Who could have guessed that this morning, when people discovered the supermarket’s supplies gone and were thrown into helpless panic—
Lin Hao had spoken up. “Could that woman have hauled them off? She killed a lot of zombies, she’s pretty formidable. She’d surely have some way to move all the supplies overnight.”
At his words, the second-floor survivors immediately clamored to go settle accounts with Meng Shiwan.
The first-floor survivors sat at the warehouse door, playing quail again, not saying a peep.
Lin Hao was baffled and pressed them, “Don’t you want to find the supplies?”
To his surprise, the whole group shook their heads like rattle-drums.
Zhang Qiang spoke up. “Supplies or no supplies aside, we just don’t want to die.”
Which of the first-floor survivors didn’t know that the one in the RV was a killer who didn’t blink? Only someone tired of living would go provoke her.
Lin Hao had even called them cowards.
Now these cowards weren’t thinking of finding the supplies at all, yet the moment that woman asked, they told her everything.
Meng Shiwan sized up Lin Hao and his companions. “On what grounds do you say I stole the supplies? Do you have proof?”
She studied everyone’s expressions. All the others wore faces of rage and dread.
Only those four showed anger on the surface, while their eyes stayed perfectly calm.
The spatial ability user was definitely among the four of them.
Lin Hao felt very uneasy under Meng Shiwan’s stare, but now of all times, he absolutely couldn’t show a crack.
If people learned it was them who’d stolen the supplies, it would not end well.
So he could only insist to the death that this woman was the thief.
Lin Hao said firmly, “It was you. I got up in the night and saw you go back into the supermarket to move supplies.”
Meng Shiwan nearly laughed in fury.
What a clumsy excuse.
She’d truly given them a chance to live, and they were useless. So they couldn’t blame her for being merciless.
Hearing this, the first-floor survivors’ eyes nearly bulged out of their heads in fright, inwardly they’d already begun mourning for this young fellow.
Of all the people to provoke, why her?
If this lady really wanted the supermarket’s supplies, why would she need to steal them?
She could haul them out in broad daylight, who could stop her?
Besides, how could one person empty the whole supermarket in a single night, without making a sound?
Sure enough, the next instant they saw Meng Shiwan’s figure move, closing on the four with blinding speed.
Before they could even react, the trowel in Meng Shiwan’s hand had already plunged into Su Yuning’s throat.
Blood sprayed onto Lin Hao’s face, only at the warm, wet touch did his expression change. “What are you doing?! Yuning!!!”
He lunged toward Su Yuning in horror.
Meng Shiwan wrenched the trowel free and swiftly stepped aside.
Blood flew again, staining a wide swath of the floor red.
Su Yuning clamped both hands over her spurting throat, mouth opening and closing, gushing great mouthfuls of blood, unable to believe she was dying.
Wasn’t she the chosen one?
The Heaven-chosen girl who’d awakened a spatial ability at the apocalypse’s dawn, how could she die this easily?
Lin Hao held her and screamed, “Yuning, Yuning, don’t leave me! You won’t die, you won’t…”
Only then did the crowd react, all falling back.
“Murder.”
“Is she a demon? She just kills without a word of warning. Terrifying.”
Seeing this, the first-floor survivors’ hearts ached, even though they’d braced for it.
A brute. So savage.
They’d all said not to provoke her, yet these few had insisted on courting death, and no one could have stopped them.
This truly was killing at the slightest disagreement, if she could kill you, she wouldn’t waste a single word.
Under the crowd’s stunned eyes, Su Yuning breathed her last, unwilling to the end.
In that instant, the vanished supplies burst forth, heaping up like a small mountain and burying the crowd.
Meng Shiwan had been on guard and quickly retreated, so she wasn’t buried.
When a spatial ability user dies, the supplies inside their space burst out.
A moment ago, the four of them had, consciously or not, kept that woman shielded behind them.
Sneaking about, riddled with tells, and still daring to court death in front of her.
They’d even wanted her to take the fall, utterly heedless of life and death.
Meng Shiwan picked up a rabbit-print fuzzy pajama set from the pile before her, hefted her trowel, and walked over to Zhang Qiang.
The way Zhang Qiang looked at Meng Shiwan now held even more dread.
He felt that having provoked her earlier and still not being dead was already exceptional consideration on her part.
He said ingratiatingly, “Sis, any orders?”
Meng Shiwan said coldly, “One durian, a dozen eggs, two heads of lettuce, a bag of whole-slice bread, a bottle of mango juice.”
Zhang Qiang quickly waved his hand. “What are you all standing around for? Go get Sis her things!”
He glanced back at the blood dripping from the trowel in Meng Shiwan’s hand and, for lack of anything to say, said, “Sis, this trowel of yours is really sharp, shaves a head clean off every time. Behind you, behind—”
Zhang Qiang suddenly cried out. There was Lin Hao, hefting a fire extinguisher, eyes bloodshot, swinging it at Meng Shiwan’s head. “Go die!”
Meng Shiwan turned, dodged the extinguisher, raised her trowel, and slit his throat.
Clean and decisive, the motion utterly practiced.
Zhang Qiang watched the young man drop, stunned for a long moment, then praised in a daze, “Sis, your trowel really is sharp.”
The man who’d gone into the warehouse for her things came out, saw another body beside Meng Shiwan, and trembling, held out a big bag before her. “Sis—Sis, is this enough?”
Meng Shiwan took her things and headed back to the RV.
Leaving behind a crowd who couldn’t make heads or tails of the situation.
“Brother Qiang, the supermarket’s supplies suddenly vanished last night and just as suddenly reappeared. What’s going on?”
“You’re asking me? Who am I supposed to ask? How would I know?”
“Bizarre. A whole supermarket’s worth of supplies, flickering in and out like that?”
The second-floor survivors crawled out of the supply heap, saw another body on the floor, and one by one turned deathly pale.
“Mur, murder? How can you just kill someone?”
“Looked like such a nice girl, and she’s a killer. People in the apocalypse are scarier than zombies.”
Zhang Qiang, standing not far off, reminded them, “I told you long ago not to provoke her. You wouldn’t listen. Well, now you’ve all learned your lesson, haven’t you?”
They’d always believed that no matter how big a conflict between people got, it was just a conflict.
They’d never seen anyone kill at the slightest disagreement.
Before the apocalypse, such a person would absolutely have been a brute, a murderer, a demon feared by all.
Even in the apocalypse, that was still how they saw her.
It was only that now, no one was left to bring such a demon to justice.
Meng Shiwan returned to the RV, set her things down, peeled off the blood-stained fuzzy pajamas and threw them out the window, and changed into the rabbit-print set she’d picked up.
After washing the blood off her trowel, she went back to sleep.
No one should dare disturb her rest now.
She really couldn’t tell whether her luck was good or bad.
Bad luck, running into an ability user.
Good luck, that it was an early-stage spatial ability user, and not a very clever one at that.
No fighting strength, yet still daring to make trouble.
Had it been any other ability user with attack power, she’d have had to flee first and worry about the rest later.
