The hokage’s speech was long, like those people who loved to talk but never knew when to stop.
He talked about how Konoha was made, the first and second hokages, how the first ninja war came about and he continued droning on and on needlessly.
Luckily, after about an hour, Mito gave him a look, clearly accustomed to his rambles.
“Ahem, now we’ll begin the assessment. I know all of you want to become ninja, but unfortunately being a ninja is a very dangerous job, and requires some fairly hard conditions to be fulfilled. But still, all the best, children, you are the leaves that will nurture Konoha in the future.” he ended.
‘Goddamn, even his ending was long.’ Thought Akira, speechless at how the Third love to repeat the will of fire.
The exam itself consisted of 3 different tests: a written test, physical test and chakra test.
After being escorted to an exam room, they were handed question papers.
The written part consisted questions about the general knowledge of Konoha and the will of fire, each tailored for 6 year olds.
It was also very strict, with examiners passing by students almost every minute.
Akira guessed they were looking for kids who could withstand psychological pressure as well as be loyal to the village.
It wasn’t on the level of Naruto’s written chunin exams, where the kids were forced to answer one last question to either give up or continue, but for six year olds whose only psychological pressure came from if parents ever found out if they did anything wrong, it was brutal.
A good few of civilian kids even started crying, as opposed to the clan kids who just looked mildly uncomfortable.
Akira exited the exam room with the relief of someone who was accustomed to the feeling one gets after an exam.
Hana also walked out calmly.
Kushina though, was sweating bullets.
“What’s with those questions? None of them were about being a ninja at all, and those examiners who were passing were soo distracting, always watching you like you owed them money.” Kushina complained.
“The exam doesn’t test ninja skills, it tests if you have what it takes to be one.” Akira explained.
“Mind and mentality, physique and toughness, and finally chakra. Those are what the teachers are testing for.” Hana continued.
“How did you guys know that!?” Kushina asked.
“Didn’t grandma Mito tell us all this when she was prepping us for today?” Akira asked, confused.
Kushina froze, then stuck out her tongue and rubbed the back of her head, sheepishly.
“Teehee?”
“See, told you she had selective memory.” Akira said to Hana, while she chuckled a bit.
Next was the physical tests.
This test included a sprint test, endurance test, jumping, climbing throwing and balance checks to see if the body was capable of the training ninjas required. Read this novel at NovelPing for the best experience.
During the sprint test, Akira was paired with Mikoto Uchiha.
With Kushina shouting his name on the side, and Hana encouraging him with, less noisy but still intense, support, Akira turned to look at Mikoto.
Seeing a more beautiful Sasuke, and imagining how it would look if she ever did Sasuke’s iconic laugh, almost made him burst out laughing.
“Hey, I’m Akira, what about you?” He asked.
“Mikoto Uchiha.” She replied.
‘Guess the isolation extended to inside the clan grounds as well’ Akira mused, seeing her unwilling to continue the conversation.
She wasn’t rude, like the other Uchihas, who downright ignored anyone who wasn’t one of them trying to strike up a conversation.
Even Minato, who was famous for his sunshine like personality, got shut down.
Mikoto probably just wasn’t accustomed actually having a conversation with anyone but her father.
From what Akira could sense, she had around the chakra for an above average chunin, which was way more than the other Uchihas her age.
Either she was part Senju, or she awakened the sharingan.
Each tomoe of the sharingan, in addition to its normal abilities, also boosted chakra.
Each tomoe representating genin, chunin and jonin chakra reserves, respectively.
Akira also experienced this phenomenon, but since he had an absurd amount of chakra, about the same as what Hiruzen had from what he sensed at only 6, the boost was almost negligible when he awakened his second tomoe.
It was said that, awakening the sharingan early was what contributed to Itachi’s terminal illness, but that actually was never proved.
What was, though, was using the mangekyo shortened his lifespan.
Shisui awakened the sharingan even younger than Itachi, but never got sick.
From what Akira could sense with his rudimentary medical skills, Mikoto was fine, further supporting the notion that the sharingan didn’t actually cause illness.
After the examiner signalled, Akira took off at a moderate pace.
Having a pure bloodline combined with his breathing technique and his recent training was easily enough to leave these kids in the dust.
Mikoto, for her credit, actually managed to keep up with Akira, though still coming short.
The only other noteworthy test was the throwing, where they were handed a wooden kunai to try and hit targets that were suspended in the air from a distance.
The targets were relatively big, and placed only about a dozen metres, but it proved a challenge for most kids, even some clan based children struggled to hit all. The source of this chapter is novelping . com.
Minato stood out the most among the civilians, especially in this test.
Though no one managed to beat Akira.
‘Call me the honored one.
I definitely ain’t playing pig to eat the tiger, given grandma Mito’s backing, that would be plain stupid.
Danzo could go get hard over his wood release experiments instead.’ Akira thought.
Though, with that said, he didn’t reveal all of his abilities.
Surprise attacks were one of the most effective, and Akira understood that if he showed how amazing he was, he would be worked like a slave.
For the endurance tests, the group of Uchiha kids came up to Akira and his group.
‘Oh?
I may get my chance to humble some young masters after all.’ Akira thought, getting a little excited.
“Hey white hair, we say you talking to that disgrace, you and your friends better stop or you’ll face the wrath of the Uchiha.” The leader of the pack said.
‘Wow, did he really just say that with a straight face?
I’m getting goosebumps from how cringey that was.’
“How about no. Brats like you have no business talking about the ‘wrath of Uchiha’ when you haven’t even awakened the sharingan.” Akira said.
“Yeah, you guys better go back to sucking on your mommy’s milk if you call that a threat.” Kushina said, backing him up with Hana in tow.
‘Am I rubbing on off on her too much?’ Akira wondered, hearing her trash talk.
The boys faced flushed indignantly.
“What’d you say!? Do you know who we are? The Uchiha clan is the strongest!” He yelled.
“Yeah, no. The Uchiha clan’s ‘glory’ has nothing to do with you idiots. Besides I’m pretty sure my grandma can wipe the floor with anyone in your clan.” Akira said, looking at them like they were idiots.
Remembering Mito, the kids faltered, but then, thinking their clan elders telling them not to shame the Uchiha, they mustered back up their courage.
“What’s going on over there?” an examiner asked, walking towards them.
The kids, after seeing this, decided to retreat.
“No one messes with the Uchiha and gets away with it. You’ll regret this!” The boy said, turning away with his pack.
Akira almost said,’I’m the hokage!’ out of reflex.
