A zombie apocalypse?
Sitting in the car, Lin Lu almost thought she had read it wrong.
According to the memories of Pei Yanzhi and Wan Yinyin, the apocalypse in their previous life had only been a rainstorm apocalypse.
As long as you were on high enough ground and had enough supplies, you could survive.
That was exactly why, in this life, they had been so desperate to seize her villa.
But now, the diary was telling her that history had changed course.
Anyone who got caught in the rain would turn into a zombie.
Anyone who died during the disaster would also become a zombie.
“So that means absolutely no getting caught in the rain.”
Lin Lu forced herself to calm down and analyze the situation.
“If the virus is the trigger, and those who fail to resist become zombies, then…”
“What about those who succeed?”
She recalled that in her dream, Song Zimo had mentioned supernatural abilities.
“In other words, this virus can turn people into zombies, but it may also be an opportunity for evolution.”
If someone survived the infection, perhaps they would awaken special powers and become an evolved human.
Lin Lu stared at the app, which had already returned to its normal appearance.
Since it could predict changes to the apocalypse, could it also provide clues about how to awaken abilities?
Theoretically, it was possible.
As long as she could awaken an ability, she would have the foundation she needed to survive in the apocalypse.
“Since it’s a zombie apocalypse, my plans need to change.”
The threat level of zombies was entirely different. Ordinary self-defense tools would be nowhere near enough.
Kitchen knives and fruit knives might work against one or two zombies, but against a horde, they would be useless.
She needed something more professional, like a crossbow—or even a gun.
Then… what about the villa?
Lin Lu turned off the engine and got out of the car.
The villa was still brightly lit.
Even in the middle of the night, large machinery could still be seen operating, and workers were constantly coming and going.
It had to be said that Pei Yanzhi’s money really was powerful.
Even at midnight, he could keep construction crews working around the clock.
As Lin Lu walked through the property, she noticed enormous changes.
A massive reinforced alloy gate had been installed at the entrance, and workers were raising the villa’s outer walls overnight.
In the courtyard, crews appeared to be rebuilding the drainage system.
Expensive security materials were being delivered in endless quantities.
Pei Yanzhi had truly treated this villa as his own home and spared no expense in fortifying it.
Unfortunately, while he had prepared for floods, he had no idea that zombies were the real threat ahead.
Just then, Lin Lu noticed several workers adjusting surveillance cameras.
An idea immediately came to her.
She walked over.
“Sir, please give me the administrator account for the surveillance system.”
The technician was busy and frowned when he turned around and saw a young woman.
“Who are you?”
“Mr. Pei ordered this system installed. How can I just hand the account over to anyone?”
“Mr. Pei?” Lin Lu raised an eyebrow and opened a photo of the property deed on her phone.
“Take a good look at who the owner is.”
“My name is Lin Lu. I own this house.”
The technician lowered his head to examine the document, and his face immediately changed.
Had they made a mistake?
They had all assumed the villa belonged to the wealthy Boss Pei. Who would have thought the actual owner was this young woman standing before them?
If this wasn’t handled properly, they could be accused of assisting in illegal occupation and unauthorized surveillance installation.
“Oh my, Miss Lin!”
“A misunderstanding! It’s all a misunderstanding!”
The technician didn’t dare argue any further and immediately handed over the super administrator account and password.
“Thanks.”
Lin Lu successfully logged into the system and left.
When she entered the villa, the first floor was still undergoing reinforcement work and looked somewhat messy.
She headed directly to the second and third floors.
The previously empty guest rooms and storage rooms were now packed to the ceiling.
In addition to the rice, flour, grain, and cooking oil she had ordered earlier, there were also numerous large black crates covered in English labels.
Lin Lu quietly opened one of them to take a look.
Good heavens!
High-powered silent generators, industrial-grade water purification systems, and entire cases of premium antibiotics and emergency medical kits…
These were all items that were difficult to obtain even with money.
“Pei Yanzhi, Pei Yanzhi… you’re such a thoughtful fool who’s doing all the work for me.”
