The first-floor survivors came looking for Zhang Qiang, and seeing him wriggling on the floor, they recoiled in fright.
“You’re injured? You’ve got zombie blood on you, you’re not going to turn, are you?”
“Maybe I should finish you off now, so you don’t turn into a zombie, that’d be pretty miserable.”
Zhang Qiang held onto his last breath and roared, “I’m not injured! I’m just too scared to move!”
As he said it, he suddenly became aware of the helmet on his head.
He hadn’t understood before why she’d fitted him with a helmet, now it clicked all at once.
That brutal woman had never meant to take his life from the start.
His wounds were all on his head, and the helmet could block infection from zombie blood, keeping him from turning too.
For some reason, in that instant Zhang Qiang actually felt a little moved.
That killer who didn’t blink turned out not to be so cold-blooded after all, she even had this attentive side to her.
Someone dragged over a fire hose, no idea who, and blasted Zhang Qiang down with a spray of water.
The icy water pulled a bit of Zhang Qiang’s sanity back.
He thought he might be a pervert, that brutal woman had tortured him into this state, and just because she’d put a helmet on him, he was actually moved.
Wasn’t the helmet just so he could serve longer as a zombie carrot?
Otherwise, if he turned into a zombie in a while, wouldn’t she have had to grab another person to tie up?
Lin Hao and his three companions stayed in the supermarket’s bedding section, keeping a constant eye on everything inside.
He arranged in a low voice, “Around two or three in the morning, Zhao Yu pulls the main breaker, Yuning collects the supplies, fast, hit the food section first. About ten minutes later, restore the power, come back here, and act like we know nothing.”
Once they had the supplies, leaving immediately would be the safest move.
But if they left here, zombies were everywhere outside. They had little fighting strength and nowhere better to go.
Running into zombies out there meant death, better to hide here where it was safe.
As long as they were discreet, even if the supplies vanished, no one would know who took them.
On the other side, the crowd rinsed Zhang Qiang clean and forced him to strip off his clothes.
After confirming he had no open wounds, they hauled over several bottles of strong baijiu and doused him from head to toe, not sparing even the wounds on his head.
Zhang Qiang’s howls of pain echoed on and on through the supermarket.
Those who’d fallen asleep were jolted fully awake again.
Meng Shiwan went to the seafood section, rinsed the blood off herself, and left the supermarket.
Everyone assumed she’d gone back to sleep, then watched her return dragging a hand cart.
There was a wooden plank on the cart too.
This scene the first-floor survivors knew well: she was here to haul supplies again.
What she carried off, trip after trip, wasn’t much to a supermarket this vast.
But to her RV, it really was quite a lot.
Batch after batch stuffed in, how could it still hold more?
“Say what you like, it’s built on a light truck. It holding a lot does make sense.”
“It’s probably nearly full. She won’t be able to take much more.”
Meng Shiwan headed straight for the frozen section, emptied all the ice cream out of the freezers, then went to the fruit and vegetable section.
A lot of the produce had been taken and eaten by people, the counters were a mess.
She fell silent a moment, then dragged the cart to the warehouse.
The battered first-floor survivors guarding the warehouse door saw her and hastily turned away, tucking themselves into corners playing quail. [1] cowering, hunched and silent, like a quail jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_2841316_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_2841316_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top center', relative: true, offset: [-7, 0], });
Even Zhang Qiang, who’d just been carried back, buried his head against the floor, wishing he could burrow beneath it.
As long as they didn’t meet this brutal woman’s eyes, she couldn’t bully them.
Meng Shiwan knit her brows. “What’s this? Pretending you can’t see me?”
A man’s voice piped up feebly, “You told us not to appear in front of you again.”
Meng Shiwan: …
“Open the door!”
That man, without a moment’s delay, hurriedly fished out the keys and opened the multiple-locked warehouse door.
Terrified that a moment’s hesitation would leave him tied to the shelf tomorrow.
Terrified, too, that if he didn’t open it, this brutal woman would burn the warehouse down.
That would be a loss they couldn’t afford.
The survivors who’d come down from the second floor watched from a distance, a little baffled.
“These first-floor people are real cowards, huh? One woman scares them stiff like quails. How about we just rob their warehouse?”
“No rush. Observe a bit more. When the supermarket’s stock runs low and they still won’t share the warehouse food with us, then we move.”
“A pack of cowards scared of one woman, they probably don’t have much real skill either.”
The way they looked at the first-floor survivors now carried an added scorn.
Meng Shiwan wheeled the cart in, and the first-floor survivors left the warehouse door ajar, warily eyeing the second-floor survivors in the distance.
The warehouse was a vital stronghold, no one else could be allowed to eye it.
Whoever eyed it, they’d fight to the death.
Well… except that brutal woman inside. Couldn’t beat her.
Meng Shiwan walked in and found the warehouse enormous, stocked with all sorts of things.
Household goods, drinks, snacks, grain, dried goods, everything.
Further in was a cold-storage room, stocked with all kinds of vegetables, fruit, and meat.
Meng Shiwan was like a monkey turned loose in an orchard, haul, haul, haul.
More of what she liked to eat, less of what she didn’t.
One cubic meter of space could hold nearly two thousand jin of fruit and vegetables.
She could store quite a lot.
Durian, grapes, sweet melon, lychee, watermelon, pineapple, apples, oranges, all to be stockpiled.
A little of every kind of vegetable too, for variety.
She filled a whole cart and wheeled it out of the warehouse.
Zhang Qiang smiled ingratiatingly. “Need any help? Want someone to carry it over for you?”
Meng Shiwan said coldly, “No need. Don’t lock the door, I’ll be back for another trip.”
Zhang Qiang nodded quickly. “Okay, okay.”
Meng Shiwan pulled the cart back to the RV, opened the door, got in, and took out the three crystal cores she’d gotten today.
She used all of them to expand the refrigerator’s space.
The fridge now had seven cubic meters of space, cooked food, desserts, meat, and seafood, one cubic meter each.
The remaining three, just expanded, were still empty.
She carried the goods into the RV box by box, then stuffed them into the fridge pile by pile, into the expanded space.
The process was rather tiring.
Yet she never wearied of it.
Compared with her previous life, having the RV System, she was thoroughly content.
Once this cartload was unloaded, she went to the warehouse for another.
As she left, Zhang Qiang said cautiously, “We’re afraid zombies will get in at night, so we’ll block the passage but leave you a small door. If you want to haul more tomorrow, we’ll move the stuff blocking the passage aside.”
He had to explain it clearly, or tomorrow this lady would see it blocked again and set another fire.
Who could possibly withstand that?
Meng Shiwan gave a cold “Mm” of agreement.
That let Zhang Qiang breathe a deep sigh of relief.
Meng Shiwan went on carrying things onto the RV, tucking them bit by bit into the fridge’s space.
Fruit filled about one cubic meter, vegetables one cubic meter, ice cream just under half a cubic meter, there was still some space left.
Looking at the leftover space with nothing stocked in it, she reckoned she’d lie awake all night fretting over it.
So she simply pulled the cart toward the little food street nearby.
