Ruel’s Tremorsense painted the path ahead:

The tunnel descended sharply—fifteen meters down at a steep angle before leveling into a horizontal passage.

No life signatures within his ten-meter range.

But the absence he’d felt earlier—that void that swallowed vibration—was closer now.

Below and ahead.

Ruel ignored the shrieks behind him and slide down the slope, keeping his claws dug into the stone to control his descent into the dark.

Ruel turned his back on the shrieking.

Let them struggle.

Let them scream.

The slope yawned before him—a steep descent into darkness so complete that even the bioluminescent fungus refused to grow here.

The green-blue glow ended at the lip of the decline like a boundary.

A warning.

He stepped over it without hesitation.

His foreclaws dug into stone as gravity pulled him downward.

The angle was severe—nearly forty-five degrees.

Loose gravel skittered beneath his hind legs, tumbling into the void below with faint tik-tik-tik sounds that took too long to stop echoing.

Skill Used: Controlled Descent (Steep Slope)

Ruel attempted to descend a steep 15-meter slope using claws for braking and control.

Result: Failure.

Ruel’s right foreclaw hit a patch of smooth mineral deposit—slick as glass.

His grip vanished.

He slid—fast—hind legs scrambling for purchase, tail whipping against the slope for friction.

Stone scraped against his belly-scales.

Sparks flew where chitin-hardened edges met rock.

The void-cracks along his body illuminated the tunnel in strobing violet flashes—

A ledge.

His left claw caught it.

Wrenched.

His shoulder screamed in protest but held.

His body swung—pendulum-like—and slammed against the lower wall with a crack that rattled his teeth.

Then stillness.

Ruel hung for a moment, panting.

His left shoulder throbbed—strained but functional.

Below him—only two meters now—the slope leveled out into a flat horizontal passage.

He released.

Dropped.

Landed on all fours with a grunt.

Silence.

Absolute.

Complete.

The kind of silence that had weight.

The shrieking of the trapped workers above was gone—swallowed by distance and stone.

His own breathing sounded obscenely loud.

His heartbeat was a drum in the dark.

Tremorsense reached outward—

And found nothing.

Not empty-nothing.

Not absence-of-life nothing.

Null-nothing.

A space ahead where vibration ceased to exist. The source of this chapter is g.com.

His tremorsense reached ten meters in every direction—behind him, beside him, above him—painting the world in ripples.

But directly ahead, at the edge of his range, reality simply…

stopped reporting.

A wall of informational silence.

The air here was different.

Colder than anything he’d felt in the cavern system.

Dry as bone dust.

And carrying a scent that triggered something deep in his Dragon Fragment—

Old.

Vast.

Sleeping.

Not the Queen.

Not Skitterers.

Something that predated the nest above by geological timescales.

The violet cracks along Ruel’s body dimmed unbidden.

Ruel growled softly, forcing his void-cracks to flare with intense light, daring whatever is in the darkness to reveal itself.

Ruel’s growl started low—a vibration in his chest that built into something deliberate.

Defiant.

He was done cowering.

The void-cracks along his body responded to will—to Resolve.

He pushed outward.

Not with muscle.

With intent.

The violet light blazed—searing through the absolute darkness like veins of lightning frozen in flesh.

His scales became a lantern of wrongness, casting the tunnel in sharp purple relief.

Shadows fled.

The passage was revealed: smooth-walled, unnaturally geometric.

Not carved by water or worm.

Cut.

Precise angles.

Flat floor.

The stone itself was different—darker, denser, veined with something that absorbed his light rather than reflecting it.

And at the edge of his illumination—ten meters ahead—

A threshold.

Two pillars of black stone framed an archway.

Symbols were carved into them—not any language Ruel recognized.

Not from his previous life.

Not from this world’s surface scripts he’d glimpsed in fragmented soul-memories.

These were older.

Angular.

Wrong in ways that made his eyes slide off them.

Beyond the archway: the null-zone.

The place where Tremorsense died.

Skill Used: Void Flare (Provocation/Illumination)

Ruel attempted to force void-cracks to maximum luminosity, illuminating the space and challenging whatever lies within.

Result: Success.

The light pulsed.

A wave of violet radiance erupted from Ruel’s body—not fire, not magic in any conventional sense.

Pure void-light.

It washed down the corridor, splashed against the archway pillars, and penetrated into the null-zone for one brief, blinding instant—

He saw.

A chamber.

Enormous—fifty meters across at minimum.

The ceiling lost in shadow even his flare couldn’t reach.

And in the center:

Bones.

A skeleton so large that Ruel’s mind refused to process it immediately.

It assembled itself in fragments: a skull the size of a house.

Horns that curved like crescent moons.

A ribcage that arched overhead like the vault of a cathedral.

Wings—folded even in death—that could have blotted out the sky.

A dragon.

Not like the Elder Dragon that had killed him.

That creature was a beast—powerful, ancient, but mortal.

This was something else entirely.

The bones were black.

Not dark-colored—black in a way that consumed light.

The same material as the archway pillars.

The same veining in the walls.

And wrapped around those bones—threaded through every rib, coiled around every vertebra, pooled in the skull’s empty eye sockets—

Darkness that breathed.

Not alive.

Not dead.

Waiting.

Then—

The null-zone pushed back.

Ruel’s void-flare guttered.

The violet light along his cracks flickered—dimmed—as something pressed against

Ruel lowered his posture, showing no fear, and project his soul-essence forward to touch the sleeping darkness.

Ruel lowered himself.

Not in submission.

In recognition.

One predator acknowledging another’s territory.

His belly touched cold stone.

His wings—small, vestigial things still developing—pressed flat against his flanks.

His chin hovered an inch above the ground.

But his eyes stayed open.

Violet.

Unblinking.

Ruel was not prey.

He was not supplicant.

He was something that should not exist—and so are he.

He reached inward.

Past muscle.

Past bone.

Past the Dragon Fragment and the void-scarred flesh.

Down to the thing that had survived two deaths.

The thing that had rejected the Cycle.

The thing that had demanded godkilling power from the architecture of reality itself.

His soul.

It pulsed—a frequency distinct from his body’s violet light.

Older.

Rawer.

The accumulated weight of a consciousness that refused to end.

He pushed it forward.