Lin Lu was extremely satisfied.
Pei Yanzhi had considered everything carefully and had even filled in the gaps she had overlooked.
Standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window on the third floor, she looked down at the brightly illuminated city below the mountain.
The late-night mountain breeze drifted in through the open window, carrying a hint of coolness.
Originally, she had been worried.
Pei Yanzhi had turned the villa into a fortress. If she wanted to take it back by force, it would probably require considerable effort.
But now, her thinking had completely changed.
If this was going to be a zombie apocalypse, then whoever wanted to stay here could stay.
The villa was far from the city and situated on high ground, making it an excellent place to avoid floods.
For a zombie apocalypse, survival wouldn’t depend on a safe house—it would depend on one’s own strength and supernatural abilities.
But where did those abilities come from?
Most likely, they would be obtained by hunting zombies and acquiring some form of energy from within them—perhaps something like crystal cores.
Then, if she stayed hidden in these remote mountains, where would she find any zombies?
This place was safe, but that also meant losing the opportunity to grow stronger quickly.
The ideal safe house should be located on the outskirts of a city.
That way, she could enter the city at any time to hunt zombies and gather resources, then retreat to a secure area whenever she needed to rest and recover.
Pei Yanzhi and Song Zimo both believed they held an unbeatable advantage because of their memories from a previous life.
But what they didn’t know was that the script had already changed.
A smile curled across Lin Lu’s lips.
Let Pei Yanzhi and his people stay trapped in this cage and slowly rot.
She needed to find a new base on the edge of the city as soon as possible. There were only five days left, and time was running out.
As for the supplies inside this villa…
On the last day, she would conduct a moving-day-style sweep and clean the place out completely.
Not a single hair would be left for them.
Just as she was thinking about it, an arrogant female voice suddenly rang out from downstairs.
“What are you all standing around for?”
“Throw all this junk away and clear out the room!”
“I’m turning this place into my walk-in closet!”
Lin Lu’s expression changed instantly, and she immediately turned and headed downstairs.
At a glance, she saw Wan Yinyin standing at the doorway, bossily directing two workers.
“What a pile of worthless junk. Yet someone treats it like treasure.”
“Throw it out! Hurry up and throw it all out!”
A surge of anger instantly rose in Lin Lu’s chest.
That was her grandmother’s room!
It was the only place left in this world that still carried traces of her grandmother’s presence.
And this idiot, Wan Yinyin, dared touch her grandmother’s belongings?
“Everyone, stop right now!”
The two workers were so startled that they nearly dropped what they were carrying.
They exchanged bewildered glances and looked at the beautiful young woman radiating murderous anger, then instinctively turned to Wan Yinyin.
Wan Yinyin was equally stunned. She hadn’t expected Lin Lu to suddenly appear here.
“…Why are you here?”
Lin Lu was so angry she almost laughed.
“This is my home. If I’m not here, where exactly should I be?”
She turned to the workers.
“Put everything down. Return every item exactly where you found it.”
“Otherwise, I’ll call the police right now and report you for trespassing and burglary!”
The moment the workers heard the word “police,” they panicked.
They were only here to earn a paycheck and wanted no part in legal trouble. They immediately looked toward Wan Yinyin.
“Miss Wan, this…”
During this period, relying on her relationship with Pei Yanzhi, Wan Yinyin had been acting as though she were the mistress of the villa, ordering the workers around however she pleased.
Now, being reprimanded so harshly by Lin Lu in front of everyone, her face burned with embarrassment.
Humiliated and furious, she raised her chin and shouted:
“Lin Lu, what do you mean by this? What trespassing?”
“We’re family!”
“I just wanted to tidy up the room. Do you really need to make such a huge fuss?”
Lin Lu couldn’t be bothered arguing with her.
She simply pulled out her phone.
“Fine. Then let’s let the police decide.”
“Let’s see who gave you the nerve to throw away the homeowner’s belongings in someone else’s house!”
