When the three of them entered, Shang Chenyan had just come downstairs.

He was wearing black casual pants and a soft off-white sweater. His sleeves were slightly rolled up, revealing a clean, well-defined forearm.

When his eyes met Luisa’s, he subconsciously adjusted his collar.Full novel: In the fifth year of his deceased wife his wife came back! — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

What was that look supposed to mean? Was she satisfied with his outfit today?

Early that morning, Shang Chenyan had stood in front of his wardrobe, staring at rows of identical suits in distress.

Dressing too formally at home—would she think he was too old for her?

After all, even after five years, she hadn’t changed at all. She was still bright, youthful, and full of life.

He even dug out his old university clothes from the bottom of a storage box and finally chose this sweater.

Back then, when she gave him a strawberry cake, he had been wearing this exact sweater.

Shang Chenyan walked down and cleared his throat. “You’re here.”

Luisa placed her bag on the sofa. Just as she reached out, Shang Chenyan’s gaze immediately noticed her palm—slightly red and abnormal.

Looking closer, her coat had stains at the back, like melted snow mixed with mud.

“What happened?” he frowned, walking over to hold her hand. “Did you fall?”

The warm touch on her wrist made Luisa freeze for a moment. She quickly pulled her hand back.

“It’s nothing… I just almost got hit by a car and fell a bit.”

Pei Yanchen added casually from the side, “She ran into Meng Shuyan on the way here. They deliberately tried to hit her.”

Shang Chenyan’s gaze darkened instantly, cold and dangerous.

But in the next second, he turned back to Luisa, his voice gentle. “Sorry. I didn’t arrange things properly. Next time I’ll pick you up myself.”

“I’ll treat your wound.”

Luisa waved her hands quickly. “No need, it’s just a small scratch.”

But Shang Chenyan had already taken out the first-aid kit.

Luisa sat on the sofa, watching him take out iodine and ointment. She instinctively tried to withdraw her hand.

“I’ll do it myself…”

But Shang Chenyan shook his head softly. “Both hands are injured. It’s inconvenient. I’ll do it.”

He lowered his head and carefully disinfected her wound.

Luisa flinched the moment the cotton swab touched the broken skin.

“Does it hurt?” he asked gently.

“It doesn’t hurt,” she insisted through gritted teeth.

Pei Yanchen: “……”

He looked away, unable to watch.

After applying the ointment and placing a sterile dressing, Shang Chenyan’s movements were slow and meticulous, like he was handling a major business contract.

Luisa suddenly had a thought.

Does he… like me?

The idea made her pull her hand back abruptly. Shang Chenyan’s hand froze mid-air.

She awkwardly tucked her hand behind her.

Maybe she was overthinking. Maybe he was just being polite.

But his behavior made her uneasy.

“I’ll take Nian Nian upstairs first,” she said quickly.

After she left, Shang Chenyan’s expression darkened slightly as he looked at Pei Yanchen.

“What did you tell her?”

Pei Yanchen frowned. “I didn’t say anything. I even helped her.”

Shang Chenyan let out a cold laugh and immediately sent a message to his assistant, canceling all cooperation with the Meng family.

Pei Yanchen leaned back casually. “Oh right, she asked me if she looks like your wife. I said no.”

Shang Chenyan’s brows tightened.

He couldn’t tell her the truth yet.

If he did, she would probably run away immediately.

He didn’t know why she disappeared five years ago, nor why she suddenly reappeared unchanged—same appearance, same age. It didn’t make sense.

So at the very least, he needed to understand everything… before he could keep her by his side.

On the second floor.

Shang Nian sat on the carpet playing with dolls, then handed one beautifully dressed doll to Luisa, looking at her expectantly.

Luisa smiled. “Did Nian Nian style her hair?”

Shang Nian nodded.

They played for a while before Shang Nian suddenly ran over and handed her a phone.

Luisa opened it—and saw a photo of Shang Shu.

She was startled. “Why are you showing me this?”

Shang Nian tilted her head.

Then she began typing on her phone:

“Uncle, what do you like to eat?”

Shang Shu stared at the message for ten full minutes.

What???

His silent little cousin just texted him???

He quickly replied:

“Little cousin?”

“What made you ask that? Planning to invite me over? But first tell your dad not to send me to Africa.”

Then he added: “I like fish.”

Shang Nian passed it on.

Luisa mentally wrote it down.

Shang Nian continued asking:

“What color do you like?”

“Blue.”

“What do you like to do?”

Shang Shu replied without thinking:

“That one is not suitable for children~”

Shang Nian replied with a full stop.

Luisa: “Noted. All noted.”
