The first Test, the 50-meter dash, was soon to begin.
I glanced around and noticed that most of my classmates were nervously shifting while preparing for the test. Though soon enough their nervous expressions were changed into gazes of determination, only Mineta and Midoriya, who were muttering to himself continue trembling.
It's impressive how their moods can change that fast, but considering they are here to be hero it's understandable. Then again, I have no doubt Aizawa would actually expel someone if they didn't meet his standards.
Speaking of this, it seems that the one I ended up replacing is Mashirao Ojiro, the guy with the tail quirk.
I suppose he was placed in class 1B. As for the one he replaced over there, I don't know, but what a waste. I liked the guy; couldn't they have taken Mineta instead? Little shit is still a pervert.
He has been leering at the girls since we were out of the locker room.
Soon the race began, and the students took turns going in pairs chosen by Aizawa.
The first two, Yuga Aoyama and Mina Ashido, were the first to go.
Although Yuga used his navel laser to propel forward, he collapsed midway and was overtaken by Ashido. The other pairs continued, with the fastest thus far being Tenya Ida, whose engine quirk gave him the advantage, allowing him to accelerate at incredible speeds.
He set the record for the class at 3.04 seconds.
Soon, it was my turn. I stepped onto the starting line, I raised my arm and timed so that the moment Aizawa signals the start of the race, I could grab the foot of the black ghost who flew by me.
I arrived at the finish line faster than expected at 3.81 seconds. Placing me in second place in the overall ranking. Not bad.
The second Test, the grip strength test, 'This is too easy for me.' All I have to do is command the black ghost to hold the device while squeezing it and to go at it without holding back.
'Aizawa did tell us to go all out, after all. Other than the distance and range attack of the black ghost, I don't hide his strength. Sooo, plus ultra, I suppose?'
I easily won first place by nearly crushing the device before stopping, capping my score at 999 kg. Though I don't believe for a second that my score comes even close to someone like All Might.
Mezou Shouji, being the runner-up, got 540 kg.
The third Test, the standing long jump, ended in the same way as the first one, with me simply flying over the sand pit with ease. This time, though, I tied for first place with 2 other people, Aoyama and Bakugo, who also cleared the sand pit, although Bakugo is still glaring at me. It seems that my ignoring him is even more annoying to him.
The fourth Test, side-stepping. This one's had to be done without the black ghost and with my physical body, which, although trained, is still that of a normal human.
Resigning myself to the fact that my quirk won't be of any help, I rely on speed and endurance, with me ending in fourth place, which is still good considering that ahead of me were Ida and Asui, but also Sero, who used his tape creatively by pulling himself from side to side.
Not a bad result, all things considered.
The fifth test, softball throwing, started with Uraraka managing to get an infinity score on her turn by using her quirk to turn off the gravity of the ball and throwing the now weightless ball away.
I was wondering if I could have the black ghost carry the ball and fly away indefinitely to obtain results similar to Uraraka, not that I would attempt such an experiment.
Afterwards in the test, I watched as Midoriya walked to the front. He gripped the ball and threw it at... a measly 40 meters.
" But why? I thought I used my..."
" I erased it. Aizawa interrupted as he looked at Midoriya. His hair was flying while his eyes glowed red.
" Were you just going to break your bones every time you use your quirk? If that's the case, you are just deadweight; sit this test out. " Aizawa scoffed as he stopped using his quirk.
Fortunately for him, Aizawa let Midoriya throw the ball a second time, which he managed to launch up to 705.3 metres.
He placed third, with Bakugo coming in fourth by 0.1 meters. That fact alone was enough to send Bakugo into a fit of rage. His palm sparks violently as he lunges toward Midoriya.
"DIE, DEKU!"
' Here we go…' Before he can follow through, Aizawa intervenes in a split second, his scarf wrapping around Bakugo and locking him in place. His Quirk shuts down instantly.
"Violence isn't tolerated here," Aizawa says, managing to calm him down.
Even with these results, some people have excelled in certain events since their quirks were suitable for them, while others had to find creative solutions around their disadvantages. The one common denominator for all the previous events was that Midoriya received the lowest scores across all of them.
Even though most of the other students didn't have quirks that would help them with such a test.
That was because for people who knew their quirks weren't physically powerful, they had trained their physical fitness to be able to compete and excel in U.A. Yet, despite Midoriya's supposed determination and conviction to become a pro-hero, he did nothing to train himself other than the ten months he spent with All Might.
As a result, people like Denki Kaminari and Kyoka Jiro, whose Electrification quirk and Earphone Jack quirk, respectively, similarly did not help them at all with the Quirk Apprehension Test, still did better than Midoriya Izuku.
He was honestly an embarrassment with his result. There were also others in class whose quirks did not help them with the Quirk Apprehension Test. Toru Hagakure, for example, only had an invisibility quirk which did nothing to enhance her physical capabilities. Yet, her overall results, while poor, still exceeded Izuku Midoriya in many events.
Now it's my turn; under the insistence of Aizawa, I was made to throw the ball again despite placing second previously.
' Let's just throw it a little farther this time.' I thought to myself, but before I could have the black ghost fly away, I began to feel a strange sensation.
It's as if I was losing one of my senses; 'no, not losing, more like it being covered by something; still there but hidden.' I turned to look at Aizawa, and I immediately understood what was happening.
Before I could relax, I saw the black ghost coming towards me, realizing what it was about to do. I immediately jumped back, planting my foot on its torso to gain more momentum while using my arms to shield myself.
I didn't escape scot-free, though; to the surprise and confusion of everyone, I launched myself back by stepping on air before receiving a large bloody gash on my arms.
I heard the scream of my classmates, but I stayed calm and turned back once again to look at Aizawa, who, to his credit, was quick to understand the situation and turned off his quirk. Before hurrying over to my side and used his scarf as a makeshift bandage to stop the bleeding.
Once done, he took a device out of his pocket to contact someone. Minutes later, Lunch Rush arrived on the training field and began helping me towards the nurse's office.
Once I arrived in her office, Recovery Girl began inspecting not only my wound but also my entire body to make I wasn't hurt anywhere else, before using her quirk to help me heal.
"Oh dear, it's only the first day, and I already have work?"
"Haha, sorry mam. I will try and make sure I don't have to come next. Ah, right, I also think someone else is coming here later."
"What, how do you all manage to get injured, and what is Shota doing over there?"
'That's right, Granny, go and give him a beating for me. On a side note am keeping the scarf. I wonder if he'll teach me how to use it if I ask?'
"For God's sake, you all should take more care of yourselves. As for you, eat this and recover a little more; you can rejoin your class after lunch. Don't forget to pass by the principal's office before going home; he wants to talk to you," She said as she put a piece of candy in my hand before leaving.
'Hmm, Nezu want to see me. What could this be about?'
"Thank you."
Some time later, I was joined by Midoriya, who came to have his finger healed.
He tried to have a conversation with me about my quirk, but I ignored him. Seeing me ignoring him, he once again tried to initiate a conversation by talking about various heroes.
"Could you kindly shut the fuck up? If you're so starved for companionship, go and talk to Bakugo; I would very much appreciate it if you let me recuperate in peace."
After that, he was later dismissed by Recovery Girl, who sent him back to class.
