“Ah! It hurts…”

The pain of being torn apart and devoured by zombies had yet to fade when Meng Shiwan jolted upright.

A soft cushion pressed up from beneath her, and bright sunlight streamed in through the window.Full novel: In the Apocalypse, While Others Slash Zombies, I Feast on Gourmet Food in My RV — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“This is… my RV? Didn’t that scumbag and that bitch steal it on the very first day of the outbreak?”

She quickly grabbed her phone from the bedside table. The screen read 9:00 a.m., May 20.

There was still…

Three hours until the zombie outbreak.

“I’ve been reborn!”

Meng Shiwan quickly accepted the reality of it. Suppressing her excitement, she flipped off the bed.

The bed was a lift-up design. Once she raised it with the remote, a U-shaped lounge area was revealed underneath, with a small height-adjustable dining table in the center.

Meng Shiwan walked to the table and lightly pressed the display screen mounted on the wall. The screen popped out and slid to the left, revealing a square opening behind it.

The opening led straight into the driver’s cabin, something she had deliberately built in when designing the RV.

It made moving between the living area and the cabin easy, sparing her from having to climb out and walk around from the outside every time.

The driver’s cabin was spacious. Meng Shiwan skillfully started the engine and got the vehicle running. Right now, she had to go home first and take Taxue away, the dairy-cow-patterned cat she’d raised for two years.

A month after the outbreak in her previous life, a rescue team had found her and brought her to a survivor base.

She’d barely settled in when a group of men robbed her.

During the struggle, Taxue darted out of the bag where it had been hiding and pounced on the robbers, clawing wildly to save her.

But how could a small cat stand against a group of grown men? Taxue was beaten to death right before her eyes.

Now that she’d been given a second chance, she would survive, and so would Taxue.

The moment she thought of the pair of scumbags at home who had caused all this tragedy, the anger inside her surged uncontrollably.

This RV had been designed with great care and effort by Meng Shiwan herself.

Built on a light-truck chassis, it was larger than an ordinary RV.

Inside, it held every kind of household appliance imaginable, practically a mobile home.

Yet on this very day in her previous life, when the outbreak began, her half-sister and her own fiancé had stolen the RV and abandoned her to fend for herself.

Afterward, Meng Shiwan struggled through the apocalypse for three bitter years, barely surviving.

Meanwhile, the two of them drove around in her RV, never wanting for food or drink, dodging every disaster, living quite comfortably.

Meng Shiwan parked the RV in the villa’s garden, jumped down from the cabin, and headed straight for the house.

The moment she stepped into the living room, she saw a harmonious family of four chatting and laughing together.

When they noticed her, the lively mood instantly stiffened. Four pairs of eyes turned toward her in unison, each wearing a complicated expression.

“Big Sister,” Meng Qingyue said, standing and flashing her a sweet smile. “Gu Jinchen and I just got our marriage certificate. Come have some wedding candy with us.”

At those words, Meng Shiwan narrowed her eyes and silently ground her teeth.

Her mother had died of illness when she was ten.

Six months later, her father brought home a woman and a daughter only a year younger than her, her half-sister by the same father.

The very green-tea schemer [1] “green tea”, a woman who acts sweet and innocent while scheming underneath, internet slang jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_2639847_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_2639847_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top center', relative: true, offset: [-7, 0], }); standing before her now.

Anyone in their social circle knew that Gu Jinchen was Meng Shiwan’s fiancé, the man she’d loved all through her youth.

No one knew when Meng Qingyue and Gu Jinchen had gotten involved, yet here she was, brazenly smiling and offering wedding candy.

If that wasn’t a green-tea schemer, what was?

Meng Shiwan wasn’t about to indulge her. She said lightly, “What kind of tea did you brew today? It smells so fragrant.”

That single remark deepened the shock on the four faces in the room.

They’d all assumed that once she learned of the marriage, Meng Shiwan would throw a huge fit and turn the house upside down.

Never in their wildest dreams had they expected her to merely ask, “What kind of tea did you brew today?”

There wasn’t even a trace of anger on her face.

This was nothing like the Meng Shiwan they knew.

Having failed to provoke her, Meng Qingyue kept smiling. “Longjing tea. My husband brewed it himself.”

In her previous life, when Meng Shiwan learned the two had registered their marriage, she really had caused a massive scene, smashing everything within reach.

Then, when the outbreak began at noon, the family of four drove off in her RV.

