NOTE: Hello guys, I want to tell you that I will be using first-person POV for a while. Maybe for two more Chapters. Then we will switch to third-person POV. Okay, let’s get into it.
"Hello, dear. Welcome to the world. We finally made it," said my mother in this life. She was smiling at me with affectionate and tender eyes.
And I just kept staring at her, feeling new emotions I had never felt in my life.
Click.
The soft click of the door opening acted like a sudden gust of wind, scattering the confusing storm of feelings inside me. I had been drifting in an ocean of emotions I didn’t understand, but the noise yanked me back to the surface before I could make sense of any of it.
I tilted my head to the left and looked at the door.
A man around his mid-thirties with long white hair and purple eyes entered the room, walking toward us. He was a tall, handsome man with twin black horns on his head, pointed ears, and... a tail?
’Yes. I knew it. If I am not wrong, I was born as a dragon. Hahaha, subarashii!’ I cheered happily, knowing that I had been reborn in a fantasy world as a dragon.
"Hihihi." My mother saw my smile and laughed. "Look at him. Already happy seeing his father. He is so cute," she said, looking at my foolish, happy smile.
The man—my father in this life—reached my mother and gently kissed her forehead.
"Thank you. You have worked hard."
My mother smiled at him happily and said while bringing me closer, "Isn’t he cute? He inherited both our eyes and your hair."
My father finally looked at me with fatherly eyes and a warm smile.
"Yes. And he looks more like you. He is our son. Our little treasure."
Hearing their words, a strange sensation washed over me. Was I an intruder? Or a ghost occupying someone else’s flesh?
I was an orphan in my previous life. I never knew the love of parents. Still, I felt guilty. Did I take over this body? Was I truly reincarnated?
I shook those thoughts out of my head and decided to focus on living in the moment. I could worry about the future and the unknown later.
Then my mother’s expression suddenly changed into one of confusion and panic, as though she had remembered something important.
She looked at the old midwife and asked in a confused tone,
"Why did he not cry?"
My father also looked at the old lady with a confused expression, seemingly realizing that he hadn’t heard my baby cry before or now.
’Well, I’m not a child mentally, so I didn’t cry,’ I thought. But then I remembered something that always happened in situations like this.
The midwife looked at my mother, sighed in relief, and said,
"I was also confused, but I didn’t want to interrupt your moment with him. Looking at his expression earlier, he appears healthy. Let me check him, my lady."
My mother nodded, her expression relaxing a little after hearing the old lady’s explanation. She then carefully handed me to her.
The old lady took me from my mother’s hands and raised her right hand toward me.
’W-Wait. Don’t. Take me back. I know what she is about to do. Damn it.’
I screamed internally, hoping the old lady would not spank me.
I closed my eyes, waiting for the heavenly punishment to descend.
But then I felt an amazing sensation.
It was like warm and cool streams of energy were flowing into my body.
I slowly opened my eyes and saw a green light coming out of the old lady’s hand.
’Is that... magic? Healing magic? Wow. This is amazing. I feel alive.’
After some time, the old lady stopped using the green energy and looked at me.
"Hmm. I used [Healer’s Touch] to check his condition, but nothing is wrong with him. He is in good shape. Very healthy."
She looked toward my parents.
My mother relaxed and sighed in relief after hearing the old lady’s words.
"That is a relief. Then why is he not crying?" she asked, still confused.
The old lady looked back at me and smiled.
"Well, we can make him cry manually. Huhuhu."
When I heard those words, I immediately knew what was coming and closed my eyes, waiting for my heavenly punishment.
The old lady flipped me over, took me out of my blanket, and raised her hand.
Then she gave my butt a good slap.
Clap!
I felt a stinging pain in my butt and tried to hold it in, but I still didn’t have control over this infant body’s emotions.
Finally, I cried.
"UWAAAHHH! UWAAAHHH!"
Damn you, old hag.
This is embarrassing.
That hurt like hell.
"Oops, I think I used too much force. I am sorry, Young Master," said the old lady while chuckling.
My mother looked at me with a mixture of relief and motherly concern as she watched her child cry.
"Give him to me," she said.
The old lady handed me back to her.
Now my mother’s expression looked much better. The exhaustion from labor was mostly gone. The other nurses had already helped her using healing magic.
’I guess even if she is a dragon, going through labor is still difficult. But why did she give birth to me in a human form? Isn’t she a dragon?’
I was confused about the situation.
I could clearly see that she had the same features as the others—dragon horns and pointed ears—although I couldn’t see her tail.
Did I get reincarnated as another species?
My mother held me tenderly while looking at me.
"There, there, my baby. You will be fine. Is it time for his meal?" she asked the old lady.
"Yes, my lady. It is time. We will give you some space."
The old lady then looked at the nurses and signaled for them to leave.
Click.
After the old lady left, my mother brought me closer until I reached her chest.
She lowered her clothing, thus beginning one of the worst nightmares—or disadvantages—of being reborn as a child with intact memories.
...
After a while of embarrassing torture and heavenly nectar, a nurse came in. She cleaned me up, wrapped me in a warm blanket, and finally laid me down in a very spacious and beautiful bassinet near my mother’s bed.
My mother looked at me and said, "Sleep well, my baby."
I looked back at her with mixed emotions—guilt, happiness, and many others.
I quickly looked away, hoping she couldn’t somehow see the complicated emotions reflected in my eyes.
Finally, my eyelids felt heavy, and I drifted into sleep.
’Well, a new life, a new family, and a new world.’
’Here I come, everyone.’
