A holographic cutaway view of the RV’s interior appeared before her.
It showed multiple areas that could be expanded.
The wardrobe, the cabinets, the fridge, the purified-water tank, the fresh-water tank, the gray-water tank, the black-water tank, the diesel tank, the gasoline tank…
The RV itself ran on diesel.
But because it held so many electrical appliances, she’d worried the power supply might not be enough, so she’d installed a generator underneath.
The generator ran on gasoline, which was why the RV also had a separate gasoline tank just for it.
“My goodness…”
Meng Shiwan stared in astonishment.
Every storage compartment inside the RV could be expanded.
Wouldn’t that mean she could stockpile an enormous amount of supplies?
It would practically become a mobile supply depot.
But when she considered the expansion requirements, her excitement cooled a little.
One crystal core was needed to expand storage by just one cubic meter.
Crystal cores were extremely hard to obtain.
In the early days of the apocalypse, even after killing a hundred zombies, there was no guarantee a single core would drop.
Not until about a year later did cores become somewhat more common. By then, killing fifty or sixty zombies would usually yield one.
How many cores, and how many zombies, would she have to collect and kill before her RV became the mobile depot she envisioned?
Then again, that every storage space could be expanded at all was already incredibly impressive.
Every extra cubic meter of storage meant another cubic meter of supplies.
For her, that meant one more layer of security.
“Amazing… Did I really design an RV this incredible?”
Meng Shiwan’s eyes sparkled with excitement as she marveled at it.
As more people fled the mall, the zombies gathering in the plaza kept growing in number.
Drawn by the smell of blood, they wandered over and slammed against the RV, trying to drag Meng Shiwan out and devour her.
But this time she no longer heard any banging. Once the window was closed, the interior was completely silent, without a sound.
Meng Shiwan grew excited.
“So immunity to all damage is this powerful? It even blocks sound?”
The zombies’ attacks caused not the slightest vibration in the RV.
In other words, her RV was indestructible, damage-immune, and soundproof, an absolutely perfect fortress.
At that thought, her mood instantly lifted. Humming a tune, she went into the bathroom to rinse the blood off her hands and the trowel.
Taxue had no idea what was going on with its owner, one moment shocked, the next happy.
It sat on the coffee table, tilting its head and staring at her with wide, confused eyes.
Coming out of the bathroom, Meng Shiwan put the trowel back in place and wiped her wet hands on Taxue’s head.
“Get to work. Once we finish tidying up and eat our fill, we’ll go out and kill zombies.”
She’d never felt that killing zombies could be such a joyful thing.
Taxue shook its head in distaste, a little annoyed, making soft whimpering noises, adorably.
Meng Shiwan turned on the TV, playing a mindless xianxia romance drama, and sat right down in the aisle to sort the medicine.
She dumped all the medications out, stripped off the bulky packaging, and kept only the smallest units. She sorted them by type and placed them in the storage cabinet above the fridge, filling it perfectly.
The ten bags of cat food, along with cat snacks and deworming medicine, were stuffed under the sofa.
She bagged the trash and left it by the bathroom door for now, to throw out later after eating.
Then she took a small pot from the cabinet wall, grabbed five whiteleg shrimp from the freezer, and set them on the induction cooker to boil.
When Taxue saw the food, it jumped onto the shoe cabinet, staring with round eyes full of longing.
Meng Shiwan smiled. “Wait a moment. I’ll cook yours first.”
She opened each takeout container she’d brought back and set them on the coffee table one by one. The rich aroma instantly filled the space.
Meng Shiwan’s mouth watered uncontrollably.
How long it had been since she’d last had proper food.
She grabbed a fried drumstick and took a huge bite, tearing off nearly half in one go. The crispy, savory flavor was so good it felt like her soul was floating skyward, she almost swallowed her tongue.
With another sip of beer, she felt she could happily pass out from satisfaction.
“Meow~ shrimp… my shrimp.”
Unable to get any food, Taxue protested.
Meng Shiwan stuffed the remaining half of the drumstick into her mouth in one bite, walked to the counter, turned off the cooker, and poured off the hot water.
Once it had cooled a little, she peeled the shrimp, tore them into small pieces, and set them before Taxue.
“Eat.”
Taxue devoured them at once, purring contentedly.
Meng Shiwan sat on the sofa and wolfed down the food before her.
She tore off half a skewer of grilled lamb in one bite, sipped beer, bit into a fried chicken cutlet, and chased it with a gulp of passion-fruit drink.
Crispy fried food, spice, sweetness, and fizz, every flavor exploded on her palate, as if her soul were ascending.
It had been far, far too long since she’d tasted real food, she’d almost forgotten what these flavors were like.
She ate fast but neatly. Doing a mukbang, she’d easily win countless fans.
Outside the RV, a group of men and women were frantically fleeing the pursuing zombies.
They wore matching uniforms, coworkers from the same company, it seemed.
One of them looked through the RV window and nearly had their eyes pop out.
This was the apocalypse, zombies everywhere, and yet someone was calmly sitting in an RV, watching TV, drinking beer, and devouring skewers?
Did this person even realize zombies were eating people outside?
Just then, one of them had a sudden idea and shouted, “A car! Does anyone have a car parked nearby? Get inside and hide!”
“I do.”
The group ran for the roadside parking lot.
Before they even reached it, they saw a suited zombie on the nearby road punch through a car window. It grabbed the person inside by the hair and bit down on the driver’s head.
They could even clearly hear the grind of teeth against bone.
The group was shaken to the core, screaming in terror until their voices broke.
“Help! Even cars aren’t safe, what are we supposed to do?”
“Hiding in cars doesn’t work! We need buildings, zombies can’t get into those!”
They turned and ran back toward the mall. Passing the RV, they glimpsed the girl inside calmly eating crayfish.
Their minds nearly cracked.
Were they even in the same world as her?
After finishing her meal, Meng Shiwan noticed no zombies seemed to be gathering around her RV anymore.
Zombies could smell human scent and sense movement to locate and attack targets.
“Could the RV block scent too?”
She pulled open the window beside the sofa. Immediately, nearby wandering zombies snapped their heads toward her and lunged with stiff, jerky movements.
She quickly closed it again. The zombies, as if they’d lost their target, hesitated in confusion for a moment, then went back to searching for other prey.
Meng Shiwan understood.
As long as the doors and windows were closed, her scent was completely masked.
Once opened, she’d be detected again.
But since zombies couldn’t damage the RV, she was in no danger.
The only issue was that if too many gathered, they could block the road and hinder the RV’s movement.
Meng Shiwan turned off the display, moved to the driver’s seat, started the vehicle, and slowly drove forward, stopping beside a trash bin.
