Nighttime in West Midtown, Manhattan.
The entirety of 121st Street had already been reduced to an absolute wasteland.
Whoosh…
The asphalt was completely shredded into a massive, spiderweb-like trench, from which murky water surged upward from busted underground mains.
Twisted, ruined fire hydrants sprayed columns of water thirty feet into the air, creating a muddy, chaotic rain curtain amidst the thick smoke of battle.
Dozens of cars were scattered around like the discarded toys of a giant beast.
Some were flattened into metallic pancakes, while others had been superheated and melted into twisted, abstract sculptures.
The storefront windows lining both sides of the avenue had completely shattered.
The sidewalks were paved in a thick layer of broken glass that sparkled like a sea of blood-red diamonds under the glow of the raging fires.
A six-story apartment complex had been sheared completely in half, its exposed steel rebar jutting out like the skeletal fingers of a dying man as chunks of concrete occasionally tumbled from the ruined edge.
The air was heavy and suffocating, thick with the smell of burning rubber, pulverized stone, and the sharp, dangerous stench of leaking natural gas.
With a terrifying, malicious grin, the Abomination bent his knees.
The ground instantly caved in beneath his weight, massive fault lines tearing dozens of meters down the street.
BOOM!!
He vaulted upward, his colossal frame launching toward the roof of a nearby skyscraper like a surface-to-air missile.
CRACK!
Just as he reached the absolute apex of his jump, a piercing streak of purple lightning tore through the night sky!
The crackling arrow struck the Abomination squarely in the face with pinpoint accuracy.
The volatile Electro energy instantly violently detonated.
“ROAR—!!”
The Abomination unleashed a howl of pain.
Completely losing his aerial balance, he plummeted from a hundred meters up, crashing heavily back down to the earth.
KRA-KOOM!!!
The concussive shockwave of his landing instantly flipped every vehicle within a hundred-meter radius.
A massive crater, over twenty meters across, was smashed into the asphalt, its jagged cracks radiating outward like a spiderweb.
Dozens of civilians who hadn’t managed to evacuate in time were blown back by the sheer force, crashing heavily into brick walls and streetlamps, rendered completely unconscious.
Amidst the billowing dust and raining rubble, the Abomination slowly pushed himself up.
A dark, smoking scorch mark covered the side of his face, but the damaged tissue was already regenerating at an impossible, visible rate.
“ROAR—!
Come out, you little bug!!”
The Abomination’s furious bellow literally made the air vibrate, the sheer sonic force shattering the remaining glass facades of the adjacent office buildings.
He reached down and casually hoisted an abandoned police cruiser with one hand, hurling it like a baseball straight toward a crowded intersection.
Just as the massive chunk of metal was about to crush a police officer desperately trying to evacuate civilians…
Swish!
Swish!
Swish!
A dozen arrows wrapped in blinding purple lightning shot out from multiple directions at once!
They intercepted the police cruiser mid-air, blowing it to pieces before the remaining arrows buried themselves directly into the Abomination’s joints, throat, and pressure points. This chapter is updated first at novelping . com.
Bzzzt!
Bzzzt!
Lethal, high-voltage purple currents instantly surged through the Abomination’s entire body, forcing his massive, granite-like muscles into uncontrollable spasms.
Countless arcs of electricity danced wildly across his olive-gray skin.
“Aaaargh!”
The Abomination was forced to his knees in agony, but the intense pain only served to fuel his uncontrollable rage.
He slammed his massive fists into the ground, unleashing a shockwave that ripped up the asphalt for fifty meters in every direction!
Rumble, rumble!!
Flying chunks of concrete shot out like deadly shrapnel, tearing through storefronts and shredding car doors.
“Found you!”
The Abomination suddenly whipped his head around, his glowing yellow, slit-like pupils locking onto the rooftop of a nearby building.
He bunched his massive legs, preparing to lunge—
KRA-KOOM!!
A colossal, barrel-thick bolt of purple lightning crashed down from the very heavens, striking him directly on the crown of his head.
The Abomination stumbled hard, a patch of his thick, bony skull charred completely black.
He shook his massive head, the fury in his eyes practically materializing into physical fire.
