Feng Chi’s eyes widened slightly. He stared blankly for several seconds before coming back to himself.
“When did your Guide Pheromone and Ability awaken?”
“Yesterday.”
She had never planned to hide it.
In her previous life, she had been an Ordinary Person. In this life, too, she had been an Ordinary Person for the first eighteen years.
Back on Blue Star, surveillance had already been widespread, with all kinds of systems connected to the internet. In the interstellar world of today, it was even more pervasive. Ordinary people had no privacy at all.
She didn’t think someone with her abilities could hide them from the various powers in the stars. So what was there to conceal?
Besides, as her game level increased, more and more skills would unlock, and her abilities would only grow stronger. There was no way she could keep them hidden.
Anyway, if anyone asked, she could just say she didn’t know why it had happened and let them guess for themselves.
As long as she didn’t break the law or collude with aliens, her identity as a Guide was her lifeline.
“Yesterday?” Feng Chi was even more astonished. “You awakened as a Guide and developed both an Ability and Guide Pheromone on the same day? You should be an SSS-rank Guide. How could you possibly be F-rank? Did something go wrong?”
As an S-rank Sentinel, it had taken him about three days to awaken his Ability and Spirit Body.
Feng Zhi looked bewildered. “I’m not really sure, either. But I’ve been tested twice, and both times the result was F-rank.”
“Forget it. Whatever. I’m alive and kicking, and it’s not like my life’s in danger.”
Feng Chi’s brows furrowed so deeply they could have crushed a fly, but this was the first time he’d encountered a situation like this, so he had no choice but to let it go.
He studied Feng Zhi carefully. Her expression was clear, and her cheeks had a healthy flush; she didn’t look as though anything was wrong. He relaxed a little, though he was still uneasy. “How about we go to the hospital tomorrow and get you checked out?”
Feng Zhi blinked. “Sure. You should get checked out, too. We can both have a physical.”
“Afterward, we can pick up a few more outfits. I heard that after awakening, both Sentinels and Guides keep growing. We should buy plenty of clothes.”
After dinner, Feng Chi cleared the table while Feng Zhi switched on the room’s ventilation system. Once she’d aired out all the smells, she took out her Guide Essence.
“Do you want to try smelling it on your own first, or should we try this Guide Essence Patch?”
Smell it?
Smell what?
Feng Zhi’s Guide Pheromone?
Feng Chi’s face turned red at once. He felt a little shy, but there was no way he’d let such a good opportunity pass him by.
His fingers trembled slightly as he said, full of anticipation, “I want to smell it first.”
“Come on.” Feng Zhi sat on the sofa and crooked a finger at him, smiling.
Feng Chi swallowed. His ears felt scorching hot.
He drew a deep breath and walked over, moving closer to Feng Zhi.
Feng Zhi swept up her hair, baring her long, slender, pale neck.
Feng Chi stiffened, then slowly leaned toward her neck. His eyes closed instinctively, and his nostrils flared, but he couldn’t smell a thing.
Feng Zhi: …
She was amused, and a little helpless. Was he really this innocent?
“You’re so far away. What could you possibly smell? Why don’t you open your eyes and take a look?”
Feng Chi went rigid, then opened his eyes and leaned closer.
He tried hard to keep his gaze from wandering, but he still caught sight of her delicate collarbones. The round neckline of her shirt traced a soft curve below them, and from his angle, he could just make out the fullness beneath.
Heat inexplicably spread through his body. Feng Chi discreetly adjusted his posture, embarrassed.
To avoid making an even bigger fool of himself, he decided to get it over with quickly. He leaned in close and carefully smelled Feng Zhi’s neck.
In an instant, a warm, soothing sensation enveloped him. He felt a comfort that reached from his body to his soul, and he couldn’t help wanting to moan aloud.
He wanted to feel more.
His body moved forward of its own accord. His lips brushed Feng Zhi’s pale neck, and his arms wrapped around her without his realizing it.
Feng Zhi shivered. Where his lips had touched her, it felt as though an electric current had passed over her skin.
Her breathing caught for a moment, but she didn’t push him away.
“Feng Zhi, Feng Zhi…” Feng Chi held her tighter and tighter, his lips pressed to her neck, unwilling to move.
The skin beneath his lips was so soft that he couldn’t help sticking out his tongue to lick it, then suckling at it.
“Mmm…” Feng Zhi’s eyes drifted half-shut, and her body went limp. A soft moan slipped from her lips.
The sound beside his ear made Feng Chi even more excited. His tousled hair brushed Feng Zhi’s cheek as he licked all over her neck like a dog gnawing at a bone, then bit her lightly.
Licking from one side of her neck to the other, Feng Chi moved upward, leaving a trail of kisses across her face before tentatively touching the corner of her lips.
He licked lightly, tasting the faint trace of fruit juice still there. Unable to resist, he wanted to draw more from her.
He pulled his face back a little, breathing hard. “Feng Zhi, can I kiss you?”
Feng Zhi narrowed her eyes in pleasure, hooked an arm around Feng Chi’s neck, and leaned toward him of her own accord.
Their lips met, and both let out a sigh.
Feng Chi couldn’t help slipping his tongue out, tracing Feng Zhi’s lips carefully before gently parting her teeth.
Feng Zhi followed his lead. The moment their lips touched, they both found themselves wanting more.
What a strange feeling. Their lips were soft and springy, like jelly, yet there was a sweetness to it that made it impossible to stop.
Before long, Feng Chi had Feng Zhi pinned beneath him.
Feng Zhi was getting lost in the sensation, but his clumsy movements soon brought her back to her senses. Then he bit her tongue, and the pain made her twitch. Her hand swept across the table, knocking a cup to the floor.
The cup hit with a thud, and they both came to their senses.
Realizing what he was doing, Feng Chi froze.
He couldn’t understand how things had ended up like this. He’d only meant to smell Feng Zhi’s Guide Pheromone, but now they were kissing—and not only that, he’d been licking and biting her.
He should have let go immediately and apologized. But his body seemed to have a mind of its own: instead of releasing her, he held her even tighter.
Feeling his arms tighten around her, Feng Zhi frowned slightly and shifted. “You’re holding me a little too tightly. Let go first.”
“Oh…” Feng Chi released her in a fluster, then realized what was happening and hurriedly grabbed a cushion to cover himself from the waist down.
“Feng Zhi… I… I…”
He stammered, not knowing how to face her.
Feng Zhi touched the corner of her mouth, sounding a little disgruntled. “You’re a terrible kisser. You just bit me and it hurt.”
Feng Chi lowered his head in shame. “It was my first time. I don’t know what I’m doing.”
“Are you… going to hate me?”