Leaving Meng Shiwan behind at the villa to fend for herself.

Meng Shiwan forced a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “So it’s Longjing. Here I thought a green-tea spirit had come to life and perfumed the air.”

From start to finish, she didn’t spare Gu Jinchen a single glance.

A scumbag like him wasn’t worth as much as a toad in a filthy ditch.

They were all sharp people, how could they miss that Meng Shiwan was taking a jab at Meng Qingyue?

Meng Qingyue put on a wronged look. “In love, the one who isn’t loved is the third wheel. Gu Jinchen and I love each other. Big Sister, you won’t blame us, will you?”

Meng Hanyuan snorted coldly. “Is that any way to speak to your sister? Apologize to her.”

Gu Jinchen looked guilty. “Shiwan, hear me out.”

Meanwhile, Yu Wan stood by with a smug expression, thoroughly enjoying the show.

Meng Shiwan took a deep breath.

A house full of trash.

Drawing the breath deep into her belly, she shouted upstairs, “Taxue!”

“Meow—”

A chubby black-and-white cow cat came bounding down the stairs with heavy thumps. Reaching Meng Shiwan, it flopped onto the floor at once and begged to be doted on.

Meng Shiwan bent down, scooped Taxue up, turned, and headed outside.

Seeing her indifference, Meng Hanyuan’s temper flared. “Go, then! You’re never home anyway. Once you leave, don’t come back!”

Meng Shiwan opened the RV door, set Taxue inside, and closed it.

Leave?

She was definitely leaving.

But first…

She turned and looked at the two who had followed her out. One wore a guilty look and seemed eager to explain himself, the other wore a green-tea smile, clearly trying to provoke her further.

Meng Shiwan raised an eyebrow. “You two, come here. I’ll give you a chance to beg my forgiveness.”

The pair looked at Meng Shiwan leaning against the pink RV, utterly puzzled.

Was this really the Meng Shiwan they knew?

Since when had she become so easygoing?

She could even forgive the man she loved most for secretly marrying her own sister?

Puzzled as they were, the two still walked over.

Gu Jinchen said sincerely, “Shiwan, I never meant to hurt you—”

“To hell with you!”

Meng Shiwan’s fist slammed straight into Gu Jinchen’s eye socket, sending him crashing to the ground.

Ever since her mother died and Yu Wan entered the family, she hadn’t had a single good day.

In college she’d become obsessed with fitness. She might look slim, but every inch of her was packed with powerful, explosive muscle.

Combined with the combat skills honed through three years of fighting to survive in the apocalypse, that punch was not something an ordinary person could withstand.

Dizzy and seeing stars, Gu Jinchen lay on the ground, unable to get up for a long while. A dark bruise spread around his eye at once.

Meng Qingyue screamed, “Meng Shiwan, what are you doing? Why are you hitting people?!”

Meng Shiwan rolled up her sleeves. “Don’t panic. You’re getting your share too.”

As she spoke, her fists and feet came flying at both of them.

Thinking of everything from her previous life, the anger inside her blazed out of control.

The RV was clearly hers. There was clearly room for one more person.

Yet this family had abandoned her at the villa, utterly indifferent to whether she lived or died.

When they met again at the survivor base, Meng Shiwan had grown so thin she was almost unrecognizable.

Gu Jinchen looked down on her from on high, Meng Qingyue mocked and ridiculed her, and even her own father ignored her outright.

Not one of them spared her a single bite of food, leaving her to struggle through the apocalypse alone until she could endure no more and died in a horde of zombies.

The more Meng Shiwan thought about it, the harder she hit.

She beat the two of them until they sprawled on the ground, howling in pain.

By the time Meng Hanyuan and Yu Wan rushed out with the household staff, Meng Shiwan had already stopped, climbed into the RV, and driven off.

Leaving behind only the family’s furious shouting and cursing.

Her face swollen and bruised, Meng Qingyue could barely speak clearly. “She’s gone crazy. Meng Shiwan has definitely gone crazy. If I’m disfigured, I won’t let her get away with this!”

Meng Hanyuan hurried to comfort her. “I’ll call the family doctor over right now. From now on, I have no daughter like her. I’ll never let her set foot in this house again.”

Meng Qingyue looked thoroughly aggrieved on the outside, but inwardly she was delighted.

From now on, everything in the Meng family would be hers.

The family fortune would be hers.

The man would be hers too.

At last she’d gotten rid of that annoying thorn in her side, Meng Shiwan.