Catching sight of a massive gasoline tanker parked not too far away, the corners of his mouth stretched into a cruel, sadistic grin.
“Die!
All of you!!”
He charged the tanker, his massive hands effortlessly tearing into the metal chassis as he hoisted the colossal vehicle over his head.
Just as he prepared to hurl the ticking time bomb directly into the surrounding office buildings…
“By the decree of Verurteilung!”
A clear, commanding female voice echoed crisply across the night sky.
Oz expanded his massive, crackling wings to a width of nearly ten meters, hovering directly above the Abomination.
The raven’s eyes flared with blinding Electro energy as he flapped his wings with devastating force!
BOOM!!!!
A gigantic pillar of purple lightning, over five meters in diameter, blasted down from the sky, instantly engulfing both the Abomination and the gasoline tanker.
The hyper-volatile Electro energy violently reacted with the highly flammable gasoline.
An Overloaded reaction of apocalyptic proportions occurred.
The fiery explosion shot straight into the heavens, the devastating shockwave shattering every single pane of glass within a several-block radius.
KRA-KOOM-BOOM!!!
Within the blinding, incandescent light, lightning and fire merged into a terrifying vortex of pure destruction.
The intense, unnatural heat instantly melted the reinforced concrete street into a bubbling, magma-like slurry.
In a fraction of a second, every flammable object within a five-hundred-meter radius was completely vaporized, and the steel streetlamps drooped and melted like hot wax.
The scorching heatwave swept across several city blocks, shaking the area so violently that the massive electronic billboards in Times Square, miles away, flickered uncontrollably. Enjoying the story? Read on at novelping.com.
When the searing smoke and dust finally began to clear, the Abomination’s silhouette reemerged.
Vast swathes of his thick armor were charred completely black and peeling away.
Several of his massive bone spurs had been snapped clean off, but the sickening sound of his muscles shifting and rapidly healing filled the air.
If any ordinary carbon-based lifeform had suffered such devastating injuries, they would have died ten times over.
But for him, it only served as the ultimate catalyst for his rage.
“I’M GOING TO TEAR YOU TO PIECES!!” the Abomination roared, his vocal cords so scorched by the heat that his voice sounded even more raspy and terrifying.
His glowing eyes locked entirely onto Oz hovering in the sky.
However, just as he took a single step forward—
CRASH!!!
A colossal green figure, every bit as massive as the Abomination, slammed down from the sky like a falling meteor!
The ground instantly gave way, a powerful shockwave clearing away all the surrounding debris.
As the dust settled, the towering green giant slowly stood up.
He faced the Abomination, his massive fists tightly clenched, his eyes burning with an uncontrollable, world-shattering fury.
“Hulk…
Finally, a real challenge!”
The Abomination’s twisted grin grew even more manic.
He instantly forgot all about the giant raven in the sky, completely shifting his aggro as he charged headlong at the newly arrived challenger.
BAM!
The Hulk didn’t waste a single breath.
He stepped forward and threw a devastating right hook straight at the Abomination’s face.
The sheer kinetic force of the two monsters clashing generated a shockwave so powerful it flipped cars three blocks away.
High above, Oz circled lazily, his sharp raven eyes reflecting the apocalyptic brawl unfolding below.
Meanwhile, on the rooftop of a building several miles away, Fischl slowly retracted her Wind Glider.
She held a completely ordinary, plain-looking bow in her right hand, while arcs of purple lightning danced playfully across her left.
Her uncovered eye flashed with a brilliant, violet-gold light as she communicated with Oz through their elemental resonance.
“Oz!
Keep thy distance from that Beast of the End!
Else, even my Aegis of Lightning shall not suffice to shield thee from its wrath!”
“As you wish, mein Fräulein.”
The cold night wind whipped at Fischl’s blonde twin-tails.
She elegantly raised a hand to cover the lower half of her face, her voice dropping into a dramatic, theatrical whisper.
“This is merely the closing act of the prologue…
The true Apocalypsis of the Evernight has only just begun to turn its crimson pages…
Ahahaha!”
With immaculate grace, Fischl gently rose onto her tiptoes, pinched the edges of her Gothic skirt, and performed a flawless, aristocratic curtsy, her long hair shimmering with starlight under the New York sky.
