’’What? No...’’ He tried to talk to her but realised it would be of no use. Either her stupid plan or jail.
Steven stared at her.
"I’d rather fight those assassins again." He mumbled, while staring down at them but it was already too late for that.
Only debating for a small moment if he could escape prison, he answered. ’’Okay but only until everything has cooled down.’’ He answered; his tone was flat and deprived of any motivation for life.
’’Good, then I will talk to my guard; you can leave after.’’ She spoke confidently about her plan. But Steven only cleared his throat, pointing at her. ’’You might want to change clothes first.’’
As he watched her already red face turn into a dark red tone. You... ’’You’re right... Stay here.’’ As she disappeared through a door on the left.
Something didn’t make sense in this whole situation; her mana had stayed completely calm during her attack, and she had not even once called for the guard herself.
But now it was already too late, as she returned dressed in her school uniform, her face now only in a pinkish tone.
As she signalled him to wait, he watched her disappear through the main door until she returned a moment later. ’’You can go now, and don’t forget at least two weeks.’’
Noding at her in agreement, he made his way to the door. Walking past the guard, who only gave him a harsh, welcoming nod.
Walking her empty corridor, he could hear Merency opening the door too as her mana suddenly surged in excitement.
Steven turned around to stare at her from the distance. But he could only see her whispering something to the guard, as she paced around like a child who just got a new toy.
Stepping through the corridor’s door, he was finally in the shared area again. But he had already been being watched by multiple maid stationed coincidences around this exit.
Steven felt like he had walked into a trap by her.
But he just couldn’t understand what she was gaining from it.
So he had no other choice than to play along.
